DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Seeds don't fit?
« on: February 27, 2012, 09:53:25 am »
I'm pretty sure that even if you get the seed, you won't get the same world if you run worldgen on a different version of DF.

Would that still count for just a bugfix? The only reason its not save compatible is the deterioration bug for buildings; I imagine that wouldn't effect much...

If you go into advanced world gen, it should say... Somewhere... The last world genned seed numbers, so sayeth the wiki. Even if it's not identical because of the version change, it'll still be df, and worth playing ;)

A Gigantic sauropod arrived, with a huge belly. I should beware it's deadly dust.[/QUIOTE]Emphasis mine. Some dust attacks are treated like cave-in dust, blasting everything in range around. Since the creature is itself in range, it also blasts itself about. Fighting one of these with conventional military is going to be a disaster (all melee dwarves in range suffer cave-in effects every time), unless you can hit it from range with bolts/ballistae.

Such dusts can also be poisonous or necrosis-inducing, as in your lizard people.

Lol, took me a minute to find your post ;)

Moody dwarfs seem to have a preference for making boots. Maybe because they're leg-end-ary. :P

Booooo. Just, boo.

My first phone was nokia and it dropped on the floor repeatedly since I wasn't used to it on the cabinet next to my bed. It survived untill I fell into a river (long story). Even then, the phone still worked, but the battery didn't last more than an hour or so.

The ericsson I got after was destroyed by a raindrop. Literally. It seeped inside the casing and caused the thing to short circuit.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: 2 sieges in a row? Really?
« on: February 27, 2012, 05:36:11 am »
My current world seems filled with goblins from what I'm previously used to.  I unfortunately only have nickel on my map, and I play with a minimal trap policy and I refuse to shut myself in.  My 2nd siege was pretty big, but only 1 elite bowgoblin thankfully.  A passing werepig crashed the party and.took on the bowgoblin squad, delaying them long enough to spread out the attacks.  He didn't kill any of them, but they took forever shooting him.

My 3rd siege was brutal, it was 6-7 squads, 3 of them ranged and 3 elite bow goblins.  My crossbow heavy defense was pummeled and my paltry 8 unit axe squad only partially equipped in armor couldn't withstand the onslaught.  I will have to revise my building plans if I want to keep playing with the front doors always open.

Being very honest here: Please, please, PLEASE embark in a terrifying zombie biome and chronicle your open door policy there:p

I'll be rooting for you all the way :D

you mean for all of 5 minutes?

I just wanna see some one do it :p I mean succeed doing it. So far the normal m.o. is to wall off from the outside world. If you can somehow keep the surface clean, and manage your outside work, you might just could do it.

He seems to have a bit of experience with keeping the door open, so I'd say he has a better chance :p

So for 6 minutes :-P

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Most Impressive Combat Reports
« on: February 27, 2012, 05:19:13 am »
Lol, these are great.

I once had a tundra Titan appear, well, my baby cried at the same time, so I *thought* I paused it, and ran upstairs to check on her. I come back to seeing the titan corpse being hauled off.

Checking the reports, my 4 hunting dogs kept latching on firmly in sequence, one after the other, while my very green 3 Marksdwarves placed iron bolt after iron bolt into its lungs.

It eventually suffocated. Those guys should've gotten an automatic legendary for that, lol.

862
There's an attribute cap? So legendary + 5 to all military stats is out of the question... :p

K, quick q, you all keep saying military vs militia, are you simply meaning full time vs part time, or is there another option I'm not aware of here?

And Yaaaa... I tried using a military for an ambush... So far I've lost 60 dwarves to the tantrum spirals of their friends dying, lol... Hope it corrects soon... >.>

Brand new world.

But it's ok, the moment they attack my dwarves seem to know what to do...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You know, I was going to comment about the same thing.

I just noticed there's an engraving of a Dwarf on the crown.

It cannot be unseen.

...a nokia phone.

You mean one of those old, massive phones? Or is this perhaps some joke that I don't get?
Nokia phones are incredibly durable. Drop an iPhone on the floor, the iPhone cracks. Drop a Nokia phone on the floor, the floor cracks.

It's Chuck Norris' phone of choice.

i bite the inside of my cheek way to much to even think about trying it... on a related note a snake doesn't even need fangs to inject its venom to kill you, merely scratching you with its smaller teeth works just as well... the venom mixes with their saliva and gives them a nice poison covering... much like a spike trap and a contact poison in DF..

i don't believe a spike trap can actually inject poisons but then again i haven't used them that often.

They don't need them to inject, but they are they normal path the venom takes; they're like syringes.

And correct, venom is harmless to the digestion system, it will pass without issue. It's only if venom enters the bloodstream that it causes any problems.

Poison can be absorbed digestively, to make up a word:p

Maybe he's a necromancer. Saw a post about on of them moving in and eventually his ghost brought down the fortress in the facepalm forum :p

Ya... My weregilla corpse at the bottom of my waterfall becomes a ghostly weregilla monster every full moon, and it looks like a were-beast, not a ghost. If the melancholy ghost ever leaves her corpse, I'm afraid a transformation might lead to an actual rampage... :p

Heh. Trollfish. Naw. Anyway, I thought vermin fish (like shad) disappeared when water levels grow too low?

(shrug) Not for me, anyway. My dwarves came and collected them. I'da gotten a pick of that, too, if it hadn't been for the cats...

And ya, I like my waterfall, lol. None of those corpses or trolls actually made it into my fort... They all dodged the dogs stationed in the entrance and fell over the waterfall :-D

EDIT: Of course, if it was a different type of fish, last time, then vermin might disappear. All I know is, they were still there at 2/7, and it was at 1/7 my dwarves came at got em last time. Dang cat. Winter's almost over. I'll try again:p

PS, fort population is down from 120 to 79... I think i just might survive the tantrum, lol.

K, so here's where you can see 8 at once, all nice and pretty (all shad).
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And here's where you can see there's actually at least 11, due to my cats getting free and attacking the "vermin." 10 shad, 1 char.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I hate cats...
