I smiled, and took a small ration, and got the biggest one's attention. "Hey there, buddy. Got some food. Come on, let's go on an adventure!"

You walk over to the biggest one and rub the rocks. Carefully he looks at whats touching him and notices you and the food you are holding. He intently stares at you until he carefully decides to shuffle forward. This does not go unnoticed as some of his kin also see the food and try to close in and take a bite.
Though, the big one plans to defend his food and thus hisses and smashes himself at his smaller kin. The smaller lizards stand no chance as they are hurled aside and have pieces of their shell broken. 2 minutes later, after lots of hissing and rockbashing, the other lizards decide to let go of this snack and huddle back to the fire.

Satisfied the lizard walks up and with glistening eyes looks at the food you are holding. You split it up in two and give him a piece. Clumsily he drops the piece to the ground, but it makes no difference as he still munches it up. He looks around if you've dropped something else, so you handfeed it this time. He chomps down on it and you quickly let go to avoid getting bit.

He finishes and makes a strange tjirp sound. You walk away a bit to see if it succeeded. The lizard starts following you. Great seems you've tamed him so long as you keep giving him food. You are not sure if you can learn it any tricks though, but giving it a name would be handy.

5/10 All of these new peeps. I don't come often outside of the RTD forum.

Baro have a wife? If he does, ask her if she knows of any strange animals, or wizard types, that may be in this region, and ask her if she can show me the animal tracks.

If not, look for the village head and ask him about any wizard types.

We also found some large animal footprints north of our village, we think that some beast wandered of the Terjan Wilds and crossed the river. But you will have to ask him."

((I wouldn't quote the mention of the animal tracks but since the breeder's name changed from Tamar to Baro I thought I might as well go ahead in case you might've forgotten.))

Oh shit, I used the wrong name. It's alright though, used it once in your prologue. Changed it to Baro now. Also, I actually wanted to have your conv go for longer but my sudden dissapearance didn't make it happen. So you can ask a couple of questions and I will give answers to them without the RP part unless you want it. If so, it will be given at a later frame.
Since I didn't finish it, and you probably feel it as well, I don't want to leave you sitting with little to no information which you actually would have gotten if you had the rp happen.

To start off about his wife. He doesn't have one. She died 3 years ago and hasn't remarried so far.

Turn 2: The hills have eyes

Before you continue.
  • Yo peeps, I had a very rough month of school and college limiting me in many ways. One of them being able to actively work on the rtd, so I;ve postponed it till after the month. I should have notified you, but it’s too late for that now. Expect updates at regular intervals now.

Player/world actions

Ahrian and Rapheal hoped to avoid any fighting, but danger always finds you. On their way to the circle, the duo got ambushed by some road bandits. Unfortunately for them, they bit off more than the could chew as the easy pickings of a young girl and a possibly armed man turned out to be a mage and a spirit guard.

The bandits surrounded the duo with most of them coming from the forest, some from the road ahead and one person which followed them from the previous town. Ahrian quickly made short work of some of the bandits as she transformed them into smoldering corpses and struck fear into the rest with her over-sized fireballs. Besides killing a few Ahrian also killed the mount of what seemed to be the leader of this group and severely hurt him.

Rapheal went more for a physical approach as he charged and surprised one of the bandits, by quickly incapacitating him. Rapheal crushed his shoulder and turned his attention to the hooded figure which looked like he was skilled with the use of a short sword and dagger.

The fight was short but intensive, as quick manoeuvring and a couple attempts at hitting each other resulted in Raphael breaking the thief’s defense in one fell slash across the thief’s chest.

Shortly after the ambush the fight had ended with a few of the bandits being dead and the others having run away. The duo saw where they ran, so they could chase them down or start looting the bodies and do something else.

Dwarmin (Leo Westerland)
"We should find a place to hole up for the night-we won't get much sleep, I think, unless it's the sleep of the dead. It's likely whatever we're hunting is going to pay us a visit tonight..." Leo muses to his silent friend.

"It's best we build a big fire and keep it lit all night-sleep lightly, carry torches, hour shifts each until the sun comes up. On top of a hill, maybe-cut away shrubbery to deny cover and feed the fire. They'll see two of us and likely think their numbers can carry them...well, we'll just have to do our best."

Action: Find a good place to camp for the night that is easy to defend, with clear sightlines and some height-set up watch fires and shifts to keep a look out for visitors.

Blazing Glory (Katrianne Ellen)

Reach the village
(-) Baro was of questionable help and you didn’t get any real clues either. You’ll have to wait till nighttime and see what’s up or maybe the villagers know more unlike Baro. Until then, there’s the rest of the day where you can do anything you want.

DarkArtemisFowl (Raphael Markaus)
Quote
Reach the circle
(-)Auto-ed turn taking Ahrians action as example.
“Raphael, could you tie up the survivor?”
“Yes, no problem.”
You walk over the the hurt bandit, he tries to resist your attempts at subduing him but his shoulder makes it difficult to do so. You strip him off his weapons and armor, then blindfold him.

Ahrian’s is just about finished checking up on the bodies and ready to interrogate the captive, so you go and push horse carcass off the road. You almost broke a sweat, doing so.

Ahrian having finished interrogating the captive, tells you of her findings. Afterwards you escort the captive to the nearby town and turn in the captive. Their reaction is not what you expected and unfortunately there was no bounty of some sorts. Ahrian also overheard something and quickly told you about it, seems we might have company tonight.
A quick trip around the town to sell the loot and buy some neccesities bring the both of you at a local tavern. You’ll be staying there for one night in a mediocre room.

What now?

Lenglon (Ahrian)
((waiting on deciding on post-combat action until DAF posts his. I'm inclined to:
first secure the remaining bandits (tie up + remove weapons, etc) and
check to see if the "dead" ones are actually dead,
then heal any life-threatening injuries they have, and while healing them
interrogate our captives about why they ambushed us and who they work for,
then loot the bodies / anything we want from the ones we captured,
then move the bodies off the road,
then escort the captives to the nearest town and
turn them in to the guard (and check for if they have a bounty on them for us to collect, as well as
telling the guards about the bodies we had to leave out there so they can get a burial detail to handle it),
then spend the night in town because it'll be getting late by then if not sooner,
then go shopping for equipment using our spoils, then, finally,
decide if we want to continue on our way or want to follow up on the bandit's employer or abort our trip entirely, depending on the information we got from the previous steps.
(-) You let Raph do more of the physical labor, like tying them up while doing the other less dangerous activities.

While Rapheal is disarming and securing the only bandit left alive, you go check on the others to make sure that they are truly dead.
You make a quick pass around the charred remains, confirming that they are in fact very dead and still smoldering. The stench is quite strong, so you don’t stick around for long.
Then you go to the cloaked figure, lying in a pool of blood. You carefully turn him around, revealing the huge gash. He too is dead by having bled out.

Raphael is just about finished securing the captive. You need him alive for interrogation so you tend to his wounds. You don’t have any medicine with you, so cleaning it with water and bandaging it with some cloth is the best you can do.

Following the bandaging is the interrogation.
“Who send you? Why did you attack?”
The bandits painfully mutters:“ It was Gaheron. He wanted to trade you in as a slave to some rich baron and send the man to the working mines.”
“Who’s Gaheron?”
“I don’t know, I took orders from a guy under him. In fact the coward ran away. All I know is that you don’t mess with him if you want to live. I won't talk anymore and soon neither will you.” he threatens.
Fair enough, you think. You leave the bandit for the moment to loot the bodies, he won’t be going anywhere anyway.

You loot the thief first. You take the hard leather armor excluding the body which is destroyed, 2 iron daggers, a shortsword, 1 vial with some liquid in it, a note, silver ring and the boots.

The note says:
Quote
Lucius, the hawks report of a young girl with white skin and possible ear and tails accompanied by one male. They are cloaked and will come from the Northern road. Get Ebon and round up the mob, bring me the girl she’ll fetch a nice price, dispose of the man.

Well that’s nice. Unfortunately he won’t be happy with the recent events. Looking further there are the charred bodies. There’s nothing to take expect the weapons so you grab their swords.

You wait a bit for Rapheal to finish his labor and then escort the captive to the nearby down. They are, to your surprise, not too pleased considering that you caught a bandit. They attempt poorly congratulate you, but fail in doing so. There’s something wrong and you happen to overhear a whisper on the way out.

“What will we do now? Gaheron will have our heads for this.”
“I don’t know. Treat the bandit and be helpful to them. He might leave us alone, since we aren’t the ones responsible for this.”
“Yes, you’re right. Let’s hope that will be the case.”

You don’t have time to overhear more since i’d strange and suspicious, standing around in the hallway. It seems that Gaheron has the village under his control and the villagers are quite afraid of him. You might need to be on your guard and the night might be a sleepless one.

You go around the village selling the spoils of war, they aren’t too difficult to sell. The profits aren’t huge since the weapons and armor aren’t of exceptional quality or use rare materials, but money is money. Having sold the loot and bought a couple necessities like medical things, food and water. You’ve got 13 silver and 8 bronze left.

You spend 6 silver for the both of you for a night at some local tavern. The room is very plain, 2 beds, sheets, pillows, table with a jug of water. Nothing amazing but sufficient for a decent night of sleep.

What now?

You gained Basic Medicine Kit

Salsacookies (Ronald Bones)
"Yeah, sounds like a good plan." I begin to set up camp, and get a good look of the surrounding wilderness. "Y'kno, It's very hard for me to imagine something so evil can hide in someplace so beautiful. I despise deception, makes you wish it's real, only to discover it's out to kill you."

Some though later, I begin to load bullets into my weapon. "So, what should we expect, other than little gremlins biting at our ankles?"
(-)
You check your gun to see if it's loaded and load up any of the empty barrels. Jokingly you ask something, but Leo's response is not too pleasing. You take a look around and see a good spot set-up camp.

The spot is right in the open quite close to a small cliff, you wouldn't die from a fall but it would leave behind something. You have a good overview of the area under the cliff and around you since there is only dry shrubbery and lots rocks around it. You mention the place to Leo and he agrees that it's a decent spot given the circumstances. While you prepare the camp, Leo starts a fire using the dry shrubbery, sticks and some luck.

While the fire slowly starts burning you hurry around grabbing any wood you can find and return to camp. The fire starts smoldering and the deep darkness of the night sets in. There are only a few small clouds in the sky and such, you can clearly see around the camp. A couple hours pass with nothing to warn Leo about until you see a bunch of rocks moving in the distance, various lenghts away from eachother. The heaps reach no bigger than your knees but there are atleast 5 homing in on your position.

"Leo."
"Yes?"
"The rocks are moving."
"Moving? To where?"
"Here."

Ronald and Leo quickly scramble their weapons and prepare for combat, steadily the rocks approach.

"What could they be? Demons?"
"I don't know but if these are demons then I haven't seen or heard about them before."[/i]

The rocks are nearly here, both of you tighten your grips and prepare to evade. Though just before you, the rocks stop moving.
"Don't let up, it might be a trick."

The rocks grows slightly bigger as some creature akin to a lizard shows itself. The rocky part seems to be a part of it's outershell. They totally ignore you as they run past you to the fire. The lizards huddle around the fire and then hide inside their rocky shells.

"Hmm. Not what I expected."

Leo thinks hard.
"Oh. I actually remember these things, or at least something that looked like these. Back when I was a kid around northern fringe of the Harathi desert, there were these sand murkers. Lizards with hard rocky shells. They hid themselves from danger since the shell was nearly impossible to crack and they scavenged whatever they could find. Meat, greens, rotten food, one even ate a basket that smelt off apples. They were harmless since they didn’t attack anyone, but their voracious appetite made them a real pest to deal with.. "

"How do we get rid of them?"
"Well, we either crack their shell and kill them, leave them alone or we'll have to lift them. I wouldn't prefer the latter since these seem bulkier than I remember and they are really heavy considering they carry real rocks on their back."
“Let’s see what they do and do something about them later. Will you take watch now?”
“Yeah, that’s fine. Get some rest. There may be more surprises.”

Nothing else happens throughout the night, Leo and Ronald continuously rotated their shifts just in case. In the morning the sun rises from behind the mountains revealing the slopes and the lands below.

What now?

1. Err have you looked over at the OOC thread in the general mechanics tabs? It probably does miss some things, but it does contain the result table for regular actions (Which contains attempts in casting spells), close combat/accuracy, dodge, etc.

2. Agree with that, failed on the continuation part. Partly at fault because I wanted to pop out an turn after a long while of doing nothing.

3. The actual fight ended, there was no more combat to be done. The picture showed which ways the bandits ran because your PC actually saw it, I even described that you saw the leader and his 'guards' run away in some direction which you saw. You can very well pursue if you wish so and most likely catch them, the mistake at my part is that I mistakingly wrote 'One action'. My intention was that after the battle you'd still have the chance to perform a regular set of actions if you aren't incapacitated( Which you are not). Imagine that this all happens within minutes or even seconds and not days.

4. Bleh, I understand the issue but PM's would make it an mess. That the other players didn't receive updates is a mistake on my part, don't get me wrong. But usually I would have done a turn within 2-4 days and if combat is included a week or so or longer if it's a particularly hard or epic battle.
I just found quicktopic to be a better alternative to counter a PM storm.

EDIT: Just like I did with blazing glory is one of the things that I would do to not have the other players sit around doing nothing.

5. Yes and no. Yes, opponents maybe should be smarter( and a lot of them are and will be). HOWEVER, on the other hand imagine that they expected for one man, possibly armed and a frail girl not a mage and a spirit protector of some sorts. Or should they expect everyone to be an arch wizard and a champion gladiator? They are the el classico bandits, guys which just gang up on other guys and go for easy pickings. This was supposed to be an introductory battle and you happened to roll lucky. Two massive overshoots on a spell? Not getting parried once? It can go way worse, the dice just favored you. Keep in mind that I don't alter results since it's not right and I don't gain anything from it. If you die,you die, if you get wounded, you get wounded, etc.

6. Yeah, agree on that. One shortcoming of quicktopic or something that i haven't figured out is to color text, I should add names to text.

7. You didn't initially know that the guy was a thief or any of the bandits for that matter, as described in your prologue, he was a dude wearing a cloak that followed and the dude on a horse was just a bandit on a horse. Until you made that action and chose to attack him the thief became or was revealed as a thief of some sorts because of the actions he had to do. Given he was wearing a cloak, threw daggers and had leather armor he was labeled as such.
Labeling NPC's is clearer than saying, bandit with shortsword , bandit with dagger, bandit with strange tatoo's. it's an assumption that your character can make. You didn't know anyone until they did something or something was done to them.
If you saw a person wearing a cloak, which threw a dagger and wears light armor. How would you label him? Bandit in light armor, wields daggers and cloak or thief?
IF you saw a person wearing heavy armor, a shield and a sword. How would you label him? Bandit in heavy armor, shield and sword or warrior?

Even if I were to label someone as thief, would you honestly know what could be capable of doing?

On the topic of meta. Yeah you know a lot of things your character doesn't, that's why you are ought to play as if he doesn't know that stuff. You know the entire story of the order of knights while you are not from this universe. Is that an issue? Should I have kept that a secret?

About the status effect, it's not that hard to figure out. I mean if you have ever burned yourself or seen it happen, etc, then you would know that it will hinder the person. You, the player, knew the amount because well, it doesn't matter because of the dice randomness. Would it change ANYTHING if you didn't know that he had a -1 modifier? No it would not.
This could be used against me as well since it'd be like, "where does this -1 modifier come from? ah yes the burn hand.".

8. It's hard to avoid, I'm trying to run an RTD not an DnD game without voice comms or live chat. I have to make assumptions or things would literally take forever to do since you don't agree that your guy should stand over there but over there. I make the assumptions based for the best possible outcome for your PC, and if a dice is involved and it rolls bad then bad luck.  I'm sorry if it seems that i auto'ed your PC's I didn't mean it that way, but I had to start somewhere. You are never inclined to follow what I give you, just do what you want. You now can actually attempt to eliminate the bandits in the area, go to the village to ask if they are a problem, walk into the forest in search of their base to take whatever they took, the options are countless but they couldn't be there if I didn't auto you on your first action.

I could plop you down on the road and continuously ask what you want to do but that's not what I'd like to do for an RTD. In your case since you are both out of this world and don't know anything whatsoever and wish to return to where ever you come from, I assumed that you initially would try to travel to the circle (Since they seem to know about this stuff) and bump on things along the way and see if you would continue towards the circle for your personal quest or do other quests and abandon your personal cause or continue it at an later point.

111
Find Baro.

As instructed you walk past the smithy towards the riverside. You follow the muddy path into the cornfields, the corns are big enough to barely block the sight behind the fields. You exit the field and immideatly see a grazing field with the cows. The cows aren't quite as you expected them to be. They are big, very big and wooly like a sheep but less thick and have huge horns.
"Ah, I see that you are interested in my ladies." Some guys says, revealing himself from behind one of the cows.
"Fine animals they are. As lovely as regular cows, but more rigid and more profitable." The man says.

He is slightly smaller than one of the cows. Surprising that he can keep these cows under control whilst being smaller than them.
"You are Baro, right?"
"Indeed I am, but what brings a Dame to my humble abode?"
"Lior, the fisherman. Told me that your cows dissapear overnight."
"Ah, Lior. What a fine chap. Yeah, hes right! My darlings vanish overnight, as if they never existed! These mountain cows are tougher than your normal cow. More muscled and fierce against predators, their horns can cause some nasty wounds but luckily i'm no predator for them. So wolves and such are not a threat to them, even then the issue is that there are no signs of struggle.

No blood, no footprints.
So I don't know what it could be, maybe something that flies, though I cannot imagine a beast large and strong enough to lift one of these. Magic, maybe.

So you tell me Dame. I'm willing to pay a lot if you can stop whatever is causing this."

Sup guys, back at home so updates and such should be at regular intervals or at least quicker than before.

112
Ask someone nearby.

"Where can I find the breeder? I'm a...mercenary, and I heard he might have work."

You ask a couple of times before finally a lady with bunned hair carrying some vegetables walks up.
"So the fortress finally decided that they value their weekly delivery of meat?"
"I'm not from the fortress..."
"Oh pardon me, but soldiers from the fortress often come here, so I assumed that you were too. We told them of the problem a couple of weeks ago but nothing has been done yet."
"When you reach the smithy, go right towards the riverside. You won't see it right away but eventually you'll reach the pastures. Baro should be there, most likely around the cows since he's wary."

"Thanks, I'll get going."

So what now?

(-)You arrive at the slopes, then sun is setting and it's starting to get dark. Luckily the sky isn't cloudy and there are little trees around, so the moonlight is illuminating the surroundings well. The trail however is difficult to see. A while back Stranger rejoined, he's very observant so he might be of help. Or you could set up camp for the night and wait it out.

(-) You reach the village and Lior drops you off, you take your farewell and proceed further into the village. The village is similar to the village from your childhood. Dried fish and meat are hung, small livestock in the open and wooden & hay houses. The village looks quite poor but the people look happy or at least as happy as you can be in these times. People occasionally glance at you, but pay no real attention to you. The presence of soldiers is probably normal around here because of the fortress.

You see a few vegetable stalls and a bit further a smith. Lior said to ask around for the exact where-about of the breeder, or I could go to the next town to aid the hunting party.

Prologue: Ahrian & Raphael Markaus

Spoiler: RP of the players (click to show/hide)

Having met and establishing a mana link between each other, the duo believes that the Circle might be of help in their individual quests. In Ahrian's case it would be a way to return to her world and in Rapheal's case to find a means of enlightenment for the people of this world to complete the mission given by his deity. You feel somewhat attracted since both of you aren't from this world or dimension, so you both understand the hardships that you are going trough.

A little bit of asking around quickly nets you the name of the town where the Circle is located. It's well-known in Brufia so finding it isn't too difficult of a task. Though getting there is something else since the journey on foot takes a couple of days. So you start traveling to the town of Hexadris where the Circle lies.

All goes well, until the duo stopped by one of the towns to resupply, the town is located near the center of Brufia in a somewhat desolate area. After leaving the town Ahrian noticed that a hooded figure started following the duo.
"Raphael, that man is following us." Ahrian whispers.
"Don't be silly he might be going to the next town."

The sky gets cloudy and it starts raining, the town is nearly out of sight. The rain masks most of the sound, though Ahrian's sharp hearing still picks up rustling coming from the nearby tree line.
"Raphael, there's something in the bushes."

He looks and spots shades, though he can't quite make up the shapes of the shades. That doesn't matter as a mounted figure and 2 others block the road ahead and the hooded figure behind unsheathes his sword.
"It seems you're right. Prepare yourself, they don't seem to be friendly."

A good distance from the mounted figure they stop and more lackeys appear from the forest.
"Hand over the girl and nothing will happen to you." He shouts.
"As if I would. I prefer to sleep without a feeling guilt, can you?"
"GUT HIM. DON'T HARM THE GIRL, SHE CAN BRING UP A FORTUNE!."

The bandits charge! Brace for combat!

(The next turn you will be locked in combat, woo! Instructions will follow in turn 1)

Now look Zero, you made Lenglon all sadface.

Christmas attacked and I had to essentially reinstall my pc from scratch since my HD was failing. It's nearly done though.

We exchanged PMs basically asking each other "what now?" and both came up empty, but forgot to say so in-thread. it's a non-issue, our fault for not saying anything.

I'll think up something.  ;)

Mr. Zero? waiting on you. I'm ready to start the main game. DAF and I are essentially done. I need to stick with him to maintain our link, and he likes helping people. You have both how we met and why we're joining the main storyline complete and ready.

Ah, ok. I thought there was a continuation after your last RP in the mainthread. I'll write something up soon.

Prologue: Leo Westerland & Ronald Bones
(I'm not sure where you got the ranch quest from but I'll roll with it!)

Spoiler: RP of the players (click to show/hide)

The village where Leo and Ronald met is called Haram, it lies in the center of 2 mountain slopes with Bremia being North-East, Tarkan steppes being North-West, Brehonia being South-East and the Terjan wilds being South-West from the village. North of the village is the River Garam, East is the Tiorian lake, West are the mountainous slopes of the Garam mountains and South the Terjan lowlands marking the less dangerous forests of the Terjan Wilds.

Having met each other and exchanged a couple of words, Leo and Ronald travel further to a nearby ranch where there's supposedly something to do. The specifics aren't know but people from the village specifically said that this issue requires a specialist or two to solve, where specialist would be anyone varying from being an inquisitor all the way to a mage. So they assumed both that it were demons of some sort causing a ruckus, though not powerful enough to attract any other specialists.

A quick ride on Stranger brings the duo to the ranch. The ranch looks like any regular ranch. Large fields surrounded by small moats and wooden fences, with horses, cows and chokobos grazing in them. In the center a couple of wooden sheds and a farmhouse.

At the farmhouse they stop, waiting to see if anyone is there. Luckily there is as an middle aged lady, dressed in a skirt wearing an apron with bunned up hair comes outside.
"Hello there, is there something you're looking for?"

Leo takes the word as he's slightly more normal and charming than Ronald.
"Yes, the local townsfolk from Haram said that you have an problem of sorts that requires the aid of specialists?"
"Ah, yes that's right. My husband knows more, he's in the backfield repairing the damage done by whatever caused it. You can walk around the house to him. Meanwhile do I need to tend to your horse?"

"Ah, no tha-" before Leo can finish stranger already walks towards her.
"A will of his own..." Leo mutters.
"Seems, he likes you. We'll get going."

The duo walks around the house reaching the somewhat hidden field. Here the damage can be clearly seen as several ripped open cows lie further back in the field and the fence is totally shattered. On the ground there are visible footprints, claws, hooves, hard to tell, there are a lot of them so it means that there's more than one. In the back there's a burly man, looking off into the distance where a blood trail is heading to.

You approach him.
"You here for the job?" he asks, not looking your way.
"Yes."

He turns around
"Good. I don't need to tell you what they did, as you can see for yourself. I also don't know who or what did this, but it were probably some demons. Wildlife wouldn't have done this, at least not this brutally. Even if it hailed from the Terjan Wilds.
The deal is simple. Kill whatever killed my flock, bring me the heads and I will pay you. Be it with gold, animals, secrets or favors from the townsfolk. I simply can't afford to lose another flock in these dark times."

Sounds simple, you both think.
"The trail goes West, the attack happened overnight so I think they're hiding in a cave around there. Good luck friends, hopefully you'll return unscathed."
We will.

The duo says as their final words before marching to the fringe of the slopes.

(On turn 1, you'll be at the fringe of the Garam slopes)
