DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / 180 giant mosquitoes

I'm playing my first 34.01 fortress and until recently everything's been going fine. A few days ago, though, 187 giant mosquitos entered the map and are taking the average FPS down from 100 to 50. Is this bug-like behaviour or business as usual?
