DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: My first Roc.
« on: July 14, 2012, 07:15:15 pm »
Rocs are pretty easy kills with a decent military. Try to get it into an enclosed area and be sure to send in your military all at once rather than 1 by 1. They could also be captured with a cage trap and tamed but I hear they can be easily killed. Just kill them for the over 600 meat you get and make a masterpiece roast out of it worth the whole world economy

As long as you dont get an anouncment that a child was kidnapped. Whether they did or not though, I would try brutally murdering them anyways

15th of Opal

Mestthos our bone carver finally ran out of bones for her workshop. She had been carving bone bolts as an easy source of ammunition for our hunters. Corai tells me we have 280 bolts stored away. That should last at least until our hunters come back

22nd of Opal

Odd wheather today. First there was a snow storm. Now its raining OVER the snow storm

27th of Opal

The ice melted away and the brook is flowing again. Hilariously, a cow was standing over a pool as it melted and fell inside. He didnt drown, but it was still some form of entertainment as this winter has been pretty quiet

8th of Obsidian

The fort seemed awfully deserted today. I checked the bedrooms and workshops but didnt see anybody. Eventually I found the dwarves partying in the dining hall. Apparently Straw was holding a giant feast at a granite table. All the cool kats were there, aussieevil, Corai, Splint, even Chime. I wonder why I wasnt invited? I think it had something to do with me making fun of Straw's tattered lion shoe the other day

13th of Obsidian

The hunters returned today hauling giant thrip carcasses. It had one of the most horrid smells, I swear I saw a donkey vomit because of it

15th of Obsidian

The hospital was finally completed. I must admit, we really out did ourselves this time! Masterpiece beds? Gold Chains? Golden Statues? We have it all! No dwarf will ever grow unhappy being amputated in there!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now all we need is a dwarf with some medical experience...

22nd of Obsidian

A thief was spotted trying to get away from the snow storm

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A hauler spotted the kobold and drove him off. Cant help but feel pity for the creature, having to sleep in the cold n' all

Spring has arrived and with that my duties of overseer are over. I will be resigning my responsibilities to the next overseer(whoever it is I just realized I didnt work on the military or on the defenses at all so I would start worrying about that)

Here are the numbers

The new bedrooms are complete, hopefully now the dwarves will stop pestering me about sleeping on the ground. Also, the child of a brewer has finally grown into a dwarf. Though we have a large labor force, one of the few things we dont have is a weaver. He has been assigned to restore our silk and yarn cloth supply

1st of Moonstone

Winter, and the miners finished mining our new cemetary. 12 coffins have been placed and are now ready to hold bodies though there is more than enough space if the time calls for it. South of that, a pet cemetary has also been added by popular demand(Actually it was just Muthkat worried about his cat).

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The hospital is also in the works. One day Steelbeard will have decent healthcare, I promise that!

19th of Moonstone

A member of the DaBoyz, Datan, gave birth to a girl recently. All I can say is that Im worried. I pray the baby doesnt get carried into battle to see war first-hand

26th of Moonstone

One of the smelters gave birth to a child. The fort can always use more children she tells me. Personally, I thought 31 was fine. Seriously though, these dwarves need to stop sporing on the first date

9th of Opal

My office has been flooding with complaints about our fisherdwarves. Ive been told that theyve gone crazy. Yesterday  I took a peek at the fishers. They were staring blankly at the frozen stream. At least I thought. I honestly dont know what to say:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Fishing in solid ice? Theyre persistent, Ill give em that much

I call the carpenter

22
so I made a slight misjudgment on my centrally located atom smasher... but the good news is my baron figured it out.

the path to the lever went directly under the 20+ z level shaft..... took a sock to the head...

Dropping socks 20 z-levels and crushing the skulls of 'accidentally' placed nobles? Thats about as creative as you can get  :P

10th of Timber

A group of monkeys have been terrorizing the fortress. Theyre just hanging out at the entrance, stalking our haulers. I think the dwarves might have some monkeyphobia because they refuse to go out there and do their job. Our newest edition to the fortress, a hunter named Erith, has been dispatched to rid us of the vermin. I hope he doesnt take long, we need to bring that wood inside.

12th of Timber

Praise Armok! The caravan has arrived, and with a large supply of meats and drink! Ive ordered all the bins full of stone crafts stored out back to be traded off. Corai let each dwarf handpick their food of choice, he tells me that merchants will be making a nice profit either way. I saw a child take a barrel of tick ichor to his room....Id rather not think about it.

18th of Timber

Steelbeard's two prized miners, Straw and aussieevil, confronted me today. Apparently the other two miners Sazir and Adil havent been helping with the mining at all since they arrived. Upon questioning they tell me they were never given a pick to mine with. That means, for over A YEAR they have been wasting our resources and watching the other dwarves carry furniture twice their size single-handedly to and fro. The two "miners" werent punished though. I know I wouldve done the same. They have been assigned to cut gems to increase our wealth

26th of Timber

"Shes did it!", Splint told me. "She finally did it!" Who is she? I asked. "My wife Shorast! All season long my wife obsessed over some crazy idea for a crown, said she'd go insane if it wasnt brought to life! She finished it today and its amazing!" I took a look at this crown, its a piece worthy for the head of any noble, even the king himself

Drunken Cave Ogre

Your time has come

Aha, thats one way to get my attention. Ill get to work on it tomorrow as I finish up another succession

25
hmmm... not to knock ya around or anything, DrunkenCaveOgre, but your updates seem a little... bare? could use some more description, words & such in there to flesh out the storyline. Otherwise we're left guessing.

Yeah sorry, I admit I am rushing this succesion a bit due to the lack of time recently. i plan on staying up tonight to finish my turn, will be sure to flesh out my update

26
Could I get a turn too? Also, I think decreasing the minimum requirement for invaders would add to the challenge

DF Suggestions / Re: Dragons Terrorizing Towns
« on: July 12, 2012, 10:25:36 pm »
This would probably kill all The humans that much quicker. If the dragon breathed fire once the entire town would be killed. Not that I don't want this.

This. I think before Toady could try this, he would need to flesh out dragons more. Right now, dragons are pretty generic. They need more variety. Probably, a town in the snow would be attacked by some ice dragon or a town in the desert is sacked by some sand burrowing wyvern

28
Is there a limit to the turn list? If not, may I have a turn?

24th of Limestone

The fortress is running low on meat, the butcher has been slaughtering animals all day. We can only hope that the food will last until the next caravan. In the meantime, because we are plentiful in gold and silver the blacksmith has started to create some fine metal statues to decorate our halls
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

16th of Sandstone

Migrants have arrived and food is still running low. We need that next caravan.

I was able to squeeze in a small update, Ill try and finish up tomorrow
