Any way to force a sword into the hand of this visiting Human swordsman ?
     * Forceequip  from dfhack  says it does not work on weapons.


Any suggestions??

DF General Discussion / Endlessly raining Fetid ooze

Just started a new embark, but it's endlessly raining fetid ooze.
I tried using weather clear from dfhack... no luck.
I tried setting LNP setting as weather OFF... no luck.


It's very annoying and distracting to constantly see the red letters:  it's raining fetid ooze.


Any suggestions for getting this turned off ?

DF General Discussion / Dwarves not crossing my custom river - depth 4

I setup a custom river (depth 4 and 4 squares to cross) with a stockpile on the other side, but the dwarves are not trying to swim across.  There's a friendly stairway down and stairway up.   Would creating a special meeting room work?  Or will I be stuck having to trick them into swimming by using a retractable bridge ?

Wondering what to do with my bronze since my fort location ended up with lots of iron.

How do you use Bronze when you have lots of iron?

DF Gameplay Questions / How to save abannonded baby?

For some reason a new female settler arrived to join our fort and she dropped her baby as soon as she arrived onto the map.  The mother does not have any injuries, mental issues or jobs assigned yet she refuses to pickup her baby.  I setup a burrow and assigned the baby into the burrow... but the baby is not moving towards the burrow. 

Any ideas on how the baby can be saved??

Probably not possible.....  but is there a way for increasing the temperature on the map or my section of the map after embarking ?

If that's not possible where would I find the steps for moving lava under a river so it's running year round?

DF Gameplay Questions / Enemy civilizations and siege weapons ?

I haven't played the game for many years and was wondering if siege weapons were provided for enemy civilizations? 
Last I remember attacks from enemy civilizations were weak as the game progressed because the enemy civilizations did not have any way to bring down your walls.   Is this still the case or do enemy civilizations now have siege weapons?

I have noticed the animals and monsters don't eat easy dead food on the map which has not gone rotten.  This would help keep the maps clean as well and is realistic.

DF Gameplay Questions / Barrel to Meat Limit??

I have two monster kills which generated over 40 meat for one item.  They haven't been placed in the empty barrels or pots so I'm thinking this must be due to some limit which can be held by a barrel. I've searched the forums and dwarf wiki yet unable to locate this limitation anywhere.  I fear the meat will soon turn rotten... any advice?

DF Gameplay Questions / Battling Loneliness for dwarves

The biggest issue for unhappiness is loneliness when playing and I have the main dining room as a meeting hall, temple for praying and garden statue all near each other to help with socializing, yet no luck.  Has anyone found a method which works for handling these bad loneliness issues for dwarves?

DF Gameplay Questions / Managing FPS for Longterm Gameplay

To my surprise my FPS have started dropping on a 5x5 embark size map (now at 40 FPS).  I've opened two caverns and can see the magma ocean further down.  PyLNP has 110 population cap and 50 visitor cap with processor priority on HIGH. Any advice or settings for improving the FPS so it doesn't reach unplayable levels??

    My system details:
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6600K CPU @ 3.50GHz (4 CPUs)
16 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
Motherboard: Z170X-Gaming 6

DF Modding / Dungeon Master Unit for Improving Worlds

Is there a Mod which provides a Dungeon Master Unit which can move extremely fast, fly, invisible and perform all tasks(or as many as allowed)?   With this type of unit and DFHack I see the potential for improving worlds which can be played by other gamers.   Any other traits or abilities which can be added to the Dungeon Master Unit?

DF Gameplay Questions / Identifying and Handling of Spies

Two concerns for two possible spy visitors and not sure how to confirm if they are spies:
  First claims to be a legendary dwarf mercenary, but she spends all her time praying in the temple and has killed 7 dwarves during the last 100 years.  She has emerald eyes yet all the other dwarves in my fort I've viewed have rust eyes... so maybe emerald eyes are normal for legendary dwarves.  It's also suspicious all her kills are dwarves.
  Second claims to be an enchantress axedwarf yet she never even reached my fort... she's camping outside in a pond.  At first I thought she fell into the water so I raced to help her. I dug channels and stairways for her to climb out, but she just sits in the water. The water is slowly raising back to depth of 7... so I believe she will drown herself soon.  I dug channels and stairways for her to climb out, but she just sits in the water.  Her description only says she is tall, jutting chin and extremely skinny with arcane knowledge.
 FIRST QUESTION: Besides using legends... any other ways to verify if they're spies?

SECOND QUESTION: Is there a way to force them to reveal they are spies or do we just quietly kill them with traps?


                   * I wish we could assign a dwarf as a detective to handle all the mystery investigation of migrants and visitors.

DF Gameplay Questions / Rented Rooms for the Tavern

Is it best to provide a container and cabinet in the rented rooms for the tavern?   I don't want the visitors having bad thoughts or consider leaving because these were missing.  Also if they are not needed and/or used in the rented rooms I don't want to waste time and resources placing them down.    Any advice?
