All indications is that it's going to be Bioshock with Aliens. I mean, there's no mention of squad-based action, in fact it's heavily implied you're some lone FBI agent in the press release. Lame.

We're in dire straits when we're excited to play an unfinished rendition of XCOM because we can't afford to send 2KGames $5.

Especially when you get awesome sale prices, like $10 for /the entire series/ occasionally on Steam. Misguided spinoffs included.

wait, what happened to GH?
Bought out by Google several years ago, ravaged, and turned into an ad-injecting "search" site.

It sucks too, since that site had some good games, many of which I've been unable to locate anywhere else. I've found a clone site of it, but it's pretty terrible, with a limited number of mostly crappy games on it.
There is a free version of Homeworld out there I know. It's in the opensource community
WHERE?

Hmm, my bad it seems that it's just the engine that's free (and being ported to SDL by the OS community). Content is still not.

I know that www.caiman.us has a good selection of freewares, about as good as what Gamehippo used to be(and a damn shame what happened to GH). The site hasn't been updated since last Christmas, due to the guy who owns it dying.

ooh, they released Spirit Engine 2. if it's anything like the prequel* it will have my highest recommendations (you'll like it,  if you like  jRPGs, though it's not exactly that). *downloading now*

* Spirit Engine 1 was freeware and as you can guess shares the recommendation.
I saw Homeworld on that site and nearly shat a brick. I clicked a link and it sent me to Amazon.com that showed Homeworld for almost $140, and nearly shat another brick.

This site is games that are legally available free that were not in the past. IE the companies themselves have released the licenses

It's not the playerbase that gets to me really, so much as random failure at mundane, non-PvP tasks and the lack of progression I'm seeing from my grinding. Of course I was a bit grumpy when I made my last post because I hadn't taken my meds for the day

Final Fantasy X

Seriously look at this guy:

Meh remembered why I got sick of it rather quickly. For some reason I cannot stand the dying bit, and I'm not really finding any direction or goals to shoot for that I can actually achieve without megagrind. So probably dropping it again.

There's also a certain charm and humor to the game that just hits me the right way. (Loading scree humor, Cthulhu references, that sort of thing)
Fun fact, the guy who voices the character in-game is Toren Atkinson, lead singer-songwriter of Lovecraft rock group The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets and major gaming nerd. The Thickets also did the music that plays at the main menu

Decided to give it another go at the behest of some friends. Handling it much better now, dunno why I didn't manage to get into it before. name is Athame

This is a bit of an odd request, I don't know why I'm even requesting it really. I think it's been so many years of playing an unstoppable badass in all games, but uh...

Can you be mundane?

I mean like, can you do stuff like become a merchant, a farmer, or a pick pocket, or some other equally boring job?

Armageddon has a complete absence of unstoppable badasses. Do not expect a first character to survive their first day in-game.

DF General Discussion / Re: Sweetbread
« on: April 08, 2010, 03:30:49 pm »
Even with this information, I still like to imagine "cat sweetbread" as two slices of bread with a kitten in between them.

Fights off hunger and easily carried by patrolling troops.

In fact sandwich making should be a job, just like cheese making, and it should be moodable.

"This is Kittenboots, a cat sandwich.  All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is made from Stray Cat (Tame) and encircled with bands of sliced bread.  It menaces with spikes of prepared kitten intestines.  On the item is an image of goblins, dwarves, and cats in dog tripe.  The goblins are making a plaintive gesture.  The dwarves are laughing.  The cats are burning."

Other Games / Re: Bioware Are Talentless Hacks
« on: April 08, 2010, 11:21:24 am »
I've never been very fond of Bioware games.  Maybe I'm weird, but I honestly never understood the big draw to KOTOR, NWN2, Mass Effect, or Dragon Age.  To me they seem like the western equivalent of Final Fantasy with railroaded plots, endlessly scripted cut-scenes, and invisible walls everywhere.  If I want to be railroaded, I'll stick to JRPGs.

I really tried to like Dragon Age.  I fought off boredom for the first 10 hours thinking that it would suddenly get better, but I finally realized that it wouldn't, so I quit.

Now Black Isle was awesome, I wish those guys were still around making games.  Those games really felt like a true conversion of P&P games to the computer.

Ironically you mentioned NWN2, which was made almost entirely by ex-Black Isle staff at Obsidian Entertainment :P
