Other Games / Haven and Hearth
« on: May 28, 2009, 11:48:37 pm »
Just saw this posted on TigSource, and was immediately mesmerized. It is an MMORPG that takes several aspects of things like DF and Wurm and others and forms them into a accessible form http://www.havenandhearth.com/portal/

Features so far seem to include buildings, mining, farming, and more, as well as the obligatory killing wildlife all MMOs have

A map to the current Bay12 settlements. Note that the lower settlement is quite dangerous to travel to for a beginner.
Brodgar is where a new character is spawned

The blue circle is the newbie settlement and is relatively safe to hang around. The red circle to the south is where the main settlement is. The yellow circle is a stopover house along the way there.

Curses / Re-integration

Just having a thought about LCS members who may be recruited by accident or by means not intended - such as some people who will be able to become sleepers after being kidnapped, and those who do not have the option. There should probably be a system by which someone could be cut loose or made into a sleeper if their status is not known - perhaps with a small chance of being found by the police at a later point.A clear-cut way of getting rid of superfluous liberals needs to be found, at any rate. Any other ideas? I don't feel very liberal sending these guys to fight the police unarmed just to get them to leave

Other Games / Gratuitous Space Battles!
« on: May 01, 2009, 01:43:20 am »
Just saw a trailer that totally made me salivate with the scale and detail of it's space combat model. Check it out! The video is impressive. http://positech.co.uk/gratuitousspacebattles/

The description speaks for itself: Gratuitous Space Battles aims to bring the over-the-top explodiness back into space games. The game is for everyone who has watched big space armadas battle it out on TV and thought to themselves 'I could have done a much better job as admiral'. This is not a game of real-time arcade twitch reflexes. GSB is about what ships you design, and what you tell them to do. Your individual ship commanders have total autonomy during the chaotic battle that unfolds. This is not a tactical game, it is a strategic one. These gratuitous space battles are not won by plucky heroes with perfect teeth, but by the geeky starship builders who know exactly what ratio of plasma-cannons to engines each ship in the fleet will need.

Other Games / Stalker early build released for free
« on: March 05, 2009, 01:43:29 pm »
GSC Game World have released  2004 build of their game Stalker for free on their FTP site. This is noteworthy most because it is a much bigger and more free roaming game than was originally released - albeit incomplete and buggy. Check it out though, well worth it! http://gsc-game.com/index.php?t=community&s=forums&s_game_type=xr&thm_page=1&thm_id=17037&sec_id=16&offset=0

So why check this out? The FAQ explains what's cool:
The build contains a set of features that did not make it into the final release. There is a fairly nice static lighting renderer, several locations not present in the release, a fully functional A-Life system, and some cut monsters, transportation, and many other things. The build is unstable and will not replace the final game, but it is definitely worth taking a look at.

Other Games / Hired Guns

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/jazzhiredguns/download_6177724.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=files&tag=files;title;1 Just started downloading the full free demo of this (the not-full demo is linked there). No official reviews up yet but the user reviews are primarily positive. Thought this would tickle the fancy of some of you here, as it's a knock off of Jagged Alliance. I'm at least giving it ye olde try.
