people who are actually gifted tend to underachieve because fuck getting ahead of the others it's a horrible bother and then you've got unrealistic expectations slapped on you as a label, and if you screw up just once you'll get an incredible amount of shit flying your way (and trust me, you will screw up)
Yup, I'm one of these "gifted" students. I could do pretty well if I applied myself the way other people do, but I'd much rather just coast at the level of everyone else. Because seriously,
fuck that. I don't want people to expect miracles from me. I don't want people to think I'm stupid or lazy, but I also don't want to be held up to some kinda level.
It's a fine balance, but I think I'm doing it well. The key is using words that are big enough other people wouldn't use them in conversation, but not so big they don't understand.
Also, letting test and quiz grades balance out the homework I don't do.
