DF Gameplay Questions / Remove Noble Status with dfhack?
« on: December 23, 2023, 07:22:16 pm »
I'm getting too many nobles appointed in my by now 100 dwarf fort. I have 8-10 Barons and one count already without even promoting anything myself and they are getting more and more.
Just wanted to know if there is a way to remove the nobility status from a dwarf, making them a normal dirty peasant again, maybe with dfhack. I don't want to kill them because some have a grandmaster skill in important professions.

DF Gameplay Questions / Check visitors before approve petition to stay
« on: October 21, 2022, 07:16:52 am »
In the petitions screen when you press P it only says for example "The warm Ivy wishes to reside in ..." i can not find this name, no hint anywhere.
Not ingame when i look through all visitors in the list, not in Dwarf Therapist in the tooltip. Who is this warm Ivy? Is it a fat 80 year old human or a beautiful female elf dancer? I really need to know this before i approve petitions.
How can i find out?

Edith: Nevermind i think i simply confused a petition for a Guild with a person.

(removed a religion fight derail, and an unnecessary personal attack; please try to remain within the guidelines)

Now that's great ... i hope he could at least read it before the censoring because nobody else here or anywhere will ever tell him this harsh "unnecessary" truth, that's for sure.

I had a depression many years, found Jesus Christ and started reading the Bible. Doesn't cure everything magically but let's you know why everything is so shitty on this planet. Puts everything into perspective and let's you know what's really important.
It also shows you that you are part of the problem yourself but there is a way into something better in the end at least, reachable not by our own but very easily, by Faith in God and his doing on the Cross. Still too much for most people especially in our day and age and in Europe. I'm German/Austrian myself.
I can just recommend to you the short 7min video "The Bible Way to Heaven" by sanderson1611 on Youtube, it is the best synopsis of the basic biblical message i ever saw. Just my tip and maybe something to consider looking into next time when dark hours with stupid thoughts come up.

Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice

They most probably ate a fooditem made from mossrova parts, you have to go through your foodstorage and sort out and forbid any drink or food with mossrova in it.

Masterwork DF / Re: Update 1.20 - The MEPH! tileset - 32x32

I noticed that priority numbers for designations don't show up and leave a black tile instead.
As a margin note i think the colors (e.g. for the grass) are too dark... i had to change color regulation on pc screen to see properly.

P.S.
in the dfhack laborsheet it is impossible to see if a work is assigned or not

The number is actually there but it's very dark. If you use a brighter color sheme they are more visible but still not very good.

What i miss are colored mincarts, tracks and trackstops (they are simply black) same for bins which are also simply black squares and maybe that pots seem to look more like a bed.
Also Cinnabar and Hematite ore look nearly identical and are really hard to differentiate.

I think there is not much you can do. That's a problem with this version i also made countless worlds and settle inbetween where the highest density of invader races was on the map, looking it up with legends viewer, often multible civs not more than less then 5 tiles aways on the embark screen map.
Rarly one or two thiefs and also only in the beginning and if finally a siege shows up after 4 years then it consist out of 5 people. The only thing which comes reliable are the Undead from towers but they kill the fps completely with all their hundreds of bodyparts crawling around so i always exterminate them dfhack before.
Wealth, trade and making generous presents to caravans also doesn't seem to help much.

If i try to use the "startdwarf" script in dfhack before embark.

E: RuntimeError: ./hack/scripts/startdwarf.rb:15: too low
 ./hack/scripts/startdwarf.rb:15
 (eval):5:in `load'
 (eval):5
 (eval):5:in `catch'
 (eval):5

I also tryed the "dwarves" script which seems to do the same, also doesn't work, but doesn't bring an errormessage either.

Homosexual animals, come on? Just because a dog mounts my leg and everything else it doesn't mean he has a foot fetish. He is doing that because he is a horny, stupid animal. He will as well mount his female counterpart with joy.
Not sure if this is meant to be a joke or not, but homosexuality is actually quite prevalent among some species (most giraffe sex is homosexual, dolphins are quite promiscuous, and most bonobo social interaction, regardless of gender, is sexual). Admittedly, a blanket probability across all species isn't wholly accurate, but nor is the characterization that homosexuality doesn't occur.

I think you didn't really understand what i actually wrote, i didn't claim it doesn't occur and you can be promiscuous without beeing homosexual.

I already chopped down trees on this map but suddenly they refuse to do it with the announcement "Cancel fell Tree: Could not find path". First i thought it's only caverns but it's everywere on the map.
Everything else is working like mining or gathering webs but they won't touch the tree nearby.
Maybe someone has an idea, something i overlook?

Edith: Resolved! Was a problem with autochop which designated all trees on the map.

I miss the fort beautification factor a little bit like chandeliers, fireplaces, plant pots and other placeable stuff? Will they have a come back sometime or is it still somewhere hiding in the game and i'm just blind.

Is there any way to push the goblins a little bit in the world generation maybe anything in the raws? In my worlds they are always near extinction. But i don't want to change something like babysnatching that's to essential for me.
I tried countless worlds with different settings and set their BANDITRY to 10 but nothing seems to work. I never get a strong goblin civilisation, best is around 1000 goblins. Best i got was 1600 but every other important civ had at least 5000+.

Edit: As i wrote this i designed a world with a 6000 golblin civ. I didn't change anything new but it needed more than 30 attempts rather more.

I somewhere read that agility is the most important skill for dwarfs in combat but what i saw it is hard to train but strengh is going up pretty good during sparring and weapon skill is also ok. So i wonder if it is a good idea to prefer westler dwarfs for my melee squads?
