I don't really mind voter ID. Most other democracies have it.

It can go wrong but then agaim so can everything else. Everyone calling it the next Jim Crow is just paranoid. By that logic everyone else is Jim Crow too.
Well you see most other democracies don't have a history of disenfranchising their voters based on race. It's a pattern, and a problem here.

Revision Phase 2

Quote from: More Stealthbolds
It's quite understandable that the stealthier Kobolds would make themselves scarce. Who would willingly stick around after all they've been through? Having managed to convince a handful of our good intentions, though, we can send them back out to persuade others to join the Bookbinders. Fellow kobolds may have an easier time explaining that the Bookbinders actually intend to pay them a fair wage for their expert services, and offer them a chance to get revenge on a world that has had it out for them for too long.
In this manner, it should hopefully become easier to recruit Stealthy Kobolds in larger numbers.

Difficulty: Normal
Roll: 5

The group of Kobolds was gathered in Rafal's office, the air bubbling with a gentle cheer. The kobolds in the room were primarily recruited from households, and were there for one key purpose - to find the others. Whispers had been circulating around the tunnels of their long-departed domestic comrades, and where they may have disappeared to. In search of more help, Rafal had called a meeting.

"So, who knows where your friends went to?"

No hands went up, and Rafal nodded quietly in understanding, "Sensible. Didn't want to put the others at risk. The question is, can you find them?"

The revised question gained more hands, and Rafal smiled gently. "Excellent! Everyone who wishes to join the search party should report to the armory for gear and a travel stipend. I recommend travelling in groups, the countryside isn't fully… equal yet."

The kobolds filed out with a quiet cheer as Rafal smiled over his wise investment.

Weeks later, the search parties (mostly) returned, with new recruits and news of others in tow. The only problem was that several of the Stealthbolds seem to be missing. Curiouser and curiouser.

-5 Stealthbolds - as you have none currently, the first 5 you buy will go missing

Stealthy Kobolds (B1/M0/8 Units): Stealthy former servants who weren’t quite fast enough to disappear, they don’t carry much. (BYOS)

Movement Phase

As before, you can now deploy squads to scout for Tale activity, defend locations, and plan 1 raid on a province.

Design Phase 2

Quote from: Hidebehinds
Frankly, Tales with impressive physical strength are far from rare. Indeed it is quite rare for Tales to not surpass ordinary humans in some capacity. The real problem, is that those Tales with great strength, tend to be somewhat flawed for our purposes. In the case of ogres and trolls, this is simply that they trend towards unintelligence and great size, unsuitable for our methods of traveling in secret and conducting small, precise raids. Oni are prideful, and can often be chased off by a variety of relatively simple rituals, in addition to the same weakness of size. Kappa are polite to a fault.

We had heard of a beast however, that does not have these weaknesses. Creatures called Hidebehind. Large beasts, almost impossible to track down for their impeccable ability to hide behind almost anything. Only the rare drunkard, dwarf, or magically inclined tale has ever truly lived to tell of encountering a Hidebehind, due to their aversion to alcohol and lack of any true(or at least active) magic or defenses against such. And even then, few could give any clear explanation of the creatures appearances. Hidebehind are incredibly elusive, to the point where even we have been unable to track the beasts down. Until recently.

You see, having the aid of Osakabehime’s messenger spirits, we have been able to span massive distances of forest with many eyes at once. And, when we cornered one of the beasts, petrified by so many eyes upon it at once, learned of the surprising intelligence of these creatures. For while it could not speak, it certainly understood.

Through this, we have made contact with the Hidebehinds, receiving aid, and learning much about them.

A Hidebehind is, in essence, a bear. In fact, you would be forgiven for mistaken it for one, and this is likely how they have largely escaped Bookbinder attention. For they can simply act as a bear when tracked down. While the abilities of a bear are impressive, let alone an intelligent one, that is far from all the Hidebehind have to offer us.

They are masters of stealth. Possessing the innate ability to move incredibly rapidly in order to escape line of sight, capable of hiding their bodies behind something not even half as large as themselves, and able to leave minimal tracks when needed, Hidebehind are a force to be reckoned with against smaller groups, or when assisting a larger force. For when you believe you may finally have the Hidebehind in your sights, it may in fact be right behind you.

Of course Hidebehind still have weaknesses, make no mistake, but theirs are far more manageable for our purposes. For one, while they may be bears in all but their supernatural abilities and intelligence, well, a bear cannot compare in strength to an Ogre, or a Troll, or many Oni. And they similarly cannot compete with magic.
Secondly, Alcohol is repulsive to them, while they will still gladly fight in its presence, the stench is liable to 'throw them off their game' if you will.
And finally, thirdly, Hidebehind are actually rather skittish. They detest being noticed, and so prefer to avoid large groups when acting as normal, and at all in places it would be conspicuous to find a regular bear. It is unlikely we will be able to convince our Hidebehinds to enter cities or even large villages without groups dedicated to causing suitable distractions nearby, and similarly, they will not fight against notably large enemy forces unless the enemies are themselves being matched by a large enough force of non-Hidebehind allies.
Difficulty: Normal
Roll: 4

In a quiet corner of the endless woods, there exists a small log cabin. Smoke drifts out of the stone chimney from a small hearthfire. The only windows are tightly curtained. A family of bears lives in the home; a mama bear, a papa bear, and their child. A delicate meal of garden vegetables and venison, roasted over the wood stove, graces the table.

A quiet knock on the door disturbs the meal. The papa bear silently walked to the door, and it slid open on well oiled hinges, to reveal a fine parchment on the ground, sealed by wax. The mama bear opened the seal, and spread the message out on the table as the father closed and barred the door.
A moment later, he spoke, his voice low and urgent. “We’ve been found.”

Mama bear stalked up to his side and put a paw on his shoulder. “Should we move?” she rumbled, pulling him close.

“No, this was someone we can’t hide from. And from the sound of it, we won’t be able to hide from Rafal, either.”

“So, what do we do?”

“We answer the call.”

Hidebehinds (B1/5 Units): Powerful and stealthy magical creatures, the hidebehinds hate the eyes of others on them, and prefer to work alone, but are deadly silent and strong as a bear.

Movement Phase

As before, you can deploy troops to three locations to scout out targets, before finalizing tactics for the Raid phase.

This lets us manufacture reactor fuel.
Care to explain? I'd said that Sink-Cola releases the absorbed radiation as heat.
And it also lets us prevent radiation poisoning.

Yeah, that's been going on for a long time.

For those not wanting to visit twitter, it's someone from Arkansas complaining about being lumped in with the rest of Arkansas in terms of wanting to enact sanctions against the state for passing a transphobic law.

I would note that when NC passed the infamous "bathroom bill", it was largely the sanctions imposed by business and other states that pushed them to revoke it. It does hurt everyone in the state, but it does have precedent in being effective.

On that note, can we please put GA under sanctions? For the election bill.

Project - Emergence

We've established ourselves as wholesome community supporters, and now it's time to cement our control. Working through the back channels, we will exert influence on all criminal organizations surrounding Madame Dragons, subtly turning them to our will and profit.

Research - The Demonumentinator

For too long, the saber rattlers and the so called kings of this world have desired to leave their mark on this world, and removing that mark is the start of their downfall. As such, we will harness recently disgraced mad physics professors to enable us to create a weapon capable of making monuments very easy to steal.

Vault 98 is less so a vault and moreso an artificial underground habitat contained in a natural cave. With a day/night cycle, multiple small islands within the larger cavern, and an abundance of fish and vegetation, the only thing vault 98 is missing is modern amenities, outside of one very small island with only room for three people...

He already has one. The development of Dwarf fortress and likewise the forums has always been funded by donations.
Yes, but the forums have always taken a backseat, for understandable reasons.

I do think if Toady wants to maintain the forums long term that he should establish a minor donation fund to cover the costs.
