Yeah, our best hope as far as multiplayer (RT multiplayer that is) would be Toady at least coding some support for it and some ambitious modder builds on that. Otherwise, dfterm is likely the best you can get to, which hardly qualifies as multiplayer, more co-op than anything, which could also be achieved with succession-forts (in a sense)

let's face it, dwarves will eat anything that isn't sentient, so it's kind of odd they get fussy about old animals/animals killed by invaders.

That's only tamed animals belonging to your fort. Wild animals or tame creatures belonging to other civs (caravan pullers, for example) will still be butchered on death, regardless of why they died. One exception is that tamed creatures that are flagged for butchering at the time of their death will be butchered, regardless of how they died.

Wait, what? Are you saying that we could butcher tamed animals that belong to the fort (and die of old age) by locking them in a room where the butcher can't get to them, and then designating them for being butchered? As long as we don't get job cancellation spam, this could be useful.

Yeah but don't animals lose weight if they starve to death and give less when butchered? unless it's a pasture, in which case you'd have to wait till they died of old age, and with animal like cows for example, you might be waiting for a while

Your parents cleaned up after themselves, so can you.

Give her some credit, no one wants to haul around a hippie elf.

Benefits of atom-smasher is that if there is a necromancer, it will destroy all remains and nothing to revive.

Killing them with a crossbow will not work if there is a necromancer, but cages are a universal solution.

And don't think of a atomsmasher as cheating :P Think of it as a giant bridge smashing anything under it... into oblivion...

...new Fortress site (somehow I seldom rule one place for too long)...

...first year, everything is going fine, I started making some wooden shields and told my smith to make several copper picks...

...then the Giant Kea came.

So - first I told my military dwarf to grab equipment (masterwork wooden shield and copper helmet and spear)... the Giant Kea decided to be bit more bold after I did that and got closer to my dwarves - it killed one dwarf... what a coincidence! It was my military dwarf running for gear!

Then I decided to draft another dwarf. He grabbed a shield and decided rest of equipment can wait - and started hauling a barrel somewhere. Then the kea stole another masterwork shield, my carpenter got angry because his masterpiece was lost and killed mayor in subsequent meeting, which started a tantrum spiral... seriously... 10 dwarves and I abandon it because tantrum spiral, that's surreal. :-\

Dwarf Therapist reads 38 dwarves, but I only have 17 living. Granted, one ghost, but that doesn't explain the additional 20 unexisting population.

Edit: Scratch that, they were migrants. For whatever reason, they didn't show up immediately on the DF unit screen, but they did on DT.

Are you playing the most recent version? I know in the older versions alcohol required water to make or something, and the freezing would muck things up (probably.)

Unfortunately I can't share the results because the entire fort fell to a gobbie siege soon after.  90 dwarves down the drain. Of course, I was also experimenting with the sacrificial pit and occult shrine and that led to !!FUN!!

I found the razorback's corpse lying somewhere. Owl is still MIA.
