Well, I just ran into the most evil spot ever. Alter to Makhleb on lvl 3 surrounded by demons and lava. This could be interesting.

Edit: Actually, they can't touch me. YAY free experince sending imps in to kill them.

If you want help remembering it, shift-1 lets you put a note on the level that pops up when you come back.

Remember where it is and dive another level or two elsewhere. There are ALOT of orcs down there and its fairly open.

Claws and teeth can be used as arbalest and slingshot ammo. Claws can also be used to make clawspears, which inflict bleed on any creature they hit. Thus one spear can kill a lion or raptor easy.

Don't feel bad. Giant bats are perhaps the most annoying enemy on the first 3 levels.

Hill orcs can eat rotten food since they are sapovores. Mummies don't eat, ghouls prefer rotting meat and get health from it, vampire's drink blood and leave skeletons which can be raised through either necromancy or through Yredelemnul first rank ability. Spriggans have an extremely slow metabolism but can't eat meat, so early spriggan fighter types can go for extremely long periods between eating. They are also very fast and stealthy. Trolls can also eat rotten meat, but they get hungry three times as fast as other races.

Overall, mummies make easy to use spellcasters since they require no food for casting or abilities, vampires can't starve and their bonuses slide back and forth depending on hunger levels, and spriggans are easy to use fighters early.

I have to agree with Fenrir. Once you get everything built, your done. The lack of win conditions, even insanely hard ones, limits enjoyment once you get everything built. Thought I suppose raising an army of monkeys and raptors might be worthwhile.

Save it, and post it in the bugs forum and upload the save to the Dwarf Fortress File Depot. After you upload the save and back it up on your own computer by copying it to somewhere else, run it and see what happens.

Or you could put goblins underneath the entrance, with hatch covers attached to a lever to open them up to the entrance way and scare the dwarves back from the entrance while letting the military through, Marksdwarves will kill them though.

I think the undead invasion was eliminated long before the switch to 3d. IMHO, the only version other then the most advanced that is worthwhile is the last 2D version. Forget which one that is though. 2D had more direction then the 3D version but far fewer features and openness to it.

So my latest character came across a serious snag in his delve. The ecumencal temple is surrounded by translucent rock walls. Time to try out the scrolls to see if any could help get through so I can get my pray on.

You can't build gardens? I know there is one building that attracts a butterfly a day.

Mahkleb gives both on kills. However lets face, healing for kills only helps speed you up, doesn't really increase survival early on until you hit massive hordes. Sif Muna allows you to spam health stealing spells during combat. However looking at Mahkleb's abilities, his second one allows mummies to spam an attack spell with no cost. Hmm. This bears investigation.

Edit: Mahkleb's beam attack requires MP to use. Still, for a non caster mummy its a decent ranged attack.

Then you should have found a lockpick. If you did, go for a walk on the beach and the answer should come to you.
