kindly allow me to both show interest and point out that that is a terrifying number of reserve posts.

Better to have more than too little.  :P

Tales of Magic OOC thread
_____________________________________________________________________________

Welcome to the Tales of Magic RTD OOC thread. Tales of Magic will be an Urban Fantasy with future elements RTD.

You will be able to create your character here for the upcoming rtd, ask questions regarding the game itself and read lore about the world you are playing in.

The rules, dice sheets, etc will be revealed with the 'Real' RTD thread. Over the course of the next 2-3 hours i will be adding more material to this thread. Lore is an exception, i will give some initial lore about certain things but more lore will be added as questions are asked or the story progresses.

First i will add the sign-up sheet, so that people may already start joining the rtd!
also a heads up to the dwellers of ##bay12rtd irc-chat(Especially Errol) for helping me with designing some things.

Magic
_____________________________________________________________________________
First, before you make a choice, i will have to give an brief explanation of how magic works in my RTD. I don't have the exact word or name for it but it was suggested as "Reagent based Magic" in the chat. The concept is simple.

Reagent based magic means that you cannot ‘Create’ something out of nothing. You have to use your surrounding in all kinds of ways to use your magic, this of course differs per magic ( Though it is not uncommon that 2 magics use a similar resource to work).

For example. To use fire magic you need to create fire. You can create fire by having:
  • Igniting the reagents (With a finger flick for example)
  • Oxygen
  • Flamable materials in the vicinity
  • Raw mana

Some magic's require creativity to be properly used, so think well before you choose a type of magic. Because it’s hard to obtain a different magic.

list of Magic
_____________________________________________________________________________
For each magic i will explain: What the magic utilizes, some 'forced' characteristics which its users have and a couple strengths and weaknesses. I will not reveal every strength and weakness as that is something that the user/player has to find out for himself.

Also if you have a question regarding a magic, like an example of a spell or mechanics about the magic then please ask. You may do this by PM’ing me if you wish to keep it secretive or you can just post the question and I will publicly answer it.

_____________________________________________________________________________
Nulls
_____________________________________________________________________________
Why would you want to be an Null when there is all this magic? Well… maybe because of Order Magic, more specialized weaponry and EXO-suits! I will explain them one by one.

_____________________________________________________________________________
Order Magic
_____________________________________________________________________________
Order magic is anti-magic. Its users enforce the laws set on magic use and punish those which misuse it. It is not like regular magic as you can only restrict, destroy and suspend the use of magic to keep order in the world.

In the world there are magic laws, with those laws comes power which the order mages use to subdue misbehavior. Depending on who creates the law, there comes a power level to which extend you can restrict people. If no laws are set, then you cannot enforce the law and punish anyone misusing magic.

Strength(s)
  • Can subdue any type of magic

Weakness(es)
  • Use a law book to perform their magic
  • Dependant on laws to use their magic

_____________________________________________________________________________
Specialized Weaponry
_____________________________________________________________________________

Because Nulls cannot use magic they have to re compensate with something, namely Specialized Weaponry. Specialized weaponry are weapons like guns, sword, hammers, anything that can be considered a 'real' weapon but engineered to be twice as powerful as they normally would. SW is also often rune-inscribed making them so much more deadly with all the added effects.

Magic users cannot use this weaponry because of certain precautions taken, this does not include weaponry which they themselves created.

_____________________________________________________________________________
EXO-Suits
_____________________________________________________________________________

EXO-Suits are the product of a very long research done by Nulls. This research was shortly started after the appearance of magic and when they discovered that not everyone could use it. The purpose of this project was to develop suits which nulls can use to battle mages. In this project, Order magic was discovered as well. Order magic was researched in a different project shortly after the completion of the EXO-suit project.

EXO-Suits can only be used by non-magic users due to the presence of Mana-Cores and MIF-Field detection.

EXO-Suits come in 4 kinds.
Civilian, Light and Heavy EXO-suits and Mech Armor.

_____________________________________________________________________________
The suits
_____________________________________________________________________________

Civilian suits are meant for those which will not be involved in combat and they use them for work-purposes only.

Light EXO-suits are similar in design to the Crysis suit. They retain their agility while enhancing the user’s ability to do something, depending on the light suit equipped. Light EXO-suits are the most common type of suit besides the civilian variations.

Heavy EXO-suits are similar in design to the light ones, but they are able to wield bigger and stronger weaponry, equipment and armor. Heavy EXO-suits are used in more harsh circumstances when the light variation just doesn’t do the job.

Mech armor is truly the most fearsome and dangerous equipment Nulls can field.  Mech armor is able to wield the most powerful weapons, equipment and armor Nulls have created. Their size can be equal to large-buildings. Though rare to see, they are fielded sometimes against high level targets when the deed needs to be done without any chance of failure.

To give an idea of how big the EXO-suits and mech armor are, here a 2 pictures.
In this picture there are 4 suits. Unarmored, Civilian, Light and Heavy in that order.

In this picture you can see the size difference between a human and mech armor. Keep in mind that it's a medium sized mech.

Hello guys, I'm designing a modern fantasy magic rtd.

Anyhow.
There is one type of magic in my rtd, namely Chaos. Chaos magic is every magic with a touch of randomness. In any case, i was wondering if someone has a dice sheet for randomness with additional overshoot sheets.

Example: Player A casts Fireball, however since he's an chaos mage, i must roll X amount of Dice depending on how powerful the spell is to add random effects. These effects can be either favorable or unfavorable to the caster.

For this example, i will use an D10 and roll 3 times. I roll a 5,10 and 7.
-Number 5 on the first layer of the random sheet adds volatile residue to the spell
-Number 7 on the first layer of the random sheet adds tripled explosion radius
-Number 10 is overshoot, this means that i will advance to the second layer of the randomness sheet. The second layer introduces more dangerous effects. For this i will roll the dice once again. I roll an 8
-Number 8 on the second layer of the random sheet adds Backlash to the spell. Backlash harms the user in some way upon using the spell.

End example

So i was wondering if someone has such an system/dice sheet or has heard of one, if so then i also ask if that person would be willing to share it. I will of course give credit to the creator and/or user which helped me.

I heavily advise the players to check their character sheets soon for mistakes, i'm still updating some but it should be completed quickly.

Wombat suit
(-):
"Suit Wombat selected, please remain calm and refrain from moving during the suiting process."

The terminal hologram vanishes into thin air into thin air, while you slowly hear a feint sound of a rumbling engine. As the noise gets harder, mechanical arms emerge from the steel walls.
They start with attaching a very thin exo-skeleton over your latex suit, you feel very weak stings all over your body but it fades quickly. After the skeleton is finished, padding material is added to fill the gaps in between.

Then something resembling an engine or battery pack is attached just above your hip and thin wiring is added to the exo skeleton before you feel a sharp sting in your neck, exactly the same as when you entered this chamber.
The arms finish the suiting process by adding a thin wafers of metal all over the suit to cover as much as possible without restricting any movement.

"Basic suit structure set, starting advanced suit sequence."

This time bigger arms emerge from the walls with armor plating and modules. The armor is brownish/gray . The armor plates are all firmly attached to the exo skeleton and some parts are welded together. You also see that that parts of your suit receive a double armor plating. Amongst the welding and adding of armor you notice that there are actually small drones working on your suit as well, wiring the modules to the power pack.
Mini engines resembling those of the old F16 fighter but more futuristic are attached and welded to your legs and even smaller ones around your legs. A new type of drone comes out of the wall and starts rewiring even more and fiddles around with your power pack.

You really feel the weight of the armor and start wondering how you will be able to speed around as the suit described. But this thought disappears when a helmet is slid over your head. On the terminal in the helmet  a screen boots up.

"Booting.....
Powercore... 100%
Muscle reflexers....not activated
activating muscle boosters."

Temporarily all of your body goes numb, After that you feel your muscles relaxing and becoming bigger. This makes you somehow feel stronger.

"Agility Booster....not activated
activating Agility booster."

This feeling is similar to the previous one but you feel your muscles straining intensely and relaxing, you don’t feel anything right away but you think that this has to do with the agility part of the suit.

"Testing Boosters…."

Additional arms extend from the wall grasping you firmly, while the boosters activate themselves. It’s getting kind of getting warm in here when they suddenly turn off.

"Loading Suit Software.....
New AI added: Dreiner
Selected current AI: Aurora
Finishing booting......
"

"Wombat suiting sequence, complete. Please grab a hold of the weapon provided and leave the chamber."

In the end you receive a gun, to be exact an SMG like weapon. You have no idea what kind of gun it is until you grab it, when suddenly your screen shows information about the gun.

Quote
Name:   Nov Corps ‘Rattlesnake’ SMG
Description:   The Rattlesnake is another classic of the Nov Corporations. Unlike the Bulldog it’s not very simple in design but very reliable and accurate. The rattlesnake can fire in single, triple or full automatic modes. To increase the accuracy even more you can extend certain parts of the weapon to make it into a regular 2 hand SMG. Nov Corps suggest the exclusive use of 7mm Hollow point Tungsten Rounds or any other 7mm ammo type.
Type: Mini SMG
Ammo Type consumption: Any 5mm ammo type, no irradiated rounds.
Damage Type: Depends on ammo.
Effective range: Up to 25m
Offensive add on slots: 2
Defensive add on slots: 0

Besides the gun there are 2 ammo mags which you grab as well, again a small terminal with information appears.

Quote
Name: Nov Corps 7mm Hollow Point Tungsten rounds
Capacity: 32 rounds
Damage type: Anti Infantry “+2 damage to unarmored targets or +1 damage to lightly armored targets.”

You step out of the chamber, what now?

Dwarmin(Kathryn Fry)
Action: Select the H2 Medical suit

OOC: Yay! Not dead!
():
"Suit H2 selected, please remain calm and refrain from moving during the suiting process."

The terminal hologram vanishes into thin air into thin air, while you slowly hear a feint sound of a rumbling engine. As the noise gets harder, mechanical arms emerge from the steel walls.
They start with attaching a very thin exo-skeleton over your latex suit, you feel  2 kinds of stings: very weak stings and needle-like like stings all over your body but it fades quickly. You happen to see what causes the more painful stings, surgical tubing. These very thin tubes are put inside your skin near your veins, surprisingly it heals quickly. You aren’t sure why, but you guess that they are using medical gel. You’ve heard of it in the past, but back then it was just in testing phases and not very effective at all.
After the skeleton is finished, padding material is added to fill the gaps in between.

Then something resembling an engine or battery pack is attached just above your hip and thin wiring is added to the exo skeleton before you feel a sharp sting in your neck, exactly the same as when you entered this chamber. Another engine like thing is added but this one is attached on your spine and follows your spine curve, it glows slightly green. This ‘thing’ is connected with the tubing by a medical type drone.
The arms finish the suiting process by adding a thin wafers of metal all over the suit to cover as much as possible without restricting any movement.

"Basic suit structure set, starting advanced suit sequence."

This time bigger arms emerge from the walls with armor plating, tools and modules. The armor is clear white with red stripes. The armor plates are all firmly attached to the exo skeleton and some parts are welded together. Amongst the welding and adding of armor you notice that there are actually small drones working on your suit as well, wiring the tools and modules to the power pack.

Even though armor is added, you don’t feel a change in weight. But this thought disappears when a helmet is slid over your head. On the terminal in the helmet  a screen boots up.

"Booting.....
Powercore... 100%
Mind booster….not activated
Activating mind booster.”

Just as the AI said that, your whole mind goes blank. The kind of blank where you suddenly watch into the sunlight, but this doesn't last long as you are suddenly able to solve things in your mind you couldn't before.

"Testing tools..."

Your whole suits powers itself up and the tools start buzzing, moving and doing whatever they're supposed to do.

"Loading Suit Software.....
New AI added:  Nurse Ellie
Selected current AI: Aurora
Finishing booting......
"

"H2 suiting sequence, complete. Please grab a hold of the weapon provided and leave the chamber."

Quote
Name: Nov Corps 'Bulldog' handgun
Description: The Bulldog handgun is one of the first weapons ever produced by Nov Corps, the sheer simplicity but outstanding power of the gun made it very popular in the army. The Bulldog has been upgraded over the years being able to use a large variety of ammo thus making it good as an all-round weapon. The manufacturers do advise to use .60 Tungsten Cal ammunition for maximum damage and gun compatibility. Finally the gun is mostly known for its double shot ability.
Type: Revolver handgun
Ammo Type consumption: Any ammo type in between .45 and .65, no irradiated rounds.
Damage Type: Depends on ammo.
Effective range: Up to 22m
Offensive add on slots: 1
Defensive add on slots: 0
Primary effect: Double shot : "Overheats the gun, forcing it to fire twice. Severely worsens weapon durability. Can be used once every 2 combat turns."
Besides the gun there are 2 ammo drums which you grab as well, again a small terminal with information appears.

Capacity: 8 rounds
Damage type: Armor Piercing “-1 armor grade to enemy armor”

Just as the AI said that, your whole mind goes blank. The kind of blank where you suddenly watch into the sunlight, but this doesn't last long as you are suddenly able to solve things in your mind you couldn't before. But this goes even further, you can sense something more. You aren’t sure what it is, but you’ve heard of this mysterious Dark energy in the past and think that they learned to use it.

"Loading Suit Software.....
New AI added:  Mastermind
Selected current AI: Aurora
Finishing booting......
"

"Psy suiting sequence, complete. No weapons are provided to your suit as your suit does not require weapons to fight."

You leave the chamber and with the freshly uploaded memories you want to try out the suit without destroying the whole facility. So you decide to do something basic according to your memories, levitation.

You create a simple thought of wanting to slightly hover just above the ground and it works like a charm. Amazing, you wonder what you can do more with this suit.

penguinofhonor (Doris Finnegan)
I don’t think you chose a suit, if yes then please PM me, if no then still PM me with your choice.

Choose Rhino suit

(-):
"Suit Rhino selected, please remain calm and refrain from moving during the suiting process."

The armor is Dark Grey . The armor plates are all firmly attached to the exo skeleton and some parts are welded together. But it doesn’t stop with one layer of armor plating, multiple layers are added. Slowly your suits becomes a very bulky mass of steel.Amongst the welding and adding of armor you notice that there are actually small drones working on your suit as well, wiring the modules to the power pack.
Then a drone adds a secondary power pack over your first, wiring it again into the whole suit system. Massive stabilizers are added all over your suit, most probably for the siege mode.

The amount of armor added is inhumane and you don’t think that you will be able to move at all. But this thought disappears when a helmet is slid over your head. On the terminal in the helmet  a screen boots up.

"Booting.....
Powercore... 100%
Muscle reflexers....not activated
activating muscle boosters."

Temporarily all of your body goes numb, After that you feel your muscles relaxing and becoming bigger. But this process continues for a good while and you feel that your muscles are gaining mass and becoming very large. You feel immensely strong and don’t feel the weight of the suit at all.

“Testing Siege Module”

Your suit activates it’s siege module and the suits part shift around, the stabilizers drop to the ground with a large thud and your vision inside your helm widens while gaining even more tactical information like wind speed, distance, and so on.

"Loading Suit Software.....
New AI added: Hawk
Selected current AI: Aurora
Finishing booting......
"

"Rhino suiting sequence, complete. Please grab a hold of the weapon provided and leave the chamber."

In the end you receive a gun, and not a puny gun. This thing is the size of a massive hand mortar, a regular human would by all rights never be able to lift this thing. Though you have no idea what it is until you grab it and lift it, like a feather.

Pick the mechanical suit Delta.
(-):

"Suit Delta selected, please remain calm and refrain from moving during the suiting process."

You happen to get a glance at one of the parts and see that there’s a coating of micro needles.

To your surprise the process wasn’t done yet. This time bigger arms emerge from the walls with armor plating, tools and modules. The armor has a slightly yellowish tint to it. The armor plates are all firmly attached to the exo skeleton and some parts are welded together. Amongst the welding and adding of armor you notice that there are actually small drones working on your suit as well, wiring the tools and modules to the power pack.

Slowly you feel the weight increasing and start wondering how you'll be able to move quickly. But this thought disappears when a helmet is slid over your head. On the terminal in the helmet  a screen boots up.

"Booting.....
Powercore... 100%
Muscle reflexers....not activated
activating muscle boosters."

Temporarily all of your body goes numb, just before you feel your muscles straining and relaxing. This makes you somehow feel stronger.

"Mind booster....not activated
activating mind booster."

Loading Drone Software....
New AI added: Dreiner
Selected current AI: Aurora
Finishing booting......
"

"Delta suiting sequence, complete. Please grab a hold of the weapon provided and leave the chamber."

In the end you receive a gun, a second one. You have no idea what kind of gun it is until you grab it, when suddenly your screen shows information about the gun.
