General Discussion / Re: Sheb's European Politics Megathread

First off, SJW is extremely derogatory.
Sure it is, but I thought you associated yourself with the term at some point in the past. I must be mistaken on that I guess.
Second off, I'm not the one that said that.

OK, I'm just gonna say it, he said it's coming off as sexist- it might not to other people, but saying 'I'm insulted' doesn't argue any point whatsoever. It's little more than a whine. If you want him to stop saying that, prove and argue how it's not sexist instead of saying 'I've been insulted!'
well said, but I'm a she :D
You hold that opinion. Or at least, you agreed with someone about that opinion, which would be an odd thing to do if you didn't.

Third off, those things are not related like you think they are.
They are very much related. "Your rights end where my feelings begin" and so on.

Anyway, it was only a lighthearted comment on how your position conflicts with things you've said before. No need to get so het up about it.

Well being called an SJW is a surefire way to raise my hackles.

You might have an argument if you could lobby for men not to breast feed as well, I suppose.
Men's nipples secrete beer though. That's an actual medical reason not to feed your child that way.

puts hair on their chest and whatnot.

how about this? no kids or babies at restaurants AT ALL that aren't for children because they are disruptive, uncontrolled, and obnoxious most of the time.
I wasn't. I'd like to point out that this proposal shows a collectivist way of thinking...

My views on breastfeeding:
I feel uncomfortable around it - even if it's my own sister -, and so do many (!) people. It's irrational, but the discomfort is there. Nevertheless there's no reason to ban the practice. The ideal solution would be for nursing mothers not to breastfeed in public if reasonably possible, and for nobody to complain when they do, because nobody has a God-given right in either direction. Just have a degree of empathy for your fellow man human, regardless of which side you're on!
The same reasoning applies to running around naked in public. There's no reason to forbid me from waving my schlong every which way in Times Square, but it's rather rude since many people don't want to see it, at least in my experience so far.
Not everything should need to be regulated by laws.

I'm pretty sure collectivist is the go to phrase for everyone else on this forum for... everything.

Thinking kids are absolute monsters on average is not collectivist. Stop using that word every time you disagree with something I say. Christ. There's no way you are using it properly every time, either. Since it gets used in such a myriad of situations and whenever it feels convenient to the accuser.

I just did.

As for it coming off as a whine, perhaps it does- but it's a rare person who can stand being insulted.

Ah, well, suppose I'm still whining. But who doesn't, eh? :P

And smee, I know you're deep into the whole gender thing, but calling anyone who differs with you names is not the way forward. Sexist would be if I had said women absolutely have to do as I say, because of their gender- I didn't. I said that it's not a nice thing to make people see what they don't want to see. This applies to all circumstances, unless it needs to be done, and transcends gender.

Arg, I'm not even gonna bother reading the ninjas 'til after I post :/

There you go devaluing my opinion by assuming my focus on gender issues means I'm just accusing you of being sexist for no reason.

I don't think you fully understand how sexism works if that would be your example. A general desire to see women cover themselves up and isolate them for what makes them women, even if its just a desire you don't act on, is sexist.

You might have an argument if you could lobby for men not to breast feed as well, I suppose.

A 30-year old man w/a black eye just informee me that he was the healer from 'Joshua 2'.  I didnt ask himfor moreor mention I didnt know that particular scripture well, but he told me if I would share my weekly food budget with him he'd heal my wounds.  I also neglected to inform him of my healthy status; maybe he meant my mental traumas?

Anyway, after asking for $50,  some of my groceries, and then ciggarettes, I told him to piss off, and he  seemee offended that I thought people in poor neughborhoods at night might want to assault me.

did he look like he needed the food though? I might have been best to just give him some food so he gets to eat tonight, and skip the faith healing. (though that is terribly original in the approach)

Anything involving white wolf RPGs and games made off of them is stupid anyway.

I mean no offense or whatever, but the game you played is dumb, and you should feel bad for playing it.

no offense tho.

am i in bizarro world

Smeep, why or how did you bring feminism into play? That is not related directly and is just asking for some warm fire.

because that is where I see it most used. I was giving context for doxxing. Like, thinking back, those circumstances and someone doxxing racists were the only instances I recall.

Even if babies do eat bodily fluids, the sound and implications, which are much harder to avoid in an enclosed space, where you are consuming food, is just stomach turning.

No, it's not. Not objectively. And if it's not objective, you might as well ban consuming pork and beef in public in case a stray religious person with cultural objections finds it disgusting.

Don't make me argue this because the other person arguing it is coming off as terribly sexist, imo.

Listen, I don't care what views you have, but what I don't appreciate is being insulted, so kindly don't.

I wish people would stop narcing on every single thing they don't like in this thread.
Well, in this case, it's the thread's rules. It isn't intended to be a free-for-all.

Any big questions I missed while asleep?

yea but it was well over with, this is getting ridiculous.

Also, it is hard to ask questions when you have to worry about everyone you ask questions of complaining and getting you in trouble because they don't like your tone.

Currently, I have no idea how to phrase questions to not get in trouble, because different things will ruffle different peoples' feathers.

There needs to be a way we can actually know what questions are outright off limits, how many posts on a side issue is considered a derail, and apparently a lot of other ridiculously detailed issues because this all feels very arbitrary. I was okay with the moderation style early on, but when I can't even ask actual questions without the thread being locked and getting yelled at because someone complained... that's not conducive to any sort of discussion at all. A few people get to preach their values and I learn nada about the details I am interested in.

sorry, but wanting to shame women for their body is pretty sexist. We get shamed enough already for it.

edit: restaurants should not be for eating bodily fluids tho.
That's what babies eat, the way you're portraying this is very unfair.

Even if babies do eat bodily fluids, the sound and implications, which are much harder to avoid in an enclosed space, where you are consuming food, is just stomach turning.

Although, personally, I would prefer people didn't bring their kids to restaurants other than kid specific ones anyway. Because breastfeeding is just one of the myriad of issues that bother me, the more common ones are the kids running around and being a general nuisance, squealing, crying, screaming, throwing food.

Children should be neither seen NOR heard.

alcohol is not a bodily fluid, not sure on that line of thought. But I will firmly agree with the other proposed rules. Yes to all of those.

And yes, I am being ageist, don't remind me. Does it count if it is against kids? Because wouldn't they experience "kid privilege" I'm the one being oppressed for being in my 30s dammit.

Doxxing?

revealing personal info like phone, address, place of work, etc. Sometimes bank account and SS numbers also get slipped, though I don't think that is happening in the two instances mentioned here.

MRAs really like to do it to feminists that speak out, especially feminist gamers, then it usually does involve SS and bank account numbers. If a gamer male says the exact same thing, they literally will not dox him at all. They insult him, but never dox.

It's not really a very moral tactic because of the implication that those details could lead to potential risks for the person doxxed. Like death, or rape, or beatings. I don't actually approve of it, I'm just having a hard time feeling sympathy when it happens to rapists (Steubenville) and murderers (police.)
