DF Suggestions / more challenging trading

Hey
In every fortress, after a year or two, trading becomes
1-too easy because I can buy every caravan 10 times with crates of trinkets
2-useless because i can produce everything easily on my own

Maybe you could make resourses scarcer in regions so trade and diplomacy with neighbors would take a more important partin building a fortress
and also either raise prices or lower the value of produced goods so I can t buy one steel anvil for 100 times it s price just to get rid of all the valuable goods that clutter my fortress.

Ah, yes premature capitalization or in the layman's terms: (King) coming too fast.

Well, as great and helpful slothen put it; since the requirements are something like 140 population and absurdly low amount of architecture wealth and offerings. So you don't send anything as an offering or this happens.

but dont i have to accept it ?
Isn t there a requirement like paved roads ... ?

Hey
Two month After having told the outpost liaison i wanted to keeP my distance with montainhome, the KING shows up...
I was planning a whole underground fortress, i was hoping to build a mega project and having the king arive would be my reward and instead he shows up in my dump while i don t even have a baron and havent even pierced the first cavern. it was very disapointing and it s the second time it happened to me ...
Any advise on how to avoid this ?

Hey,
I ve built my fortress next to a tower which means i get zombie sieges .
After each battle, i am left with either cages full of zombies or dead bodies on the battlefield.
I m having a problem with both those things:
I mark the dead bodies to be dumped but my dwarf wont go pick the up
And the dwarven caged zombies cannont be dumped in a pit.
Because of this i am left with 40 cages zombies that i cant dump so 40 useless cages and each time a necromqncer enters the map all the dead bodies come back to life.
How do i get rid of these bodies ?

Iron shoul be better than Steel because of the weight but steel is a better metal so i m not sure

Hi,

There are a few tools that i ve found absolutly no use for although they really sound like they do and it s bugging me.
I ve purchased a cauldron in fortress mode and none of my dwarf seems to be using it...
Also meat cleaver, fork...
I ve tried to put them next to my butcher and kitchen with no result.

Can anyone enlighten me ?

New disign once again not tested.
It should help not having another dwarf following the first one and falling through the hatches and also give for fluidity to the mechanism

1- the dwarf hauling the food to the stock pile passes the door steps on the pressure plate which locks the door (or any other mechanism preventing another dwarf from following him and falling through the hatch)
2- the dwarf passes position one and sees the goblin. In this position the goblin is now above and behind the dwarf so the the dwarf should drop the food on the haches and flee forward
3- the dwarf steps on the plate opening the hatches
4-the dwarf's only exit is now through the restricted pass area so he will take it (while other dwarfs wont prefering the other pass over this one)

I dont know if the door is necessary. I dont know the pass finding algorythm but if a dwarf in a 1 tile wide hallway prevents passing (in a pass calculating sense) the door at the beggining isnt needed.

the restricted area should work if another pass is open so there should be 5 or 6 entry ways for 1 exit.
Limiting the number of dwarf hauling should help also.

Once again, I havent tested anything (damn exams...) but i think we are on to something.

I think I ve found the solution. I haven t tested it yet but i don t see why it wouldn t work

g goblin
G window or grate or whatever lets the dwarf see the goblin
p pressure plate

1)the dwarf comes to store the food in the stock pile,
2)steps on the pressure plate
3)sees the goblin
4)the food hauling task is canceled, the dwarf drops the food on the hatch and flees
5)the floor hatch opens (good pressure plate/mechanism timing is needed)
6)the food drops on the stock pile below

multiple hallways might be used to increase the droping frequency.

there might me some task canceled message spam but it should work.

I wish I had time to test it but dont... please let me know what you more experienced players think about it

Hey,
I know i m supposed to look for iron ore in sedimentary layers bla bla bla... but i have never found any on any map without setting the mineral frequency to frequent.
I always take embark spots with lots of shallow and deep metals but only find tetrahedrite...
Am i not looking enough ?
Is frequent to find iron ore on the maps ?
Have i been just amazingly unlucky ?
