DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Artifact Gold Helmet
« on: August 26, 2013, 10:35:47 am »
Gold is very soft and very dense, so it'll weigh your warriors down while offering comparatively little protection. I'd say, reserve it for ceremonial use!

No, they have lower body buttons.

Why do elves find torturing animals appalling, but torturing someone as an example acceptable?

My adventurer is clearly the worst wrestler ever:

Apparently, I threw a bowman into myself, shattering my own arm in the process. And of course things went south from there quite quickly.

I think it would be nice if incest was handled in the raws. Something like this to represent your average modern human:
[ETHIC:INCEST_CLOSE:APPALLING]
[ETHIC:INCEST_DISTANT:MISGUIDED]

(INCEST_DISTANT being cousins and whatnot, with INCEST_CLOSE being siblings and half-siblings.)

Say, what stops relatives from marrying, anyway? I checked the ethics in the raws and it doesn't seem to be in there.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Wait a second, WTF is this !!!
« on: August 25, 2013, 04:21:09 pm »
My adventure dwarf's civilization is headed by a goblin. In the first 80 years of the civilization's existence, they were attacked every other year or so, lost, and had their king and general killed. (And on numerous occasions, flayed alive and having their skin on display in a public place.) This went on and on until a dwarf king and goblin general took on the job, and 24 years of solid asskicking of every civilization that had attacked them earlier proceeded. Then the goblin queen took over, and it was all downhill from there up to the present day...

It's still better than the priests who serve the god of lies.

"Embrace lies, my child, and go with Pestrat."
"Father, is Pestrat a lie?"
"Yes, that is why He is so virtuous."
"But doesn't that mean you aren't virtuous? Or were you lying?"
"No...I mean, yes. Maybe?"

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Bathhouse?
« on: August 24, 2013, 10:30:12 am »
I suggest that, instead of using a pool, or in addition to a pool, you make use of a mist generator. The mist gives dwarves pleasant thoughts, and it actually obliterates dirt and blood rather than leaving a layer of sludge on the bottom of the pool. Put some magma or ever-lasting fire under your pool and pretend that the mist is steam, like in a real bathhouse. :)

If you do build a pool, make sure you can drain it and supply fresh water to it.

Why do we even have bismuth bronze when nobody in the history of DF has ever found it even the slightest bit useful?

It's corrosion-resistant! Which isn't useful, at all.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: How do you destroy slabs and books?
« on: August 22, 2013, 06:09:37 pm »
Wait, so what if I found myself one of those fancy HFS structures? Could I go down there and toss them into the pits?
Ensure its destruction; leap into the pit while carrying it :P.

Now that would be a proper Greek tragedy! After killing all necromancers, I realize the only necromancer left to kill is myself. XD

Results are in. Atom smashing destroys the thing itself. It's still visible in the stocks menu, but you lose the "zoom" option, and it no longer physically exists.

Does the creator get an unhappy thought?

No, because the creator's head will have sailed off in an arc by then. :p Or that's the plan, anyway. I hope that book burning will be implemented eventually, but for now I'll stick to finding a nice volcano! If that fails, I'll just put them in a chest and dump it in the sea...I believe they got rid of one of the Rings of Power that way.

Edit: wait, so what if I found myself one of those fancy HFS structures? Could I go down there and toss them into the pits?

The volcano would be quite cinematic, but is there a simpler method for the books? Necromancers love to write a ton of those...I don't think I can just burn them in the campfire (though that ought to be a possible interaction!).

I find myself interested in hunting down every necromancer in the world, slaying them, and confiscating the slabs and books carrying their dark secrets so I can have them all to myself to rid the world of their evil. How would I go about destroying the items afterwards, though?

DF Suggestions / Re: Asexual Reproduction
« on: August 21, 2013, 03:05:40 pm »
I would love to see pregnancy as a forgotten beast syndrome!

Chestbusters, huh?

Well, I meant more in the sense that the victim would be impregnated as normal. You could cause mass pregnancy by tainting your water with forgotten beast blood!

I'm asexual. I have no kids, and no biological drive to have any. Ever.

I'm asexual, but I don't feel the need to pitch an HBO miniseries about it every time someone mentions sexuality! (I actually am interested in having kids, though.)
