I compiled and ran DT on kubuntu windows, but there are some problems:
1) I can't click to toggle labors. I can however right click to get a menu to toggle the whole group.
(solved)
2) I can't change the nicknames of dwarves.

I know these things work on the windows version. Anybody have any clue what's up?

I got DT running on ubuntu, and no, there is no nickname option.  Bug or unimplemented, I don't know.

I embarked with an anvil and casserite and malachite, to make bronze picks.  So... no, no picks.

If only I could have constructed a dredge line out of rope reed and feather wood.  Maybe I could have fished my anvil out.

Well that's the thing, he's got 8 skills at 1, and one skill, ambusher, at 2.

I've decided it's the expedition leader thing that's causing it.

I just embarked, and everything is covered in snow.  So I start building and spring comes everything melts.

Now all my supplies are at the bottom of a murky pool.  Turns out my wagon was parked on top of a frozen pond.  Woops.

I've gotten free gear before, but my current embark I'm not getting it.

One dwarf with 1 point in all 5 medical skills, JoI, appraise, crossbowman, and 2 points in ambusher.

Tried it twice with two different dwarf civs, and gotten no gear.

Is it because his profession is listed as expedition leader instead of hunter?

I had a squad of legendary swordmasters and gave them masterwork obsidian swords and during the next siege looked at the logs.

Every fight was 4 pages of "mastersworddude hits gobbo in the head.  copper helm deflects it."
I think they would do better if swordmasters didn't get headshots 95% of the time.

I've personally given up on obsidian swords for anything but flavor after that fight.

I read somewhere that creatures can dodge up a Z level and get stuck on walls.  So far in my current fort I've found a dwarf, an alpaca, and a puppy on the walls of my inner keep.

It lists what every symbol can mean for Curses (code page 1252)

I often get the "...cancels pick up equipment: Equipment mismatch".  And I don't put miners/choppers/hunters in the military.  I think it has something to do with everyone having armor and new better armor getting produced and they are playing the "everyone switch armor" game.

Doing a succession fort with two other guys, and it turns out they both use arrow keys instead of numpad.  I'm wondering if I'm a freak for using numpad.

Plus I can't sleep.

Edit:  Finally fell asleep and slept like 11 hours.  Plus I have ham.  So it's all good.
Have some more options.  Vote reset to make someone happy, and someone else unhappy, and stuff.  Ham!

Haven't tested it, but I'm pretty sure the up stair construction has an invisible floor construction included.

If I'm wrong, you could try a constructed ramp instead.  Good luck!

Side Note:  I guess to test it, you could pit something over a constructed up stair to see if it falls through.  Bonus points for how adorable the creature pitted it.

I've tried Curses (ascii), Ironhand, and Phoebus.

Phoebus was more curved than Ironhand, Ironhand more square.  And they both made the medical dwarf look like a little Pope for some reason.

I've stuck with Curses because it's more compact than the 16x16 tilesets, so I can get more tiles on the screen.  If you had better eyes than me, and a bigger monitor, that might not be an issue for you.

Seriously though, I thought I had a religious leader when I saw Mini-Pope.  Mini-Pope for Mayor!

(b) (C)onstruct an up or down stair over the current up/down.

You can turn off clay by (b)locking all, then (p)ermitting what you want.

You can turn on clay by (a)llowing all, then (f)orbiding everything else

In other words, the option is there, just not selectable.  You can change it with (a)llow/(b)lock all.
