DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Face Palm moments you had

Decided to try my first "Terrifying" embark. Found a good one I liked, glacier over an aquifer with a sliver of untamed wilds. Quickly selecting it, I selected my standard embark set, filled in the gaps, and went to strike the earth!

Surveying the land, I quickly remembered my standard embark set includes copper and trees, to make my own picks and axes, along with a dozen animals, and 75 barrels of various animal parts...

OH S....

That being said, my dwarves punched in the brains of the 5 zombies, dug in, made a decent fort, and kept the map clear of zombies with a small militia and a couple weapon traps. I just abandoned from boredom after 3 years :p

Seems to me like the game determines ahead of time the name of the artifacts for its history ahead of time, and uses em one at a time...

what's ptw mean??? :P

LOLOL, I've been silently wondering that myself, but felt like it was something I should know, felt stupid asking :p

Channel into the wall from beside an existing channel, it'll drop and your miner should have enough time to run away... Should being the operative word ;)

Remove the upramp from against the magma pipe in that channel should stop the minerals from digging it from the ramp, use the dug tile next to it. Should improve his odds.

Lotsa should going on in that post, lol.

Depends on the venom. Could Make him sick for a bit, could eat him from the inside out. Personally, I vote necrotizing rattler venom :p

Stalagtites are on the ceiling

Stalagmites are on the floor

Think about the T and the M

TTTTTTTTTTTT <- a bunch of Stalagtites on the cieling

MMMMMMMMM <- a bunch ofStalagmites on the floor

Nice. Never seen that before, pretty cool.

In school we always used the, "stalactites hold tightly to the ceiling, while stalagmites form mighty towers," one.

more like a giant cavern, I believe. Just full of infinitely spawning evil clowns... That last part was a bit redundant, wasn't it? :p

I would imagine for a first strike on an assault. I was actually thinking of breaching the circus with fortifications myself, and pumping it full of magma before sending warriors down. Was going to ask if they were magma proof, first, so this saved me the trouble:p

Interesting... So why isn't the water dropping off the map edge?

Also, I contaminated it with salt water near the edge, and it spread towards the ocean, but maybe that doesn't mean anything.

Also, I see what your saying, it's location is entirely coincidence, it's a source next to an ocean so it's looks like a delta...

World gen length seems to effect it most for me, as well. Large world, 1050 history, average 3 vamps per 100 dwarves. Largest world, 250 history, highest savagery, so far no vampires, forts up to 200. Current one at 100,still no vamps.

If your getting vamps as often as goblins... You're not getting many vamps :p previous world, previous fort, 100 goblins per year and climbing, started getting sieges, so it started climbing :p

Yup, danger rooms are fun :D

I never have anything to trade by the first caravan, always too busy. I always rob em blind. Just claim and then dump over the entire depot, and the dwarves go to work.

Had a little trouble with that method lately, they don't start stripping them until they start leaving, so I think toady may be trying to fix that :p

Up to 169 immigrants, needing to finish off the last block of bedrooms to accomodate them. So I order the manager to make 30 cabinets and 30 coffers.

I come back over later, start building... For some reason, not a single coffer.

Then I notice all the coffins in my stockpile.

I'm trying to imagine the dorf making these coffins...looking around...thinking... "Why in Armok's name is the manager having me crank out THIRTY coffins???  OOH! Break time! Off to the bottom of the rum barrel!!! ^,^"

LOLOL, I can just see the paranoia going around the fort, as everyone sees haulers carrying all these coffins to the stockpile, lolol.

WHY ARE THERE SO MANY COFFINS???? WHAT IS HE PLANNING??? lol

Coffer = Chest

Coffin = Coffin

The second one is for holding the dead. And I don't think production will stop just because the stockpile is full, if you have ordered the worker to work and materials are in reach.

Mason immigrant, who wants nothing more than to build coffins in peace...... If you please ;)
