Do you ever feel bad about regularly eating God?
I'm not asking this to guilt-trip you. My great-grandmother was a nun; I'm asking largely because I can't take the sacraments simply because, well, I'm a vegetarian.
I'm not a vegetarian, firstly, so take this with a grain of salt.
I was on a Youth Ministry team this year, along with four other people - two men, two women. Both the women, and both I and another man temporarily, were vegetarians. That didn't stop us from consuming the sacraments. Technically, it's also cannibalism, but don't go spreading that around too much
How would communion be a problem with vegetarians at all? If you're a vegetarian for moral reasons, Jesus explicitly told people to eat his flesh and it's not causing him any harm to transform bread into some of it. If you're doing it for nutritional reasons or because you don't like meat, it's proven that the eucharist does not change to meat nutritionally. The transformation happens on a spiritual level.
I wonder what Catholics who can't eat bread are supposed to do. I guess the teaching is probably "God made you that way, he'll understand if you don't eat something you're allergic to."While I am not a scientist, I am reliably informed that cosmology today suggests there is more likely to be a Creator.
Please, inform the rest of us.
Does it matter if i get a bachelors in Psychology? It seems pieces of graduating paper are just to get past the first wave of Human resources hiring. "He's got a degree..okay next pile. When's my break?"
...yes, and no. What you're describing can and does happen, but there are a lot professions that just don't work that way. If you're going to be a doctor, you need an MD. "Any degree" won't help you. If you get into accounting, I think they pretty much expect your degree to be in accounting, even though there's actually no requirement to have a degree at all unless you're planning to be a CPA. For example, if you know quickbooks, you can conceivably get a job doing AP/AR with no degree at all.
The positions your'e talking about are the ones where HR has one position to fill and they get 100 applicants. the job doesn't need a degree, but half the applicants have one and half don't, so they toss the ones that don't to simplify the process. But that makes you one of 50 instead of one of 100. Is that worth four years of your life?
There are a lot of cases where a degree just doesn't matter. Look at vocational schools. If you try to get a job as a plumber or an electrician or something and say "Hi! I have a psychology degree!" they're going to laugh in your face. College just isn't the path to take to get hose kinds of jobs. Alternately, if you have an MCSE or a Cisco certificate, that would probably open a lot more doors for you than a computer science degree.
Then there are results driven positions where paper doesn't matter at all. If you're good at sales, nobody cares one tiny bit what pieces of paper you have. I used to sell cars for Toyota. My background at the time was computers. They asked me why I was even applying, since I had no sales experience. I told them I was tired of making less than six figures and wanted to be rich like all my friends. They put me in their sales training program and hired me on the spot.
So, this thing you're talking about having a degree getting you past HR, yes that does happen. And sometimes it doesn't. A degree will hold open some doors for you that might otherwise have been closed. But it's certainly no magic wand that will make things happen for you and it's not the only option. I know a woman with a law degree who's been chronically unemployed for as long as I've known her. I know a millionaire high school dropout. And yes, I also know people who knuckled down, spent 7-8 years in school getting pieces of paper and now they're making six figures.
But the degree is not magic, and it's not required to live a decent life. It's a valid option. Not the only option.QuoteWhen you say college is unrealistic with math (an i may be taking that out of context) does that include University also?
I'm not sure what I said that prompted that question. As you say, that might have been a context issue.QuoteThe kind of money i can move out and live on my own while still going to things like this: http://www.magiccitycomiccon.com/ Still vague i know but lol.
Heh. Comic con. I tried to go to the San Diego con last year but couldn't get tickets. Need to find somebody who's gone before so I can get it on the previous attendee early sale.
Your expectations are very low. Live on your own, have fun. Ok. That's, what...$30,000 a year? Florida is cheap, so 25k, maybe? You certainly don't need to be making six figures for what you want. Here's a thought: it sounds like you have a safe, comfortable nest. Living with parents (I assume), college is paid for, there's no reason to drop out and plenty of reasons not to.
But...I would advise you to investigate other options. For example, if somebody offered you a $12-$15/hr job right now, would you take it? If you could live the life you want right now, without spending a couple more years in school and hoping that the job market hasn't become worse in that time, would you?QuoteI really want a 10$-12$ paying job
I'll take that as a yes.
So why not look into it? For example, it's $188 to take the A+ certification test. That's an entry level computer desktop support certificate. No classes, no college required. Walk in, take the test. Now, I highly recommend that you don't just walk in. Download test materials. Take sample tests. Learn the material. That's something you can easily do in your spare time for free. And then once you have it, go apply for a couple jobs. Or alternately, Try a technical recruiting agency. At one time, TekSystems used to offer a deal where they'd put you through a six week course to prepare you for the A+ in exchange for signing a non-competition agreement, and once you passed the test they'd hire you. Deals like that might still exist.
Or if you don't want to do computers, maybe get a forklift certification. Entry level for a forklift operator is in the $10-$12/hr range, and once you have some experience, median pay is $33,000/yr. I mean, we're not talking lots of money here, but it's enough to do what you want. And you might be able to do it now without years more in college. And if you take night classes instead of day classes you probably don't even need to leave the safety net you have, while you're making money that might turn into a career able to give you the life you want,
Don't want to drive forklifts? Why not get a commercial driving license? AIPB bookking certification? Become a licensed tax preparer? Get a security guard card? Maybe become a licensed real estate sales agent and sell houses? No degree required. Only a 63 hour course. I took mine through a local real estate office. It was under $200.
There are so many options other than college.
Why not look into them?
I don't see what it matters if he committed robbery or not. The punishment for robbery is not to be shot and killed.
This is the kind of bullshit I hate. He was not shot and killed for robbing a store. He was shot and killed in self defense after charging the officer.
And you're sitting here telling us the reason it's ok he got shot and killed for a different incident is because he once committed a crime. Otherwise you wouldn't be saying shit about that store robbery. But do go on continuing to justify his shooting while acting like you're not.
I'm not pretending I'm not justifying his shooting - I'll come right out and say it, based on the evidence I've seen and heard, I believe the police officer was justified in shooting michael brown in self defense. The jury seems to have agreed with me
The robbery is not why he was shot, though. I don't, for example, think he should have been shot and killed if he had just complied with the officer. Arrested? yes. Shot? of course not.
Similarly, if he had never robbed the store at all (but had still assaulted the officer for some reason, then charged him when he realized escape was impossible) I still think the shooting would have been justified self defense.
So I'm not really completely sure what point you're trying to make. The robbery is (probably) the reason he assaulted the officer, which is the reason he was shot. Despite being separate incidents, they are very obviously related. The officer in question knew nothing about the robbery. He stopped Brown and his friend because they were black. He was doing what all racist cops do, giving shit to people for the color of their skin.
Not particularly unusual to shoot an unarmed black person either, tbh. This story got a lot of coverage, but this is constantly happening nationwide. This is 1 story among hundreds of thousands.
Incidentally, does anyone else find it interesting that 9 out of the 12 jurors on the grand jury were... white?
it's my understanding that he knew about the robbery (it had been broadcast over the radio), but didn't realize michael brown was the suspect at first. He realized it after a few moments, and reversed which is when the assault happened.
Was the original stop for them walking in the street racist? I don't know (and I suppose nobody but the officer really knows) but I have to say that yes, there probably was a racial element to it, and it's terrible unfortunate that such things happen, and that yes we should consider that when judging the events that followed.
As for the jury, no - the makeup of the jury corresponds with the racial makup of st. louis county (which is where the jury was drawn from). Unless you're suggesting blacks should get all black juries instead of properly proportioned juries or something like that?
Quick question: why do people consider the US law enforcement to be so bad? Last time, they accidentally killed one guy. One guy. Not one hundred guys, not one thousand guys, one. Guy. And that's it, really. Cannot that be relegated to just an unfortatunate accident? You have individual corrupt and/or incompetent police officers, sure, but why rage against the system when it's working mostly fine, unlike in so many other countries?
Well here's what the live news last night said
(And they gave a run down of what has been happening by from shooting to verdict)
Cop is helping some people out after their kid stopped breathing or something
A police report comes in on a robbery
The other cops lead but this one stays to make sure the EMS gets there
He then leaves in the direction of the recent update on the robbery
There is a description of the robber given out (his clothes and what he stole and that there may be one other possibly male person with him)
The cop is driving along and sees someone that matches the description
The asks them to stop (he also noticed that the one match g the description was holding the possibly stolen items)
Words were exchanged
The robber (Michael brown) aprouched the police car
Exchange of words and possibly insults
Brown begins to reach into the car and a struggle begins (supported by physical evidence as well as testimony from eye witnesses, these eye witnesses do include African American people)
Other officer tried to defend himself
He could not reach his pepper spray or cane without putting himself in more danger
He draws his gun and warns brown say that he will shoot him if he does not get back
Brown attempts to get the gun
A shot goes off (possibly the one that hit his hand)
(A couple more shots may have also possible gone off during the struggle)
Brown runs
(This is where eye witness gets iffy but the physical evidence supports some of the eye witness stories so this is what I remember the news saying)
The officer chased after him
Brown turned around (and possibly charged back after the officer)
He did not put his hands up (some eye witness reports even say that he was charging towards the officer or had his hands raised up in fists)
The officer began firing
Brown ran towards him (IIRC)
The final shots were fired (one grazing the top of his head and the last hitting his head directly)
The officer is later examined and evidence of physical injury is found (ie. being punched in the face)
Later riots and unrest begin
This continues and then begins to calm down into peaceful protests for a while
About 2 months pass
Verdict day is announced
Crowds form
Verdict is given
Crowds begin peacefully protesting
Then they start insulting and throwing things at the cops
The cops begin firing SMOKE pellets into the crowd to disputes the crowd
Shots fired (don't know who fired them but I was watching this live)
People begin leaving and now the dedicated mob is left (around this time is when the mob attempted to destroy a police car)
Armored vehicles and riot police are out
One protestor blocks their path with several supporters off to the side and many more down the road
The mob begins burning trash cans, one bicycle art thing, and a cop car
Tear gas and smoke pellets are being used now
The mob is being pushed back and they begin burning and looting in other areas
Riots and control of the streets go on all night
There are still protesters today, now nation wide
Just clarifying the ferguson thing for people that didn't get the live news feed last night
