Life Advice / Life stories and results
« on: June 16, 2015, 12:20:45 pm »
- deleted -

I think I know what i'm going to do next. First i'll say it won't be anything violent since I feel I still have quite a long (and hopefully) enjoyable life ahead of me. Although at 20 I do hope I can find happiness in my life unlike others.

What i'm looking for is more friends that are not home bodies or forumites (not that I don't like these people but..ya know.). As for how i'm going to deal with the bullies, I'm going to be as successful as possible and then rub it in their faces when I see them again.

General Discussion / Tennis Question
« on: June 01, 2015, 08:29:16 pm »
I've recently gotten into tennis but have found it very hard to find people around the vincinity to play with. I'm aiming to be part of a college tennis team despite knowing that my chances are bad. I mostly want to get into it for the exercise factor as well as the fact that I was never good enough to play sports except maybe volleyball. Plus I really want to beat a friend of mines who is really good and has been getting super cocky lately and I want to smash him  ;D

That said I want to be a realist and really know if at my age of 20 (2 months from 21) is it too late to get good at Tennis or any sport for that matter? Some say that 16 is your last chance to really have a chance to get ready to play amazing sports and past that its simply too late because your body is done growing. Any athletes, Doctors, or Wise ones with insights to this?

Life Advice / Joining the Navy?
« on: May 22, 2015, 09:13:52 am »
Recently I've gone back to thinking about joining the U.S military through the Navy branch. The Navy and Air force are pretty hands down way more preferred than the Army and Marine Corp. When I talked to some people about it they were happy to see me think about joining one of the 'smarter' branches but a few expressed that I wouldn't last.

I'm not a physically tough individual or mentally tough sometimes too, although I hide it both as best I can. The few detractors said that the Military in general is full of bullies, Jar heads, Jocks, Losers, and anyone else who couldn't find any other role in life to pursue. My question is: How true is it that the military, The Navy specifically, is "Jar headed" as my friends put it.

By the way none of this is meant to offend anyone. In the end I love all Veterans and Service members :D

Forum Games and Roleplaying / The Family (A Mafia Suggestion game)
« on: May 08, 2015, 10:44:39 pm »
The year is 1933 and the country is turning into a powder keg of organized crime. Law breakers who are caught keep silent and are in time broken out by their bosses lawyer in exchange for upholding Omerta, the code of silence. These mobsters are most happy to oblidge and those offered rewards in exchange for turning against their families are dispatched to meet their makers. Some slower than others however...

In the town of chicago the aging Don Quixlote calls his final meeting. Present are his firstly his familly who he keeps close to himself and far away from danger. Secondly are his trusted advisers who he calls his 'right men'. Finally, their are the Capos who run bigger pieces of the Don's operation in exchange for a cut. The Don, your father, receives a standing ovation from everyone but he quickly opens his arms and gestures for all to take their seats.

"Ladies and Gentleman, as you all know I have turned 64 a week ago. I have had the blessings of our last papa to keep the family business alive and keep our worthy friends from poverty. Many of you may know some of our associates extended family who have come to the shores of this great country but receive no opportunity. They came to us and we gave them opportunity. For that we are all noble despite what many may think.

That does however does not excuse the means but it is the ends that matter to us and our families. I look forward to facing judgement from God almighty but lets be honest hard men  are meant to go to hell and look up to see their loving wives angels. I only hope when I get to St. Peters gate I can see Delilah one more time.
"

Everyone remains quite and you were forewarned this is not going to be a 'business as usual' meeting because of the Don's retirement. That said, you can tell this is the one and only time a Don is allowed to show weakness.

"I have done what I can to prepare us all for the future by raising the next Don myself. For one year, he'll be running operations under my care and then i'll fully retire. I expect the people in this room who call me papa, Don, Boss, and Friend to treat thier new boss the same way." He gestures to you and the whole room looks at you.

((Character creation below))

Name: First and Last name (It should be noted that the familly name will be what I call your mobster familly. For example Corleone, Gambino, Genovesse, and etc.)
Age: (20-25 will be accepted because that was the average age of gangsters)
Gender: Will they call you Don or Donna?
Ethnicity: (You are American but where do your roots stretch? Ireland, Italy, Germany, China, Russia, and etc. This is mostly flavor.)
Leadership style: Brutal. The last Don taught you how to be aggresive and tightfisted. You fought kids for fun, sport, and sometimes for other ends. You won a lot of respect from the other kids of your familly including the Capos children who stand to inherit their parents position also one day. If anyone messes with your operation, familly, associates, or you. Well they'll disapear very quickly and if they reappear they won't ever feel okay again.
Deal Maker. When it came to making 'contracts' you could almost be called a buisness man yourself. You remember selling candy at different prices in the parties of other kids at school and church. These friends in turn sold them and gave you a cut of whatever they made out of respect.  Your high point was getting your Math teacher to give you an A for starting a business club in your high school which let you take it easy for most years.
Knife man: You read alot as kid and about how to topple leaders using intrigue, subtlety, and even assassination. While you never needed any of it to be the heir to your families dynasty it will surely help prevent attacks or splits from within your families kingdom here.
Other upbringing?

((Cmon guys lets play. If anything this could turn into a great game or someone may do something like this in the future.))

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Ministry of the Interior (ISG)
« on: May 02, 2015, 10:22:40 am »
The Nation of Novistrania. Once a peaceful and exuberant in its wealth. Now it is a dreary place with constant fights over positions of power, uprisings, crime, and terrorist attacks. A Regency of Military Generals led by Generalismo Joseph Pattock took control of the country in a dire moment after our last King died. They initiated the bloody yet effective "Patriots Acts" which formed the Governments first intelligence agency, Section 441. 441 was a monster to the population because of its near inexhaustible abilities of deposing members of the Generals own Junta, Nationalizing industries, curbing voting rights, martial law, and even notorious assassinations that left guerrilla groups paralyzed but angered.

After only 10 years of the infamous Regency the nation of Novistrania had fallen technologically, economically, and socially compared to other nations of the world. Now a young King named Vasilly Capetoka has taken the throne. As his first decree (at the behest of his mother and other members of his family) he cut back on the excessive powers of section 441 and attempted a near replacement of them in the form of the Ministry of the Interior. While both organizations exist and are wholly indepandant of each other, Section 441 still used its political capital to depose members of the Kings court with puppets in order to stall any future reforms to the country. Many found this to be tyrannical and abusive but feared reprisal if they spoke out...well thats not entirely true. One man did.

That one mas was Generalismo Joseph Pattock himself who has been missing for at least 4 weeks now since his address during the Kings coronation.

So who is the Minister of the Interior? An more importantly can he compete to finally destroy the greatest evil in Novistranian history?

Character Sheet:

Name:
Age: (35-50)
Background: (Everyone was wronged by the Regime in more ways than one)

((So here's how this works. You are the leader of a new Intelligence group who will compete against section 441. You'll have to deal with the nations internal struggles from huge mafia syndicates, uprisings, anarchy, guerrilla groups, and even terrorist groups. They'll all have profiles as you go along.

If this sounds easy then think again! Because section 441 will be dealing with the same issues. Now because of their recent moves they can't exactly go complete exterminatus like they have been and will be on equal footing with your organization. You can work with them, without them, or even against them. But so can they.

Every year their will be national address by the young King and a private meeting to deduce who should receive more funding. It goes without saying that you should out compete Section 441 if you want that funding. So if your interested make a character and find out what job he had before hand if any!))

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Reclamation Suggestion Game
« on: April 06, 2015, 07:26:53 pm »
For years humans, elves, and dwarves all lived in the island of Terroga under a human King. Your father was just as well as his father and no one ever questioned the rule of the Kings of your family, not even the other races. King Yaroslav in particular was known as a superb administrator and a powerful judge of character and law. He was sometimes known as the "Heavenly fathers Fingertip" by some for his divine rule. Life in the island was essentially paradise without equal...until the Orcs attacked.

10 years ago the Orc Grand General Ormoz Blood-Spiller attacked the island with 5 war bands under the cover of darkness. The Orcs terrorized the country side and destroyed countless outposts and villages to get a taste of the land. In mere months half of the island was under their control and your father was looking much weaker both in health and in morale. Despite everything he cobbled together what remaining forces to meet General Ormoz at the gates of the Capital where you witnessed the Orcs firsthand take down the walls and pillage the entire city before assaulting the castle. Many fled to enter the castle but your father ordered the gates closed and the Orcs took their time murdering your people. Knowing the fight was over your father sent you and his entire family away to a passage that helped you escape along with some advisers. Your fathers death was never confirmed but after that day you have never seen him.

What followed was years on the run with the Orcs occupational forces hot on your heels. You spent summers running, autumn running, and hibernated during the winters as you saw your land taken from you. Then a sort of miracle happened on your 13th birthday, General Ormoz Blood-Spiller was killed by a jealous War Cheif who was in turn killed by the others. The Orcs having lost their leaders found themselves desprate to find replacements to not only please their Emperor overseas who wished for a Governor out of Ormoz but also to continue their reign of terror. It was not easy for them however, as Orcs tend to fight for years to decide who is fit to lead them and your spymaster made sure that even if a "winner" was found he would be dead the next night to keep the Orcs unorganized and unable to receive colonial benefits from their Emperor.

You are now 16 years of age. While your life as a Royal family member has not been standard you have experienced much. Possibly more than any King ever has and now you reflect on your life.

Character sheet:

Name: First and Last name.
Gender: Male/Female or...just for you Kevak Trap. Ya I just did that JUST FOR YOU!

During your childhood you were...

A trouble maker. You never stood still always convincing your brothers and sisters to come along as you played pranks and spied on courtiers at the palace. Whenever you were caught though you always knew how to weasle out of anything. In fact once you got a guard to apologize for not opening the vault doors to you..

Aggressive. You played rough with your brothers and sisters. In time you stole a wooden sword from one child and practiced without end. Your mother was worried but your father helped guide your energy to be more responcible. You would later have to give the sword back and buy a new one.

Studious. You couldn't help but dive into the royal archives and library. Everything was their from magic to hisotory and even records of Governance. You even found information on some Lords who attempted to force your parents to divorce via vicous rumors. They were never heard from again and no one is willing to answer what happened.

Continuing forward your life on the run has been rough and you have trained as hard as time was permitted. However, tragedy struck twice when..((Pick 2))

1. Your brothers and sisters were killed by the Orcs during a surprise raid. Although you fought your way out with your mother and most of your followers it has impacted your mother terribly. Her depression is without equal and no one can ever talk to her. You are not sure what to do with her either as she must now be carried wherever she wants to go. You returned the favor one week later by killing an Orc captain and slautering his troops camp. The area around now is more or less clean but you had to leave due to reasons outside your control. The locals however remember your story and tell it again and again. Many now wish to see the return of the Human Kings child on the throne.

2. Genocide. Wherever you went the population centers were destroyed as Orcs picked everything clean from the furniture and coin to floor boards and coffins. Mountains of death were everywhere and people cried for their gods to save them. You did what you could to help but nothing was enough and the affected soon died out also. You have never felt so incapable as a leader until those times. A few however live and tell the tale of your generosity to freedom fighters who in turn try to give you help where possible. They promise their loyalty if you can liberate the cities where they are located in.

3. Long live the Queen. Your mother was assassinated by bounty hunters and took her body despite your attempts to reclaim her. You know only from rumors that an Orcish captain was later eating her in front of his troop and you try not to think much about it..only you do. Your advisers share in the grief and worry that your legitimacy may be at an end now. You now are more prone to see assassins and have even employed one yourself to help you even the score.

General Discussion / Video Game Design
« on: April 04, 2015, 02:03:36 pm »
Just wanted to ask actual game designers this: Do you need a college education/ Major to get into video game design? If so, what school did you go to for it?

I'm interested in learning more about how to possibly join this career since I've been such an avid gamer for years. I know the industry has a darker side (like everything in life) but If anyone could just feed my curiosity that would be awesome. Thank you :D

Life Advice / Oscar grade movies/films?
« on: March 23, 2015, 03:38:15 pm »
So for awhile I tried to enjoy oscar winning films like Rain man, Imitation game, Birdman, a most violent year (it wasn't oscar winning but kinda cool and serious like one), and some other movies like that. But I just don't like them and I'm kinda of shamed of liking movies like Unfinished business and 50 shades of gray. It's not even that I like them but that I understand whats going on and I get engaged more. Not to say I don't get engaged in the ones mentioned above but still.

I am honestly tired of liking bottom of the barrel things in life and want to understand complex emotions that they show in oscar movies so my question is: How do I enjoy Oscar movies?

King Lothaire of Ascalon has sat on his throne for almost a century now. He is 95 years old and passing fast with his only two off spring at his death bed accompanied by the Chaiplan Gumont and Queen Julie. The passing is being taken in by all but the two children of Lothaire have never liked each other, always trying to one up each other in all competitons. One is next in line for the throne clearly chosen none other than by the king himself and the laws to which to protect this childs inheritance. The other however has decided that they will not let their brother take the throne and seeks now to abolish it. This other child wants to create a parliament free of the crowns rule and fit to govern the country as it sees fit.

On the outside the Holy Imperium of Gustandor waits patiently to see how strong Ascalon will be should it descend into instability or even civil war. The Kings children  have always been loved equally by both parents despite the inheritance laws and the Queen Julie herself begs them both to reconsider their disagreements. But they have have both refused for one reason or another. Whether this disagreement will lead to war or just political flanking no one can say yet. But your mother has made it clear she will never see either of you killed or thrown in prison if she can help it. However, she is not a regent and cannot decide anyone's faith especially that of these two Titans. Nor can she do much more than cry or beg as they leave their now expired father.

The winds of change are blowing...

Okay, so we are going to have TWO characters being accepted into this game (if goes through that is). One will be the King or Queen and the other will lead a political organization to create a democracy. The characters will have:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

25
You are part of the Glorius Poltiburo of the soviet union (Political committee/parliament/congress). It's been a long road but you and your comrades have finally done it. Comrade Lenin however has died taken by natural death and now the new leader is Joseph Stalin, who everyone knows is just as likely to shake your hand as kill you. You must tread carefully while currying favor with the new great leader as well as continue to climb the ladder until one day you can become the leader of the nation.

First however, who are you?

Name:
Gender: (Male or Female only (I'm looking at you Kevak..))
Description: (Describe your past life as a child, revolutionary, and politician during the Lenin regime. Also how do you look like?)

*Please note that this will not be 100% historical and you can be from any nationality or ethnic group. Doing so will not hurt you gameplay wise although I will (try) to work with it from a RP perspective.

*This game is inspired by house of cards. You have been warned.

Life Advice / Am i someones female dog?
« on: March 09, 2015, 04:54:52 pm »
So sorry about the foul language but I really need to know the answer to this.

I've asked this girl out in my college and she said she wasn't ready. Later on, I found out that she was liking another guy and I decided to stop trying/ignore her.

Her friends confronted me about it and they got me to talk to her. She basically said I had no reason to do that and she got angry. I said I was sorry and even offered to be a gentleman (ya i'm soft, Still can't fix that about me...). She refused and I just walked away. When I told my friends about it he said That i was basically her B*** now because I just went with what she said. He foretells that now people will now perceive me of being soft/weak and will make it that much more difficult to date a girl.

My question: How true is that and if true can it be fixed?

General Discussion / Music?
« on: February 15, 2015, 12:15:46 pm »
So i have a big question on the following: How do you understand music?

For a humanities class i have to pick 2 songs and discuss them in terms of instrumentation (What instruemnts are played), form, harmonic progression, and key signatuire (which I beleive is what note is used throughout the song). I have never before in my life paid attention to these things and simply liked the beat of music and its basic lyrics. Something my brother in law jokes that I am culturally challenged.

So any tips on learning what all of these notes like dm,C, A are? How to tell which is which? I'd be much obliged for anything that isn't buying the sheets of music online. Which I found here: http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mtdFPE.asp?ppn=MN0116004

Life Advice / How to smile more
« on: February 04, 2015, 11:20:18 pm »
So lately I've been hanging out with a friend who keeps pointing out how depressed I look. Which although is true I'd rather hide it better then be a debbie downer or that guy who's not invited because he ruins the mood with his presence.

Any advice?

I've also thought about taking happy meds but there all prescription stuff and very expensive. If anyone has something to suggest that isn't life damaging I'd like to hear it too.

After 20 years I'd love to get out of  my depressive look and feel.

General Discussion / Mac laptop vs other laptops?
« on: January 29, 2015, 12:51:30 pm »
Hi I'm a student in college and I'm interested with the idea of buying a lap top.

I don't know if I want to buy a 800$ apple laptop or something else. I've heard that macs are for smart people ( is the quality that good or is this just hype?) And Microsoft is for the masses (worse quality/full of viruses.)

I'm making my decisions based off worth. I don't mind going for an expensive laptop as long as it pays me back with good service. So any advice or information on these brands? Or is there an even better laptops for college students that I have no idea about.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Magical School (SG)

You are a Atalian. Your beloved Kingdom flourished long agowhen magic was not present in the Kingdom of Atalia. 200 hundered years ago a great insurrection led by, Zalqui the Necromancer, threw the whole kingdom into a protracted civil war. Zalqui took control of the Eastern mountains of the Kingdom and continued to be a thorn on the side of many kings who saw their legitimacy put to shame as the Necromancer mocked them and killed anyone who challenged him. Then the Empire of Uruns led by Saladin invaded the country from the south and slauthered everyone in order to plunder their pockets. Zalqui and the Kings failed time and time again as they fought Saladins forces and only after a final defensive at the Port city of Radoz did Saladin fall to an arrow. Without their Emperor the Uruns lost the will to fight and fled with their ill gotten riches.

Things stayed consistent with skirmishes, ruin, and economic collapse threatening to sap what little strength the Kingdom had left as the two juggernauts forces collided again and again. It was not until Prince Raynor challenged Zalqui to a magical duel with the losers soul being sealed forever and the winner being named crown prince. The duel was seen by very few but what is known is that Prince Raynor narrowly dodged defeat and defeated Zalqui. However, Zalqui's foll lowers demanded revenge and refused to accept the stakes until a compromise introduced by Prince Raynor was accepted.

The Compromise consisted of more magical freedoms for magicians and built two schools: Zaku the school of Dark arts and Radoz the school of hope. The two schools compete for students every year and both have 250 students each. You have been a chance to go to one of these schools.

But how was it that you got in and who are you?

Name: (First and Last)
Gender: (Male or Female)
Magical attunement: (Fire, Water, Earth, and Air)
Road to glory: 1. Well connected Noble 2. Wealthy merchant father 3. Recommended by magical mother. 4. Something else?
