General Discussion / How to make a Rufus?
« on: July 14, 2016, 04:46:57 pm »
Hey all.

My boss wants me to create a Rufus and has a specific ISO but whenever I implant it into Rufus with his orders it fails to work.

I'm using all default and making it so that it can boot from USB and UEFI. No extra runs and everything is just default.

I want to say that I should switch over from FAT to NTFS but my boss told me not to keep on trying even though I know he'll be mad if I don't complete this by this weekend.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Life Advice / How to work?
« on: March 15, 2016, 05:58:59 pm »
I've had 5 jobs thus far. Two said jobs were in Wendy's and some other fast food joint that I was only lasted 3 days (hated feeling that I wasn't being taught and yelled at for said things.) another two jobs were in Marshalls and Khols were I felt I lasted much longer until the either the season hit or I had to leave because of the work week being only ONE day of work for only 4 hours.

My 5th and latest job that I still hold is in my college's IT department, who also handles the schools Media. The job is typical IT from what I understand typical IT to be: Troubleshoot issues, attempt to fix if you know whats wrong, if no idea Google, and sometimes we have to go set up for school events. It's by far much nicer than the last jobs I've had in terms of hours, enviroment (friendly co-workers), and It's much closer to my major then working in fast food or retail. Which is all nice but I keep screwing up in rediculous ways.

Today I felt I was having an excellent day. I got things done as far as time allowed me until I was asked to set up some laptops for an event. I set up the laptops but I didn't plug in the power, or lock them down, and just left some laptops without printers. This whole process was for 8 laptops and I only hit 6 or 7 and even they weren't correct. The entire thing was suppose to take 20 minuites according to my boss who was very disapointed. What's worse is that ive done the process before but I just don't remember how to do it and I've been feeling lately that the co-workers really do look down on me for my slowness. It's gone from 'cartpusher' to 'boys aren't dumb only cartpushers are dumb' to quote a saying today. Because of things like that, because I feel they just aren't respecting me as an IT worker I try to fix things solo without help and even that fails. Also ya I know I just said they're friendlier but hey it's IT people, they want shit done. Period. An they are good for help but..I just feel they're getting annoyed with helping me with every step of everything.

I remember getting help and thinking I had the issue under control with the laptops today but I just didn't. I don't know where I went wrong or how to do better next time despite having done this before.

I feel retarded and worthless because It just feels that the time until they say 'fuck it' and let me go is getting closer. I'm not in need of the job to survive thankfully but it's a great job to have lost considering what awaits me outside and the loss of such a nice resume piece. I don't want to lose this job despite the schedule (which is only 15 hours no big deal).

In a way, I've gone through life after high school with just a 'well it's just retail who cares really?' when I've been let go for the season or quit at fast food for it's..fast paced work enviroment. IDK how else to call it but I feel if this continues I'm either going to face homelessness or suacide. An knowing myself I'd rather pick death than live in a box. The fact that i'm 21 and stressing this also dosen't help nor seeing my father divorce an going to live in an apartment either...

Any advice on how to work better and keep my job? Or on how to win the respect of my peers that's not kissing up to them?

Other Games / Imperial Guard Stronghold
« on: September 26, 2015, 09:37:35 pm »
So i'm playing the sisters of battle and I took over the entire Karuva system..except the Imperial Stronghold. Are their any cheats I can use for getting free stuff or have an insta win?

I'm not really about fighting inch by inch while the AI just spawns random shit out of nowhere likes it's been doing...unless theirs something I'm not seeing. Thus far in the map I destroyed the Super artillery thingy in the middle but the Basilisks convoys continue to go strong. Again, super annoying level and I'm starting to think that the devs were like "Oh shit are AI sucks at skirmishing/open battles are super repetive. Lets make this stronghold hard as FUC Iron.

The year is 1000 C.E and humanity has united into one entity after years of separation via countries inside a multi-national union known as the United Nations. Today this is no more as we now refer to ourselves as the Great Union of Humanitarian Worlds or G.U.H.D. G.U.H.D has colonized many worlds outside the milky way system in the years after its founding by the United Nations in its ancient effort to colonize new worlds to help sustain itself. G.U.H.D is the largest parliament in existence with its many worlds sending two chairs or representatives which in turn picks the Great Prime Minister.

Humanity had also advanced culturally as race, religion, and nationality were dropped as marks of allegiance by humans as they instead chose to group themselves by political unions that in turn attempted to serve the ideology of humans from different worlds. While at times this process would get complicated fighting never broke out as humans simply forgot what violence even was and in time decided to simply discuss everything.

In essence a utopia was made until the Xeno threat appeared. They attacked multiple worlds in an effort to expand their control of space for reason unknown and were in time referred as the Strainz. Because of Interstellar disarmament the G.U.H.D lost many worlds to the Strainz and it took a decade to once again raise a Military known as the "Cosmic Army of Humanity" or CAH. Despite CAH's best efforts however victories were minor and losses were great as the Strainz simply advanced slowly dragged down by their desire to colonize each and every single world after conquest by building up massive a massive city that encompassed many planets.

Faced with imminent destruction the Great Prime Minister Allen Patton was elected to turn the war around quickly as humanity started to panic in every corner of the galaxy. His answer was the creation of the Coordinators. Coordinators are in essence genetically modified humans modified specifically to combat the Strainz threat. The Project was kept secret to avoid the agreed upon laws prohibiting Human Genome Projects for war and Directed by Pharmaceutical Entrepreneur Godfrey Von Gvane. Gvane's creations were all given better reflexes, vision, speed, and higher rates of pain tolerance to help kick start the project. The army in turn provided 'protection' and 'advice' to the Doctor and his group to keep them fixated on creating the best soldiers possible. Which meant that they created 3 unique type of specialized genome soldiers.

First there were the Assassination units or "Ghosts". There name came there blending in to any environment using their special chameleon skins to take out targets.

Second were the Support specialists or "Supras". Wherever fighting broke out it was the Supras that came to help the normal soldiers fend of the aggressive Stienz assaults. There name comes from the nickname a possibly illeterate soldier said when he saw them fighting. Unbeknownst to the soldiers these are not normal men and women fighting on their side. Because of this Supras have a limited amount of operation time before they are pulled out before suspicion rises too high and hard questions are asked. Supras super human strength and dexterity is key to their domination on the field.

Finally the Sabetour specialists or "Lupins". Lupins take thier name from the fictional ancient character Theif Lupin. Unlike how the original these Saboteurs are thrusted during naval engagements to assault enemy ships and destroy them from within using explosives or de-manning the ship. They have by far the lowest survival rating.

You are one of these Genome Soldiers who was a gifted leader in your military career. An here you are in a black project sponsored by the Government and ran by the COH and Dr. Gvane's Research teams. In time as you succeed your enhancements will multiply and one day you will be shown in all of your magnificence to the world, or at least Dr. Gvane wants. Currently the project is running on a skeletal group of support but once success starts coming in the project can be publicized to allow it to work for the greater good of mankind.

Once there was the Greater Kingdom of Bostoma led by the ancient Cesar fammily who's rule was known as absolute for almost a millenia. The Kingdom they ruled spanned an entire continent and encompassed many people and even religious sects. While each ruler was different in their policies they all universally tolerated and integrated the vast amounts of people with different measures of success. The amount of work and sacrifice by these rulers is told again and again through stories and tales an even in the Universities throughout the country.

This changed 20 years ago when your father King Bohemond "The Proud" was killed and your Mother Queen Elizabeth found her skills as Regent lacking when war was declared by the Kingdom of Derastia. The invasion was a surprise attack you were told and destroyed coastal fortifications and messengers were killed by assasins of Derastian employ. When your mother heard about this she quickly sent for mustering of the armies but her skills as a General were none-existent and the Derastians were too quick to be stopped by the amount of time it took for even a meagre force to assemble properly.

The devastation caused by the Derastian Kingdom was great as many city centres saw their mayors hanged, coffers looted, fields stripped bare, and temples of all kinds burned. The countries infrastructure did not recover but the worst was yet to come. In order to save what was left of the Kingdom and preserve the country she sent you and your siblings to the Island Republic of Montague where her cousin Governor Mecas has watched over you all. Your mother even went so far as to marry Prince Alexius and turn over what was left of the country in order to stop the pillaging from spreading any further. This left a very awkward Goverment being formed as native Bostaman's and other groups found the invaders repulsive but unable to object to the status quo. Internationally the King of Derastia Godfrey II has declared a "Dual Monarchy" between the two states albeit with Derastia being smaller yet more prosporous now than Bostoma.

As the rightful hier to the throne and it's future conqueror how did you grow up? An how did your siblings grow up?

A) I grew loving books and eventaully I found a tutor to teach me about the world.
B) I grew up learning basic magic on my own for meditation and for doing simple things. Eventually the court mage found me interesting for my young talent and he tutored me ever since.
C) I went through the High Military Academy of Montague where I met future Lt. General Ivan Osva. Ivan and I were cadets but he stayed around the palace after his appoint through merit. People spoke that his skill leading was great and wondered when his first battle would be. Quitely though we acknowledged that it would be at my direction he would fight when the time came.
D) The Governor took an Intense Interest in me. He trained me in everything from court manners to diplomacy, scrying magic (defensive), and even had a swordsmen tutor me in how to fight.

My siblings grew up..

A) Carefree. While they want to return our country they don't have the courage needed to fight. They did spend their time playing with nobles and later talking to dignitaries.
B) They became pretty smart. They formed book clubs, poetry circles, and became very well rounded cultured individuals. My sister even ended up being able to help writing small plays for the dignataries under the Court Jester.
C) They were rough and all became addicted to taking back the throne by force. Some took a more strategic approach in learning the art of war while others focused more on being powerful warriors with bows and swords.
D) They were warded of to different minor Lords in the island and all came back differently each year we reunited. We all still love each other deeply and write often but our educational backgrounds are all different. It can be hard communicating what were doing or but we all find a way.

General Discussion / 9/11 thread
« on: September 11, 2015, 10:16:13 am »
As the title states this a 9/11 thread I decided to make. I haven't checked if there is one in the archives but I just wanted to quickly say to any veterans or survivors from New york or the war in Iraq: Thank you.

I recently saw a Sniper in my college's panel and how shook up he was and his stories of PTSD. I hope and pray for the best for him and anyone who lost anything at that time.

Every year I forget just how much hurt and emotion is still in the air after the dust settled. I mean simple math 2001 - 2015= 14 years ago. That's all I have to say and may everyone have a nice day.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Klauze III (Warhammer 40k suggestion game)
« on: August 29, 2015, 04:27:30 pm »
The Governor of the planet is handed a secret messege by a tech priest. Everone is overworked in the palace of the Governor and highly agitated. The Governor reads the following messege and..

--Imperial news network--

Ork Invasion has hit Klauze III. The Planet has held for a remarkable 2 month invasion against the invasion by a Orc Warlord named Deap Blak. Casualties are unknown due to ongoing conflict and danger. Estimates at 10,000 on the first month proved vastly understated and have not been updated or improved. Planetary PDF has announced that they are left with only 10% of original forces and relying heavily on militias, merceanaries, and Imperial Guard reinforcements. Imperial Guard regiments on the planet have been lost in the conflict due to loss of command, desertion, suacide of generals, and are throughly scattered with no communications to utilize.

More Imperial Guard Regiments have been sent and a request for help from a space marine chapter is being registered.

Signed,
Lazlo of division 4562 division of the Adeptus Ministorium

--End Messege--
...prays for help from the Emperor. Before he goes to sleep that night he thinks about what Space Marine chapter would help his crumbeling defenses repel the Orcs before the inquisition arrives for a final solution..

((Right then above is the story and below I imagine some warhammer 40k geeks enthusiasts like myself will post a chapter to come help this world. You can create your very own unique chapter or choose an already existing chapter such as the Blood Angels, Ultramarines, Space Wolves, etc.

Inside a spoiler you'll detail how many men your chapter has and if it follows the Codex Astartes. Each chapter will have 1000 men in total. Chapters will have 10 companies. Companies will have 100 men.

I would go on to say that the First company is to be considered your veteran company or terminator company, your tenth company to be a scout company, and for anything from 2-9 being assaults or whatnot. That said, if you create a space marine chapter that says screw those rules then you can create your internal organization differently.

The only thing you cannot deviate from is your 1000 man limit and the 1000 point rule. I'll allow some fudging if it's above only like 100 or so if it helps with authorizing your chapter. Other than that have fun guys i'll be back later today to pick a marine chapter.))

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the planet is a hive world, which for those that don't know is a big human farm for the imperial guard. Lots of people but ramapant corruption, crime, and at times herecy. That said there will be no daeminc elements in the game (unless I change my mind) and the focus will be you and the AI vs the Orks in a rng.

Life Advice / Programming course
« on: August 27, 2015, 04:41:16 pm »
So I am currently taking a programming course and it seems kinda fun, if frustrating at times. This is the first time I have ever programmed and I wanted to ask how hard do people find it?

Currently my Proffesor said a 67 slide powerpoint showing mostly things about how to write clean code and special symbol stuff. While again not hard I am paranoid about being left behind to the wolves and I wanted to ask if there are any C++ veterans out their that can give me a tip on how to remember so much information.

General Discussion / Programming books
« on: August 21, 2015, 08:34:14 pm »
Hi all I'm taking a C++ programming class in my school and the book that i'm being asked to buy is out of my price range (168 US dollars) and I wanted to ask if it would matter to get a lower edition of the same book.

I've seen edition 4 with as low as 4.55$ and I would rather not break the bank buying from my campus or online.

For those confused as to the qustion i'll relierate: If i were to get a lower edition of a programming book would it be any worse then the newest edition? C++ seems to be a very old language so I don't think know if there could be anything new in this book. I'd love to hear about how intro books to programming being the the same quality as each other but if not please share.

The class by the way is a Introductory course for  C++.

P.S When I grow up I think I want to be a teacher. Not because I like students or teaching but because writing these text books must be the same as being a best seller on the NY list 0.0

General Discussion / Godel Machines
« on: August 16, 2015, 01:49:54 pm »
I stumbled on this video a while back called "Humans need not apply" Link an later found a machine known as the Godel machine that is said to learn on it's self and even rewrite it's own code. The very idea that a computer can be made to be creative and solve it's own problems without making a new code or new machine entirely is very intriguing to me but I was hoping there were some professionals on here who could tell me more about how it works.

Also Could machines phase out human brain power to the point of unemploying millions of people? I find it hard to understand what would happen if so many people got laid off and needed new jobs (again) but couldn't because everything was already automated.

Life Advice / Educational Dillema
« on: June 28, 2015, 06:34:38 pm »
I am an American College Student who as recently decided to go into the computer field with an emphasis in IT (Information technlology). That said, I have been changing my mind from psychology to economics (I beleive that my old posts can still be found) to where I am now.

I currently have 31 credit hours and while most of them are for Gen. Education some were geared towards a degree in psychology. My school offers an IT associates but has a 63 credit hour requirement which means I may be short on Pell grants to reach my AA now that its much later in the game. My question is if I get my degree in psychology with computer science credits in their will I be able to get a bachelors in IT later at a university?

More specifically:

Can I go from an AA in one field to a Bachelors to another field if I meet said fields pre-reqs?

General Discussion / Where Can I read Warhammer 40k books?
« on: June 21, 2015, 10:12:32 pm »
Recently I've gotten the urge to read more in-depth fluff about War-hammer 40k. I know this sounds selfish and greedy but I have to ask if there are any old novels online that are free to read/download?

In a tavern somewhere...

"China was ruled by the Imperial familly of the Han for 20 years. While these years were short they were prosperous for many until the Eunachs plauged by corruption decided to take even more power. This led to many troubles and has culminated into what is being called the Yellow Turban Rebellion." explained a traveling monk to a small gathering of homeowners.

You are however are on the other side of the bar simply listeing along. Many could take advantage of the chaos that is going on now in the country and now may well be the perfect time to begin your journey so that you may join the annals of history.

What is your name?

Gender: M/F?

Stats go as follows:

War - 0-99
Intelligence - 0-99
Politics 0-99
Charisma 0-99

You have 350 points to spend on each one. War is for fighting duels and leading troops into combat. Intelligence is for issuing out and learning new tactics and strategies. Politics helps you build things and raise troops. An Charisma is how well you can persuade people (Imagine war but with debating as the base stat).
