Well, I'm going to update with what's here. If at all possible, i ask you spoiler your character pages with every post- it would help if you'd go ahead and fix your inventory for I'll have to do that during a mid-update.  which is bad.

---

Narmor puts on the hobo hat on top of his hat.

Narmor feels more protected somehow, before not thinking anything useful.

The hat he is now wearing was a blessed hat of critical guard, with the side effect that the wearer believes himself to be a hobo. At least Narmor isn't a crazy, kill-everyone hobo.

"I've never had a place of my own, but the road is home enough~"

Narmor begins to sing.

Meanwhile, Abses and Julius check out the train. There's a small area of the room with a door on the other end, and inside the train is a single shining object. It isn't metal, and it has a picture of a potato on it.

Sigmund and Thaum fiddle around with the scroll and the ring. Eventually, they wind up placing the ring on the scroll of identification, which causes the scroll's ink to shift and change. It now read "1 Ring of Air Breathing."

((Sigmund, go ahead and change blade to scythe, stats are the same))

If the derailment was the war llama training, that was because we didn't have any other non-pet animals, so...

Yeah. Get them defenses a running is our main concern. Possibly make a heavily defended single wagon entrance.

Examine the arrows to determine the exact location they point. Lick them if nothing else works.

See if you can contact Dodok and the others, if possible, break out. If not, wait until the last minute then report it. Sucks to do it, but if something goes wrong...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Efficient Design 101- BATTLESTATIONS!
« on: September 18, 2012, 10:18:51 pm »
I wanted to discuss how to effectively keep your important dwarves where they should be outside of using burrows to cut down on the amount of time they spend doing useless stuff. A non-worker dwarf, i.e. a minitary dwarf, noble, vampire lever worker, should stay in one place.

The Military:
Crossbow regiments should have their training room, food/sleeping areas, fortifications to fire from, and any other needed structures located centrally near the entrance. A good design is the "horseshoe", where the front of the fort is a sealable 3x3 hall, and 3x1 fortifications are next to that. The fortifications are to fire from, and the room behind the fortifications is generally an eating area, then stairs to the training room, then finally rooms and beds off of that. Given that haulers bring supplies to them and they don't have hauling enabled (most of the time anyway) they should generally laze about within the confines of the horseshoe. Come an invasion, arrows will rain down from the entrance.

Close Range Regiments should be focused on a single outer hallway that leads to your fort and exits a bit away from the main entrance. This should also be a 3-tile wide hallway, and a trade depot should be built between the military and fort side entrance. From there, it's just barracks, sleeping quarters, food area, and stockpile.

---

Nobles should have self-containing offices. For the Sheriff, i had my jails divided into blocks. The fortress's main hallway connected to the jail hall, which had the warden's office, everything he needed, and three cell blocks containing 6 cells each. None of them were lavish, but a 3x4 room with all the needed supplies were given, along with a bed, table, and chair.

---

Vampires should just be sealed away indefinitely within the important lever room. Keep them happy and you can always be prepared.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

I gotta remember to grab more than a single mace for my military, or stop embarking near giant grey langurs, grey langur men, and anything else grey langur related. They just don't gtfo, and no one can get a drink.

So the entire military died, there was no food because monkeys stole it all, and tantrum spirals ended my fort.

Oh, and the clothier who wanted metal bars. Fuck that, you were my second mood.

My first will eventually be claimed in an adventure mode hopefully, that kaolinite mug with tetrahedrite and kaolinite spikes and giant parakeet bone images must be worth something.

The attacks were misunderstandings, and we at least tried to be peaceful before we got tied up... though the cat thing may have been a bit overboard. We didn't know what went down anyway. Still see if you can communicate and make friends with one of the guards- possibly tell tales of your adventures as a trader.

"Thomas, heads up. There's a change of plans."
"What?"
"You're fighting twice today."
"But--"
"Oh, hello there, Nikoli. Good job with that dire wolf."
Thomas spun around and saw Nikoli, who had killed a dire wolf the previous evening.
"I'll have you know, without that surprise attack and a bit of a wolf-cold, you would have been lucky to get out of there with one arm and all other limbs intact. But, let's hear your challenge."
The barbarian scowled...

I'll let Tsuchigumo550 make Nikoli's reply if he let's me make Thomas's.

Deal.

"There are many obstacles on the road to success. I have nothing personal against you, and I'd like you to know that I hope we can have... as friendly of a competition as possible under the circumstances. I'm going to fight, but I'm not going for outright slaughter. I don't have to kill, or even mortally wound you, and I hope you won't do so to me. I'm out for power, friend. Lots of it. I need to show the people my capability. Yes, I got lucky with the wolf. I'm on to bigger things if I like it or not- and your name was the only one I could remember honestly.

I shouldn't say it, but good luck. I don't know which of us will need it, and it gets my blood boiling to think of the fight.

Plead with the ones that can hear you to release you- You're a trader, and you have connections. There's no reason to bring an army, even if a trader could amass one this place is a death camp- bringing supplies as a "thank you" is better, right?

Oh, don't forget to ask what it was that you did wrong. No one's felt kind enough to explain that one.

(( Ahh but it is useful for another of our little party? Like a member who is not human and can survive in environments that would kill a human? ))

Nope. If you were thinking Thaum, he dosen't even need to breathe. Although a construct that could wear the ring might identify it... It's a ring of breathing something and nothing in your party, inventory (aside form the scroll- have the owner of the ring read it, could work) or location can identify it.

(( Interesting lol what am i meant to do swallow it and it'll let me breathe under water :P.
Have to hold onto the scroll until later then. ))

Nope, it's not waterbreathing. If you put it on and jump you're going to drown. It's not useful at all to YOU, and not for reasons that the enviroment it allows you to breathe is unlivable. It's just useless.
