Other Games / Re: So EA is suing Zynga over the Ville
« on: August 03, 2012, 04:07:04 pm »
Not going to congratulate EA, but I'll join the general consensus here.

never heard of zyngia.

who the hell are those guys?
The farmville people. Basically the [insert large publisher here] of casual/facebook games.
Yah, they're like EA but worse in the field of 'social' games. EA at least doesn't find every game with any player base and then /directly/ clone every aspect of it.

The commentary is badly recorded as are the videos (Really, who wants an FPS counter/speed percentage on screen? You can EASILY disable those). But I do love this translation, think I may have played this at some point even.

I kinda find this tasteless and disrespectful to real mental illness.

The problem is that they requested community funds to make a game, then diverted much of that to other efforts and now have their hand out again while never delivering anything except a business plan. I wish them luck, but more than that I hope they eventually come through for the people that trusted them enough to support the GAME they told us they were making.
From what I've heard it was quite playable way back at PAX East and they still plan to deliver it by the end of the summer as originally stated. The extra PC stuff comes after that.

The animations are adorable in some strange way, even in grisly death. The way they move so vibrantly feels reminiscent of LucasArts adventure games or something, but tiny.

Bohemia won't ever get out of the tac-sim business because that's really their bread and butter /outside of gaming/. They make more money selling military training sims to world governments than they have ever made off videogaming, it's side business leveraging their existing tech.

They're also scaling up the art and doing a whole new UI and stuff. But yeah, it is mainly a preordery thing to ensure there's enough people who want it on computer platforms to justify the time.

Creative Projects / Re: So I'm trying to get into voice acting...

http://furubadrama.weebly.com/auditionsextras.html This project is a fairly well done manga adaptation radio drama that is always taking auditions for minor roles in upcoming episodes. There's a male role up there right now. JesuOtaku's a very nice lady so I'd pitch to her. The roles available change regularly. Of course there are probably plenty of other little projects out there that have similar stuff this is just one I know off the top of my head.

As for the demo clips, your equipment/setup could definitely be a bit better. Levels seem off (clipping and peaking) and there's some definite background noise.  I'd invest in a quality mic and take the time to master the settings for whatever you record audio in, limiting the audio peaking and such.

Cannot stress enough how important pop filters are!

Not out yet (will it ever be?) but the game previously known as Conlan's Claim at least SOUNDS like it will be cool. They apperently are finally going to be working on it full time as they got a development grant to pay their wages. http://unclaimedworld-game.com

The android ports of Roguelikes never really do it for me, it's really hard to control a straight ported game like nethack/angband. Better to get something designed for mobile like Dweller. Wish someone would take the time to port Powder over.

Glad to see some journalist-types taking the more cautious side.

Quote from: PA Report
So not only is there no finished hardware, no service at the moment, no controller, and no games—although we’re being asked to take their word that they can create each of those things in eight months—but focusing development costs on an incredibly risky platform with a small installed base and features that make piracy all but given makes no sense for most developers who release games you’d like to play. It’s an environment that makes little sense for commercial development, in many ways it’s actively hostile to people hoping to create games for it.

That's not too bad. What bard songs do you have?

I think all the ones I should have by that point. I'm too lazy to open my emulator now. But it isn't great fun - my healing is basically non-existent besides regen which frankly sucks in this game, so I'm stick with items.

Having a hell of a time with ExDeath on World 2, I'm afraid to go back to my game because of how much grinding it will need to get by. Monk/Time Mage/Bard/Dragoon :/

The Raspberry Pi takes more work to get operational how you want it. The console appeal is having it ready to play out of the box.

Which is something I don't think appeals to the Linux crowd. Like at all. They like building their own distros and hacking everything from bootloader up.

Console gaming is very differentiated from PC gaming. I think that OUYA combines the console and Linux mindsets. Raspberry Pi is a PC thing.

There's barely a difference. What makes Raspberry Pi that much different from an OUYA except the included gamepad? You could even probably get Android running on there and suddenly they are the same device.
