Just browsing my assorted torrent sites, I discovered Genso Suikoden 1 and 2 - that is, a game that includes Suikoden 1 and 2 remastered for PSP. Can't wait for an english release :D

+1 for PSP here, a few of it's virtures:

Great modding/homebrew community. I use it, in addition to gaming, as a comic book reader while in bed for comics scan files, an instant messenging device (so I don't have to spend money using my phone's costly MSN client), a Skype phone (requires special headset) for my long distance calls, and more :> I also use it to soothe me to sleep with the internet radio functions built in. Emulation side you have everything from the earliest game consoles and PCs up to PS1 and N64 fully emulated. Especially digging the GBA Emulator as it lets me play Mother 3 translation on the go

Games wise there's plenty if you're willing to look around a bit. I personally highly recommend:

God of War: Chains of Olympus (simple, awesome beat em up very similar to the PS2 games in the series)
Lumines (Addictive musical puzzle goodness)
FFT: The Lion Wars (beautified, re-translated to REAL english and with added art and animation to make things less boring remake of FF Tactics)
Jeanne D'Arc (a unique and awesome strategy RPG)
Disgaea (direct port of the PS2 game, voice acting and all included  plus new bonus modes thrown in)
Patapon (an indescribably fun  game that can only be described as a Rhythm game slash Real Time Strategy game)
Monster Hunter series can be great fun especially online, killing wild beasts and scavenging the corpses for supplies!
Star Ocean 1 and (soon) 2 have some excellent remakes on PSP

Perhaps of most interest to DF fans is Dungeon Maker, which has a combination of hack-and-slash random dungeon crawl while adding on rooms to attract more and better monsters, which has a lot of depth.

Ultimately it's your taste in games that matters most.

3 DLC packs also in the works,

I expect these will be for sale, as with Oblivion, rather than for free, as with Morrowind (which already suffered from expansion pack fever).  Bethesda seems to have gotten more mercenary over the past few years.

You mean like every other game company. They're a business, and it costs them money to make the DLC since most employees like being able to eat..

SDK is officially scheduled, called the GECK. Imagine it'll be quite similar to the Elder Scrolls modding tools.

3 DLC packs also in the works, one about the liberation of Anchorage Alaska from the Chinese, another set in Pittsburgh, and another starring the BOS

If you need anyone with professional QA test experience I'm your dorf! I've also been involved in alpha-level testing of other browser games (my friend developed two such games for his site, alteringtime.com)

I actually played a very fine english visual novel recently called Masq. It's very well written and PC Gamer put it in their top 100 games of all time. Give it a google and you can get it legit for free (for 10 playthroughs)

erepublik seems WAY too slow paced to hold my interest for long sadly. Nothing interesting really seems to happen on a day-to-day basis.

http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/fallout This is an awesome place to get Fallout for anyone who doesn't have a copy now btw, DRM-free downloadable version optimized for XP and Vista, and including a buttload of extras (concept art, wallpapers, manual, the Fallout Bible, soundtrack CD, etc) all for like $6.  Very nice :D

Sims 3 looks a lot more interesting - open world rather than having to load between lots, much more freedom to it.

Interestingly, in the first interview with the dev team, they noted Dwarf Fortress as an influence, among a few others.

Zombie Panic wasn't released by Valve AFAIK, it's just promoted on Steam now as one of the more popular and polished mods around. Left4Dead has only one similarity to zombie panic and that is the presence of zombies, hardly a novel and awes inspiringly unique thing :P

Good demo, it actually includes 2 levels from one of the campaigns. Lots of tension, especially if you're stuck with the dumbass AI teammates (they're having issues with the multiplayer servers at the moment)

Jake, a lot of what you mention is addressed in the actual game.
