DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Goblin Prisoners
« on: April 01, 2012, 09:18:31 pm »
I created a zoo for interested citizens. I mean, how often do dwarves get to see a goblin or troll up close and not get stabbed/killed/maimed? It's a great educational experience, and the children seem to love it.

Derp. I forgot to turn off the burrow. The peasants would pick up the tools but weren't interested in leaving.

How silly of me. ><

Yep. They refused to use their pickaxes, so afterwards I tried to set them to cut wood but they refused to use the axes. I think it has to do with the fact that they're multigrasping the tools, which seems to indicate that they're too small to use them.

The peasants arrived at my fortress as children, so is it possible they didn't grow and are too small to use weapons properly?

DF Gameplay Questions / Peasants not working
« on: March 31, 2012, 11:56:17 pm »
So I've been running this fortress for about 5 years, and there's now a generation of children growing up into peasants. Thing is, they can't seem to do any work I assign them, specifically, mining. I trapped some of them in a tunnel deep underground and I was planning on making them explore the caverns, but they can't mine. They'll grab the mining pick, but unlike my other miners who hold it with one hand, the three peasants multigrasp their pick.

They do the same thing with the axe I gave them as well, and they won't even build with stone that's near them. I thought maybe it was the tools, but there are two other migrants I trapped with them and they build/mine/chop like I tell them to.

What gives? Are all my peasants doomed to hollow lives of hauling?

DF Suggestions / Re: Bloodline naming

I really wish there were inheritable names in DF. It'd make it easier to track families in Fortress Mode, and give fortresses a more personal feel.

The name system should expanded though, because with only two names families would quickly become huge. Perhaps give each dwarf three or more names with maybe the extra names being hidden or something or only viewable through the relations screen.  A general given name, and multiple bloodline names? Maybe go the scottish route and have important dwarven clans, with each clan having different septs (sort of like mini-clans inside bigger clans).

Also, arranged marriages should be added. Then we could finally start breeding dwarves!

Maybe I've been playing too much Crusader Kings II. >_>

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Captain of Guard

I give my guard weapons and armor. They may damage or kill innocent dwarves, but they're also pretty good at hunting down berserk dwarves before they can do much damage.
