DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Serious injuries in dwarves.

In one of my fell moods the dwarf went down one level and picked up someone resting in the hospital from injuries and made a bone table out of him.

Swimming is another one of those skills you probably dont want to forget. Getting killed by super weak fish just because you cant swim is just stupid.
You can train that, however. It's much safer in DF2014 if you climb out of the water instead of trying to swim out.

True, its pretty tedious though. Perhaps thats just me.

The only way to cross the sea is to swim. Good luck with that.

There are some really nasty fish in the sea, also if its an evil sea then pray you dont run into the bigger whales.

Its annoying that bandits seem to favor being completely unarmed and unarmored atm. You get missions to kill a criminal mastermind and bandit lord which has the country in terror and he turns out to be a dwarf with boots.

I rarely use crossbows or bows because Ive had terrible experiences with them in the past due to all the bugs involved.

I use highly specialized workers; the top 10% do 90% of the work. It's definitely risky, but is extremely efficient in terms of both time and materials. This also means I always have enormous piles of unemployed loiterers. So, since I never use traps, bridges, or moats, they all go into the militia. At least 50% of my total fort pop is military, usually more like 75%, and out of the military, it's split 50-50 into crossbows and melee. There tends to be a wide variety of equipment, and they're pretty smart about handing it out -- the squad leaders grab the best stuff first, and later recruits get the poorest gear.

Pretty much this for me too.   Dwarves that idle too long get drafted.  Even if I don't have equpment for them, they can join a wrestling group and play grab-ass until I have stuff for them to wear.

To be fair if you use two or three mechanics then you get traps as well. Make fifty wood cages and those traps will easily eat up all smaller invading forces by themselves.

Maybe its more due the age before becoming adult and skill in battle if they are equal in the entity file. That said it seems to be random to me who is successful (except kobolds who often end up dying out or only surviving in a corner somewhere).

You can't be a vampiric werecreature.

You can be a vampire and then a necro though, probably werecreature and then necro as well

DFhack has a "clean all" command, if you don't mind using that. You could also just drop water on it from above, which would probably make an ice floor over it.

I will admit to abusing that command, only because it sometimes heavily increases my fps.

There are some cheats posted here. Ive used them in the arena to test out stuff and they seem to work.

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/User:Vjek

Think there is a description in there somewhere how to use it.

If you still dont understand just copy paste the lua codes under the version you are playing and put each one in a separate notepad file in the lua folder in the hacks folder. Then just rename the file extensions to .lua instead. To use the codes in adventure mode you need to open your character screen and then type them in the dfhack console. There is a list of skill tokens in the dwarf fortress wiki for specific skills.

Cheating makes the game really boring though... the only one I sometimes use is butchering because getting food is boring.

I dont suffer from it myself, however you should post this in the bugs section (not in the forums, you can see a link to it at the main homepage). Preferably post it with a save they can load where this will happen for you.

There is no such thing as semiaquatic, its [AMPHIBIOUS].

I think you can make scales fireimmune as well just to give them something more than the normal leather.
