The thought of beating a man with his own severed codpiece just... *thinks of something worse*

The spinning giant groin strikes the giant in the chest!
It is mangled!
The giant's heart has been pierced!

Augh, my mind's eye! It buuurns!

Gnawed, rusted, partially melted, infested, frayed, haggard, jaded, shabby...

@ Armok: Mangled is already in there, and spliced suggests the item was genetically engineered.

I like this idea, but AlanL is right, these types of superficial touches are best left near the end.

Don't forget this could be used for positive things too!
"This is a *adamentine long sword*. It is honed. It is serrated."

Turgid has been miserable lately.
His beard has been burnt off recently....

You dont have too jump a chasm you could jump up, or down or to grab a ledge, or to grab a tree to climb up and escape the elephants.

DF Suggestions / Re: Bins used in hauling
« on: October 01, 2007, 05:20:00 pm »
That's an excellent idea!
It'd take a bit of changing from the current AI to empty a full trash bin instead of simply bringing the trash to the next closest one, but if you follow Mickel's strategy, that's not even a problem!

I think this should be done automatically with a refuse pile, and could be very useful for keeping collections of bones and shells in nice, neat stocks, too.

I already do this with spear traps and a little imagination!
I'm one step ahead!

Maybe it should be a selectable from the medical overview screen?
Highlight a dwarf and select "amputate mangled limbs"

Mistem, Countess was taken by a strange mood!
*Runs into bedroom*
Mistem has claimed a workshop.
*Count also walks in*
Mistem begins a mysterious construction...

I say have multiple smaller pits that are coated with adamentine, instead of one pit large with smaller ones hanging around and a huge outcropping of adamentine. It would make more logical sense. Just my opinion though.

Edit: Fixed sleepy logic...

DF Suggestions / Re: Newbie Mode

If you were going to make something like this, the base would need a few practice flaws for newbies to learn from.

- Make the base with 1 width hallways, but can be dug out to a more suitable width without ruining anything.

- Leave a few bedrooms on the end unfinished, and let the living quarters be positioned somewhere very expandable.

- Have lots of prepared food and drink, but leave little meat and plants. (perhaps stockpile meat and plants right next to their associated workshops. Meat between Butcher and Kitchen. Plants between field, brewery, and kitchen.)

- Make a meeting hall with statues and two pools, but leave a few statues out and leave one pool a pit with a bucket nearby.

I'm sure there is lots more that could be half-done or displayed for simplicity.

Of all things, attempting to figure out the controls on the DS... or having to fit all the controls in -especially with the upcoming upgrade- scares me to the point where I'd piddle.
Trying to bandbox particulate hallsizes while scrolling using a touch screen? Gah.
Trying to get rid of all the hauling jobs on my workers? Gah!
Trying to control the army? AHHHH!

I agree, and think that this will nearly be mandatory once the army arc is underway. Spending two years trying to set your legion up properly before sending it away is going to get really, really frustrating.

That's a good point.
You would think that leather would come in grades, like metals.
A tunic made of kittens should not be as sturdy as a hippo or the like. Unless it was a really... thick kitten. o.O
