It actually wasn't a trap - he neatly snips out the intruder and rearranges his pieces in perfect formation over a period of a few turns, and then commencing the march forth again. Or at least that's what he intends to do, Marcus might interrupt that.

I'm not gonna reread all of it. That'd result in me doing what I did when Darnos got nosave mindraped and creating an elaborate plan to convert everyone in the school into a vampire before manipulating them into killing GWG's character and the vampire that turned her in the first place, but not before he became a vampire as well, resulting in him holding literally everyone in his thrall.
I had sketchbooks dedicated to that shit.
