Other Games / Re: Fallout 4: It Just Works

There really needs to be a settlement between Hangman's Alley and Jamaica Plains. The hike between the two is straight through central Boston and it's a nightmare on Survival mode. Gunners, Raiders, Ghouls, Super Mutants and more all waiting to pop out and send me back to my bed.

I think Boston Common would be a great spot for a settlement. Just clear Swan and it's got everything you could want!

There's a mod that adds a settlement called Evan's Way, near that raider outpost close to Diamond City in the cul-de-sac. It's packaged in a pretty cool collection of added settlements now.

If you play Pillars, make sure you complete Durance's quests! You might not want to, because he comes off as a complete jerk, just understand he's been thoroughly broken. Don't want to spoil anything, but completing his quests will definitely help you understand the gods a bit better.

Almost none and only using ~400MB of ram! The new versions work really well with shaders and HD resource packs, plus it's vanilla Minecraft so no performance eating mods.

Woops I guess I better clear out of my current location I figured it was okay since there was nobody nearby.

Currently checking out the base, it looks pretty cool! Not really getting a Rapture vibe yet, it seems more like a Enclave sea rig. I don't know what to do so I'm strip mining to the north.

Good job you guys, it looks pretty cool

Thanks! Changing PRINT_MODE totally worked. Already on my second embark, because I didn't prepare properly the first time around.  :o

There's something strange about this build graphically, I think it's messing with my AMD card (next card is definitely going to be an Nvidia). If I resize windows the game crashes, if I start full-screen, the game crashes. When I'm trying to embark, and press 'e' the game crashes. Lots of crashes when saving during worldgen too.

edit: also resizing windows during play causes crashes :(

Mehhh, I'd rather that pressure come from supply chains or food. I just don't like it when games force combat on you because it forces you to take actions you normally wouldn't thus taking some agency(like hostile red NPCs making up 90% of your NPC encounters in fallout 4). I want to focus on making my place look nice damnit, I don't have time to be killing every wolf and goblin that wanders into town.

This game is actually pretty good right now, but I'm not really feeling it at the moment because it feels too cartoony/arcadey. Mainly every day you get a chance of getting a new citizen based on your score for the day. If you do shitty, no citizens and since they don't breed, your population stagnates. Your days aren't really free, you're bound to do better than you did the day before or else your population will be too small to stand up to the monsters that increase day by day.

Didn't they completely remove the combat system and turn it into identical left-click spam again?

It's clicky, but not a click-fest. Every weapon has a different attack combo with a slight cooldown, so you can't just mash you have to be aware of where your weapon will hit and where the enemy will be. It's a bit more strategic than how combat used to work...

It's kinda weird that Starbound v1.0 feels real similar to the early alpha builds of Starbound, the one with temperature, comfort and hunger mechanics. Only now the combat system is a LOT better, and your attacks actually have a bit of weight to them. The whole tech progression system got a bit a revamp which is something I like too, hello inventors bench!

It's 2016 and I'm still playing 34.11. This mod is just THAT awesome.

« on: May 16, 2016, 02:08:03 am »
There's a mod on the forums that adds a new Storyteller that's centered around farming/base building. It'll still eventually send baddies your way, but gradually enough that you don't feel rushed to focus on defense everything else be damned. My main beef with the default game right now is that it's not really RimWorld so much as RimTowerDefence

Ugh, I'm done with the game for now (even though I've played 44 hours). What sent me over the edge was FINALLY finishing the steps for the Cybrex quest which took me soooo many hours, only for it to bug out after I found a certain system. Same with the secret galactic invasion event, game bugs out so you can't bombard their planets to get rid of the infestation, making any territory they take invincible... Which is totally game breaking if you're playing ironman because the only workaround is console commands. WTF Paradox? Why is the end-game so ridiculously buggy when you had years to work on this game.

I'm playing an Ironman game and discovered that the AI is pretty buggy when it comes to huge empires that are mostly sectored. AI only bothered to try and conquer my core worlds, so I just waited 20 years (!!!) and used far off planets that I got from integrating observed pre-ftl species to build navy after navy which I then lost to the invaders. Eventually I could white peace because the war went on for too long. They invaded twice before I just switched from monarchy to democracy and they quit invading. Stopped playing now, because I have over 800 pops and the game is just too damn slow.

TLDR; use sectors liberally and sprawl is good!
