DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: On the non-metal armours...

Civilians in inactive squads will wear armor and only get the initial bad thoght of the draft. They also sometimes go to a barrack and train their combat skills. A huge number of dabbling marksdwarves can break a siege.

Ambushers are more likely to retreat than siegers.

Leather clothing always rot. Leather armor doesn't rot.

Toady needs to work on worldgen battles. I remember one battle between elves and dwarves where the dwarves had twice the number of troops. Both sides had lost an even amount of troops and only about 20-30 elves were alive but the dwaves lost that war for some reason.

I totaly agree that worldgen is amazing and one of my future hopes is that toady takes some time and improves legend mode.

As long it doesn't happen too often I am ok with that.

One thing that I like about DF is that Urist McLegendaryInEveryCombatSkill has a small chance to be killed by any creature. Just like in real life. If a peasant gets lucky and kills a dragon then random happenings like that only make histories only more interesting.

All wrestlers can rip equipment off from their enemies.I had a ettin kill a bunch of masons building a wall using pants ripped from the first victim.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Really struggling, basic questions
« on: March 14, 2013, 05:22:49 pm »
You can teach your companions to swim. All it takes is a small murky pool and some patience.
1)Enter the pool and press period until your companion enters.
2)Exit the pool and press period until your companion exits.
3)Repeat until your companion stops floundering or drowns.
4)Go kill some carp with your swimming companions.

When I play adventure mode I usually try to create a band of bad ass adventures and spend a lot of time babysitting my companions, killing wildlife and use DFhack a lot to find the strongest soldiers and have them well equipped.

Soundsence achievements are a great idea but it needs more work like achievements for caveins, syndromes and other things I can't think of.

May I get lost as well?

They can become historical figures, skill gain should be possible, but their attributes are locked.
Awesome I nicknamed him mort.

Dwarves who have killed other dwarves won't attack dwarves who have killed other dwarves. So if you isolate your starting seven have them kill a member of their civ and then let them meet each other they will not fight among themselves.
I once created a loyalty cascade hoping to get the best dwarf for my hermit challenge but ended with 43 enemies to my civ.
You can read about it here. Renegade Fortress

I just got my first necro-adventurer, animated a necromancers head, took it with me and the little guy is awesome!
Do corpses gain skills and kills becoming a historical figure?

Why are danger rooms an exploit?  You put dwarves in a room where they constantly have to dodge/deflect blows with armor, and they get better at dodging and moving around in armor.  Seems very much in the spirit of both DF's skill-based advancement system and Rocky-style training montages.
Have you used danger rooms? Where is the fun in getting a squad of legendary soliders in just a season.
