DF Community Games & Stories / Re: DF2013: The Succession World?

Also, I wonder if when you exterminate a population of a site that didn't belong to you (let's say a hill dorf site or a dark fortress) - will it count as reclaimable later on?
I would love to see that happen.

You make a fort, train some legendary dorfs, give them some legendary stuff and whatnot, retire the fort, play adventure mode, hire the military, go conquer some sites, retire, reclaim, rinse, repeat.
I doubt you'll be able to reclaim it yourself, but it'll certainly be significantly easier for your dwarfciv to conquer.

You know what would also be awesome?
If other independent already-existing fortresses were seen by the game as "retired" and available to be reclaimed.

I am just trying to think of a way to let us live in the sites conquered by adventurers.
While I don't see that being TOO hard to code, I just am probably ignorant and can't seem to find those things hard.

Implementing high-level diplomacy system? Is hard, I'll admit.
But this shouldn't be extraordinary difficult, and would provide us with a much, MUCH better way of directly interacting with our worlds, which is what we're seeking after all.

You know what? That's brilliant.

Also, kinda offtopic, but how have you been enjoying my Island of All Evil world so far?
Did you get there?

(I personally am on the way there, but since I've decided to gen the world with only 2 years the island actually looks mirthful or serene or something and not evil, ironically.)

The closest we could get is retiring a fort, starting an adventurer and convincing the military in the fort to join you to go on a rampage.
Speaking of which, Toady - do the non-dwarven sites count as reclaimable? So that we could just go on a raiding party to gain control of a dark fortress or the like? Also the dwarven, but non-player-controlled-BEFORE sites?

I love when we achieve a good agreement.
Bonus point if I have been involved.

That could potentially lead to world domination at some point.

Boy I want this release so badly...

Let's just play the game pure vanilla.
If one wants to fiddle around with mods, you can always just duplicate the given world and do what you want with it.
THIS.

Just do this, then you can tell everyone about whatever it was that you did, and we can all have a good laugh like we should, and get back to the game at hand without ruining it for everyone.
And if it's funny enough someone could pick it up and make it into a spinoff world.

Alternate universes, eh?
Me gusta.

DF General Discussion / Re: The most beautiful aspect of DF
« on: March 19, 2013, 09:23:05 am »
So many rainbowdashes. No love for applejack, I see. *sniff

intopic - Doesn't beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder? I think DF is magnificent in many facets, like a jewel cut into dilapidated perfection. For me it is this prism of different specters that sum it up that truly lured me in, for tales need diversity to flourish.

Don't you worry.
When possible I use this avatar, but if not, I have a different, should this one be too big or something...

MLP/HFS-stuff aside...

OT: The fact that we can have much more living worlds with fort retirement and other sites, this will be just make the game all the better.
Assuming Toady releases the new version soon...

Whenever somebody from the "outside" brings up Dwarf Fortress, Matrix source code is mentioned EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Not that's a bad thing or anything, but it genuinely happens at every opportunity.

DF Modding / Re: [HELP?] Could fly before, now can't

Well, that's pretty shitty, since it severely slows down my mountain travel. D:
I would love to see the "roof" raised to a higher level, since apparently birds and the like seem to ignore them completely.

And giant robotic dragons? An unnecessary detail. :P

>Unnecessary detail
>Dwarf Fortress.

Excuse me?
FYI, I'm NOT to be associated with 4chan/9gag/similar entity.

They could've been destroyed or something, maybe?
I know that when a dragonfire touches something, there's a high chance it will just be incinerated 100%, but here...

Maybe they fell into a chasm?

DF Modding / [HELP?] Could fly before, now can't
« on: March 18, 2013, 03:28:08 pm »
Alright, so I've decided to do a little bit of wandering around and gave my humans wings + [FLIER] tag.
At first it kind of worked, I could fly (although only up to a certain height, unless I found a higher vantage point of sorts), but now I can't - that said, when carefully moving off edges it does say my character is flying - he doesn't fall down, but I can't move in that state, only via careful moving.

What do?
I want to explore my world in a more epic way, but I apparently can't for some ungodly reason within like 30 seconds.

EDIT: Oddly, now I can, and could fly up even higher than before.
What, is flying dependent on wind or something? Does DF push it that far?

EDIT2: Also, sometimes when I'm high up in the air (or not that high, sometimes), I can see those pitch black solid impassable walls of God-knows-what that block movement from below and from the sides - could it be what was limiting me in one of the earlier areas?
On a side note, strangling an owl mid-air that falls down and bleeds to death is truly an epic kill.

Also, we need giant robotic dragons and the like.
I really need to get around making this mod already...

"Whiplash" - I'm not sure, but isn't "lash" the same item as "whip", just under other name?

I genuinely thought that was a Pokemon name for a second...
It was not.

My memory of that franchise was screwed when I quit it after B/W international releases...

OT: A necromancer tower called Pinkbutton - even has an associated essay "Can Pinkbutton Save The World?". (which apparently is an 87-pages-long guide)
Wish it was Redbutton, but meh...

And the author - dwarf necromancer - is called Stakud Stakegorged. :/

EDIT: Also, sites that are named The Just Teeth, Gravelboots and Chaosdress.
...I guess.
