DF Modding / Is there any way to remove giant animals and animal men?

I remember axes being best for invaders, because they can knock off limbs, while spears are best for large opponents, due to being able to pierce organs better. Swords are 50/50 of those two. Hammers can't really kill on their own, but a shock squad of heavily armoured hammerdwarves can cripple the shit out of an army for your others to clean up. Maces are lesser versions of hammers, don't bother. Crossbows are pretty broken imo. I usually have a squad of speardwarves, one with axes and one with xbows.

Both milking and cheese making give strength, endurance, agility, and kinesthetic sense. (and some useless attributes.)
Start up yo' cheese industry.

Vanilla is too easy, you purist simpleton.

Indeed.  After a couple of years here at bay 12 evil biomes are just about all that remains as a serious challenge.  Sure you can always set yourself deliberate handicaps like item/skill-less embarks but the truth is that there are a series of formula you can follow to overcome any of these challenges with little thought.   New versions bring new features, but they are only a challenge until you beat them a couple of times and add the tactics to your repertoire.

Evil is fun 'cos its evil.  Its also the only time I crumble forts anymore, I wouldnt wanna miss out on that.  Raising evil zones are the single greatest challenge i've ever faced in DF. (no qualifications, I have an easier time with HFS than raising biomes)  And theres no cookiecutter tactic to handle it (beyond dig fast, wall faster and turtle for life)

Now THAT is fun people.

Without these sinkholes of dispair I would never play vanilla, its a rare enough occurance as it is.  I want more Fun, and only losing is truly Fun.

This thread just god derailed so hard by these two, they rerailed.

My god.

Remember the whole, "they have no picks which is why they don't mine through the candy" thing? That's why.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: barrels of "liquid"
« on: June 30, 2012, 09:08:12 am »
I vaguely recall that it was sea lampreys, not giant slugs. Could be both. I think it was something to do with sea lampreys extracting something from prey, and any civ with sea lampreys tamed had that liquid.

E:"If the sea lamprey's SPECIALATTACK_SUCK_BLOOD tag is removed, I no longer have been getting the generic 'liquid' on the embark screens (playing as humans for testing). I tested on the same gen seeds throughout multiple trials."

"Also requires the removal of LEECHMAN's SPECIALATTACK_SUCK_BLOOD tag (I had previously removed them from my game for testing and didn't realize it)."

It's the SUCK_BLOOD tag.

I'd like to mention, from personal experience, THROW ranged weapons are annoying. I'd always embark with a ranged soldier and a woodcrafter, y'see, and having them chuck spears/shoot with a bow at birds could lead to legendary by the first summer. However, even when legendary, throwing is not a military skill. Which means they stay as recruits. Which means they get negative thoughts about draft and long patrol. I recently lost a fort because my two legendary throwers were tantruming during a necro ambush.

Another thing: When people tantrum, they throw things. I had a legendary thrower tantrum in my dining room.

With a quiver full of spears. There were no survivors.

I would assume dual wielding axes, and punching the living fuck out of everything, respectively.

Holy fuck this fortress is in a state of total fucking disarray, yet they locked their mayor in a fucking cell! Not even a comfy cell. A fucking 2x3 shithole. They think I'm depressed? No shit I am! They didn't even leave me a peasant or anything!

Some asshole took my spot as mayor! I swear, I'll kill that guy.
Going through our job roster, I see a bee keeper.

Yes. A fucking bee keeper.

Sorry to burst your bee-fueled boner but we don't need, or HAVE bees here. What we DO need, is a fucking fix to these ghosts. This place is as miserable as a fucking graveyard, and not just because it is a vampire jail. Have fun being a mason, mister aussieevil.

I also got a messenger to tell our animal dissector that he is now a mason.
Sick bastard, and thats coming from a vampire.

2 Fish cleaners? Fuck you. The lesser of the two is now a mason.

Another joins me in the depths of insanity.

I just noticed we have like 50 water wheels.

Hooked up to FUCKING NOTHING.

we have like

50 injured dogs running around. We need a vet or something.

How droll.

Oh how I miss you, {dwarven beer}.

This was a productive month.

So what if you remove ALL sword weapons, even bows and blowguns? Surely there will be nothing there, leaving only husks versus demons for all eternity. Then, when you get there, the whole thing is blood. The whole fortress.

Murdering allies:required.

Oh the fun we could have.
