DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Sparring oddness?

People reported their skills still raise, despite no combat reports. It could be a bug and probably has been reported by now.

Dwarves will only talk with each other if they're on the same tile, or possibly adjacent ones. I recommend having a small meeting hall to force those introverts to talk more.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Large Armor for Humans
« on: December 09, 2015, 06:04:38 pm »
After ordering for some piece of armor, click "d"etails on your forge workshop and you will see a large list of creatures you can build armor for. It will either designate the armor piece as small, blank, or large. Humans will get large armor. And any other creatures that wear large armor (sperm whale men) should be able to wear it too I think.

You can try emailing toadyone for the world seed.

No, it's not possible yet. In fact, the whole retiring and unretiring business is buggy with visitors in your fort.

Major Changes:
* CPR Labor added. Doctors can now attempt to resuscitate the recently dead citizens and save them at a very low chance.

December 10th, 2050
Bug Fixes:
* Doctors no longer attempt to resuscitate a headless corpse.

Version 1.13 is amazing, Toady finally made some performance fixes for the first time in decades! Worlds can generate 30 years of history in just 15 minutes! And the performance in fortress mode doubled from 10 FPS to 20!

(P.S. what's with all the space\21st century technology features? This is a medieval fantasy game)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Visitors hostile after unretiring
« on: December 08, 2015, 11:37:48 pm »
I've had the same thing, sort of. But it was my long term residents who were "hostile", but actually weren't attacking anything. The ones who were actually visiting were gone.

They also left my citizen's list and went back to the Other tab.

If you're able to get a dwarf completely naked; (I do not know how to force a dwarf to ditch clothes) you will be able to put all individual pieces of armor on. I can only get some parts on my dwarves unless they're already wearing a hood, cap, or a bunch of sweaters.
Does marking specific items in their inventory for dumping work? I've done that to fortress visitors when I want to take their stuff, but never tried it on residents.

It had no effect for me, dumpingor forbidding.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Dwarven Propaganda

Dwarves may only read if their personality desires it. They probably wouldn't want to read for fun if otherwise. It's an interesting thought that reading books may inspire dwarves to change their beliefs. In this case raising their belief of Hard Work being a good thing.

I would recommend finding a dwarf that likes to read books, bookmark him, and record his belief strengths. Then later on see if they change after a lot of reading.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: December 07, 2015, 09:58:05 pm »
I got a big pipeline built to feed a waterfall to the future tavern.  I built a floor grate into the tavern floor, but that leads to some 1/7 water around the falls, maybe I should get rid of it.  I plan on hitching a waterwheel to power the system, but I need to lever up the gear assembly first.

I've also notices the liason has never actually left.  He's still there in the meeting hall.  Its at least mid-winter and the trade caravan is long gone by now.

Also, gold goblets for everyone.

The liaison thing was a nice surprise for me. He was my first real visitor to my tavern and stayed, socialized and told stories before leaving.

DF General Discussion / Re: Was version .40 a bust ?
« on: December 07, 2015, 09:50:32 pm »
Not at all! Better dialogue, better emotions, multi-z level trees complete with changings of the season, harvestable tree fruit and much more outdoor plant-life detail and uses, climbing in dwarves and everything else, and a whole bunch of other stuff I am sure I am forgetting. Each DF version is a step forward, some of them can just be a little rough.

The two most memorable things out of .40 for me was
* New emotion system, sentients more or less properly fear combat, and tantrumming became less rare (a bit biased here as I never really had problems with that bit). I always wanted to test out how parents will react if I put all the children of the fortress in a spike pit and set one of the parents to level pulling repeatedly. Like if it would increase their discipline quite a bit or make them emotionally dead. That particular though came when I had a fortress of 30% children and a few of them were on murder sprees. Their fists were like iron apparently.
* Multi level trees
* Wood
* SO MUCH MORE WOOD
* Sparse tree biome? Psh, 150 logs easily within a month.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Loving the new version
« on: December 07, 2015, 09:30:00 pm »
I was really really really hoping for more sieges.  Honestly, they are such a big part of the fun of this game - was the "path" system really necessary?   I dont need *that* much realism :/

I've receive sieges fairly quickly in this version after I passed the requirements for them. Standard siege strength progression as normal. One squad of mixed goblin fighters for the first invasion. Next one was two squads. The third was a good army with cave dragons, elk birds, and whatever.

I'm really excited to get my library up and running. I would love to become a cradle of knowledge in my world with hundreds of books in a grand library. I haven't even had the chance to receive monster hunters yet for the caverns.

I'm not sure, but I believe petitioners require a meeting with the mayor. It could have been your mayor was too busy to talk with anyone.
