I though there was no natural magma pressure?

About these magma smelters: is it normal that the room they're in fills with magma from below as soon as I reclaim the fortress?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Df2014 necromancers

That's right, undead aren't those fragile things whose only strength is in numbers anymore. The armor and weapons are just a bonus, they are deadly without them, too.
On the other hand, they can't be resurrected unlimitedly anymore, so I at least there is a chance that they stay dead after re-killing them.

Ok, so I guess my best action would be to avoid sites of civilisations I like for now, and just lurk around goblin settlements while I watch them killing each other.

I just don't get it. Is there any way to figure out why someone is attacking me? To find out about their allegiance? To find out why this dozens of warriors ambush me, have a friendly talk with me about their important mission and then starting to beat me up in a non-lethal way? Everything is very confusing. I have no idea who belongs to whom, i.e. who I can attack without getting marked as a murderer instead of being celebrated as a hero that has vanquished a dangerous criminal?
I like the changes to the game (minus the outstanding bugs and crashes), but it confuses the hell out of me. Bandits are friendly. Town guard are trying to kill me.
Is there a way I can ask someone why he is beating me up? Or maybe why those other two guys are fighting right now? Or maybe why there is a dead goblin in the middle of the room I just entered, everyone is terrified and two guards are injured? Or why those apparently friendly-to-dwarves goblins flee from me, while the trader of my own civilisation begins to spit at me? How can I find out what motivates them do do these things?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Build tents
« on: July 11, 2014, 06:55:41 pm »
So camps in the wilderness now have tents made of cloth. Is it possible to build cloth walls in fortress mode? I think it would give a nice touch to some noble's apartment, as well as a building material for above-ground forts.

I'd like to claim Handleddances. I like engravers.

I have yet to find a dwarven fortress that does not erupt in no quarter combat once I talk to someone. Hillocks are fine, but fortresses are large self-destruction mechanisms.
If you think of it, it's basically the same with player-controlled fortresses.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Undead siege does nothing?
« on: July 10, 2014, 07:57:21 am »
I just got sieged by undead in my new fort. But instead of crawling into the fort, they just stand at the corner of the map. There is a hostile alive goblin marksman, who runs around between the undead and does not get attacked. Did this happen to anyone else? Is it supposed to be that way?
Edit: one mystery solved: The marksgoblin was apparently from the same group as the undead. It seems undead do not attack every living being anymore. (Makes me kind of wonder why undead in towers attack their necromancers. Maybe the groups are messed up)

This was in df2012, but it has probably not changed.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Dwarf Civilization reborn mode

Having their civilisation destroyed apparently makes dwarves somewhat touchy. Most of the artwork they create is about bronze collossi, dragons and goblins destroying their sites.
Edit: not to forget necromancers and laughing elves.
Anything else is a depiction of the giraffe god.

I'm curious: If the civilisation is dead, there is no royalty. Will there eventually be a new queen/king, if the only site of the civilisation is my fortress?
Edit: I did not see this. So apparently yes, there will be royalty.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Can adventurers clean blood?

I wonder how they got there... Anyways, I'm glad to see that an adventurer like you sees after the people and the palast after the untimely demise of the previous ruler.
About the question: As far as I know, you can't. If it doesn't work with the 'I', the 'u' or the 'x' menu, it is probably not possible (yet).

So... it seems the goblin inhabitants of the fortress are not members of the dwarven civilisation, but of a goblin civilisation (I have no idea why they live in a dwarven fortress, though). When I enter the fortress, they run away, screaming something about a fight. That makes the other dwarves attack me. If I manage to recruit some soldiers from the fortress, the immediately begin slaughtering the goblins and the dwarves that defend the goblins. Interestingly, when I kill someone who attacks one of the newly recruited dwarfs, my companion spits at me and calls me a murderer. I also can ask someone to be my Hearthperson (what does that even mean? I'm not a native speaker, and I can't find this word in any dictionaries), and if I'm lucky, they will accept, only to attack me three rounds after that (three rounds in which I did nothing).
This is madness!
Anyways, apparently I'm the lord now, even though everybody has lots of fun beating the crap out of each other.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Fortress inhabitants always hostile
« on: July 08, 2014, 05:08:38 pm »
Is it normal that fortress inhabitants are always hostile to me? Usually, when I arrive at a dwarven fortress, a bunch of civilian dwarfs and goblins run away in terror (even if I show no weapons), while military inhabitants attack me. In addition to that, dwarven and goblin inhabitants are not hostile to visiting goblins from a goblin civilization. In one case, I had a talk with the mayor (everyone was peaceful there), went into another room, where I was greeted with flying crossbow bolts. When I fled to the mayor's room, the mayor suddenly turned hostile to me.
