DF General Discussion / Re: Will this influence adventurer skillz?

And well, just because it evolved together doesn't mean that banging rocks together makes you a decent negotiator.

Banging rocks together to make sharp rocks for throwing makes you an excellent negotiator.

Wacky idea: make it rain flour in good deserts. It doesn't rain in deserts very often, of course, but when it does...manna from heaven!

Toady works on whatever feature has currently caught his fancy--that's why things go into such loving detail, and how he is able to sustain the development process. If he wanted to pay other people to develop the game for him, I'm sure he would've proposed that by now, it's not like there's a shortage of people who would be willing to pay if shorter development time could be guaranteed.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Which wounds heal?
« on: September 02, 2013, 10:23:04 am »
If I edit the raws to make them heal, will that apply to my current game?

Edit: Also, an unrelated question. How do I close a door? I've inadvertently opened the door to a necromancer's tower, and all the undead are escaping.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Which wounds heal?
« on: September 02, 2013, 08:39:10 am »
A giant tiger just tore the cartilage in my nose, and it hasn't healed after fast-travel, like most wounds do. Will it ever heal? And what about other wounds, e.g.:
Shattered bones
Torn muscles
Torn ligaments
Torn tendons
Bruised internal organs
Bruised skull

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Deities?
« on: September 02, 2013, 07:24:12 am »
Yeah, so I climbed this tower and when I reached the top I saw this deity. Should I attack it? When I started a conversation with him it said: "Behold Mortal. I am Githu Knotdemon. I know why you have come." How the fuck does he know why I have come when I don't even know??

Wait, so his name is actually Knotdemon. The demon who is posing as a god needed a disguise, and he thought up Knotdemon? "Hi, I'm Githu Knotdemon. Yup, that's me, totally not a demon."

Demons pose as existing gods. So Knotdemon is the god's name.

So the god "Knotdemon" is a demon? That's ironic. (I think.)

A more sensible system, I think, would remove dying from bleeding out or suffocating. Instead, each organ would require oxygen to function, with oxygen being entering the body through the lungs or skin (depending on the creature) and being transported through the blood. An internal blood pressure value would simulate the rate of oxygen transport. Wounds reduce blood pressure and a loss of heart function stops it completely. A lack of oxygenation of a body part causes its paralysis, with no oxygenation of the brain causing unconsciousness quickly and death soon after. Low levels of oxygenation causes impaired function. Long-term low-level of oxygenation in a body part of a living being causes necrosis.

It sounds a bit complex, but it actually simplifies things--the whole combat system revolves around destroying the brain, and every aspect of combat becomes a different approach to doing so.

I think you may also want to set [ETHIC:MAKE_TROPHY_SAPIENT:ACCEPTABLE].

FATAL's combat system is probably the closest thing, and... yeah, that should give you an indication.

No...no, we're not comparing that game to Dwarf Fortress. That comparison has been thoroughly mind-bleached.

DF Suggestions / Re: Bandit Mode
« on: August 29, 2013, 02:03:22 pm »
Wait, why can't you be the bandit commander? I want to lead a gang of bad dudes, raiding from town to town. Sometimes, I'd don a disguise and go into the next town we'll hit in advance. I'd be all friendly with the townsfolk and I'd ask around about if they know Urist McBadDude and they'd tell me of stories they heard. "Nobody survived from that raid, I hear," the fisherman would tell me while we share his wine.

If nobody survived, then where do the stories come from? ;p

How do I go about getting a safe water supply without a river, and without digging into caverns? Is bucket brigading ponds my only choice?

If you have a lake or ocean, drain that into a cistern. (Make sure you can shut off the flow or refresh the cistern.) Use pumps to desalinate salt water if necessary. Alternatively, make use of an aquifer. If you don't have any of those, then your question is basically "how do I get a water supply without any water", which is a problem for the ages.

No, I wouldn't call that an exploit. Building a glass dome over the world to protect yourself from the rain sounds very dwarflike.

Off topic,
I like that boom for the boom god quote thing.
My freinds call that disease (aspergers) they call it Ass burgers.

I know it's thoroughly off-topic, but autism isn't a disease.

Clouds already exist, at least in adventure mode.
