The clothing wears out WAY too fast within Dwarf Fortress....  it's like the stuff is made out of paper towels. 
Even 2000 years ago the clothing which was made would last several years even for people who did hard labor. 

The fast destruction of clothing in this game only adds boring micro-management instead of allowing the player to focus on more fun aspects.

I think lots of players have begun testing other games while waiting for the major update of Dwarf Fortress on Steam. 
The activity on the forums seems to be less active overall.

I'm curious about their behaviour overall. Individual bedrooms make for good hunting grounds, but if those are not avaiable, will they not attack anyone? Will they grow desperate for blood and attack in the open someone?
  I prefer to completely remove vampires from the game before world creation when playing fortress mode... otherwise you spend way too much time trying to solve vampire mysteries as compared to playing the more fun variables of the game.

Any type of warrior should not prioritize carrying a book as compared to carrying a weapon.   Hopefully this has been marked as a bug.

Something should exist by the game itself to equip visitors with weapons, hopefully it's added by the developers someday.

Any way to force a sword into the hand of this visiting Human swordsman ?
     * Forceequip  from dfhack  says it does not work on weapons.

I'm only 49 years old and reading the text in dwarf fortress is painful...  I'm sure it's the grey font against the black background being the problem. 
Wish there was an easy fix

I am now bored with trading, it's too easy to abuse and I no longer find it fun.

So, IDK. How do any of you handle this problem?
Here's some options to consider:
  1) Trying playing a game where your fort is within a haunted, terrifying or sinister biome...   where your new goal can be focusing on the safe arrival and safe exit of the merchants.
  2) You may want to consider adding a mod which adds new civilizations and new materials... this might help the trading event become more interesting.
  3) You could play the game without trading... just don't build the DEPOT building. This will definitely be more challenging.  No harm with ignoring something which has become boring.

Any ETA when it will be ready?  Dwarf Fortress Steam version with graphics has been reported as arriving before Christmas.

my personal "must haves" are:   (not sure which are possible, but listing them anyways)
1) Enemy invasions attacking with siege type units, examples:
 Juggernaut (targets walls unless enemy nearby) OR Giant Ram Animal (targets gates) OR Saboteurs (using stealth seeks to remove buildings)
2) Provide some random armor and weapons for Giants, Titans and Demons.  They are naked way too often.
3) Add traveling thieves which using stealth will take items, armor and corpses from the battlefield (will help players keep the map clean).

Is there a syndrome attached? Or is it just a disgusting ooze that gives negative thoughts?
It's been disgusting ooze that gives negative thoughts... my problem is every 5 minutes I see the flashing red notice of "It's raining Fetid Ooze".    It's the annoying equivalent of your vehicle constantly beeping the fasten your seat belt bell over and over.  Once a season I could accept, but once every 5 minutes is annoying.

Would be great fun watching enemies bring catapults to destroy our walls or bring battering rams to knock down our gates.

DF General Discussion / Endlessly raining Fetid ooze

Just started a new embark, but it's endlessly raining fetid ooze.
I tried using weather clear from dfhack... no luck.
I tried setting LNP setting as weather OFF... no luck.


It's very annoying and distracting to constantly see the red letters:  it's raining fetid ooze.


Any suggestions for getting this turned off ?

Does anyone know where to modify files in the game so the level 4 water tiles are treated the same as level 3 water tiles??
Unfortunately that's a hard coded value.

Can you verify that they can cross that spot when there's no water at all?
   Yes, as soon as I reduced the water level for only 3/7 water tiles the dwarves began crossing.  So I'm sure no water works as well.

yeah you need at least the occasional gap in the 4/7 tiles. you can train enough swimming to prevent drowning by repeatedly filling enclosed chambers with stationed dwarves. otherwise, building said pit of 3/7 and 4/7 water in the center of your main hallway will train them very quickly. recommend making it only two tiles wide.
I have the most recent version of the game and no mods.   Setup crossing area as 4x4 where 80% of the tiles were 3/7 and 20% were 4/7... and the dwarves never crossed.  As soon as I reduced the water level for only 3/7 water tiles the dwarves began crossing.
