Roll To Dodge / super graveyard violence
« on: October 25, 2019, 04:58:41 pm »
Somewhere, in a spooky, yet arena-shaped location, ghoulish monsters, murderers, beings of the night, etc gather to bash each other's skulls/skull-analogue-organs. Yes sir/madam, it's truly a senseless slaughter, an utterly illogical B-RTD and searching for deeper meaning would be a waste of time.

(A short-running, nonserious halloween PvP game. Looking to update once a day.)

ADV. LIGHT SENSORS Online

The first perception you experience as you Soul boots for the first time is that of stale fluid surrounding you, and beyond that a weak sphere of material. You strike the material with your forelegs and tear it open, and the fluid immediately begins to flow out. You shove your head through the opening and crawl out of the egg.
You find yourself standing on the underside of a leaf, your feet digging easily into the soft metal making up the plant.

Feeling hungry, you scan your surroundings for any other creatures. Not picking up anything other than more vegetation like the leaf you're clinging to.
WING ENCLOSURE-a Online
You unfold the rotors from your first wing enclosure and shake off the dew. It's time to hunt.

Roll To Dodge / Broken Vessel
« on: February 24, 2019, 08:32:46 pm »
This is a world of order. Of peace.
Every part working as intended, a well-greased machine thumming away the eons.
Except when some vile force of darkness comes along and mucks it up.
Of course, the machine has its own smaller machines to fix the mess, so it generally works out in the end.

Well long story short when something too vile for humans to combat arises, the people turn to their designated heroes, the Vessels. Who are pretty much just sacrificial lambs for you, the minor angels, who do all the actual work.

You twist through the terrifyingly full emptiness for eons, staring into the full blackened absurdity of this existence. You blink and sake your head, slowly recalling the events of the past few seconds. You died. It was... well, it was painful. Now all you feel is a pounding migraine.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / ALBEOM: contains demons [SG?!]
« on: December 12, 2018, 10:27:33 pm »
Hmm?

You are startled from your rest when you suddenly fall backwards, through a suddenly widening linkage. Panic grips you as you fall backwards, away from the world and into the... other one.
It's-

o̷͏̲̬͎̯͓͙͉͙̟̀h̶́͟͏͕̻̰̟̗̣̣̯̘̤͎̗̤̰̘ͅ ̵͇̺̺̺̗̭̪̪͎̘͙͖͎̯̝̬̕͢f҉̗͉͕͕̭̼͖̝̮̻̮̣̰͓̗͠ͅu̴̧̲͍͖̺̺͇̟͈̮̙̤ͅc̸͜҉̩̗̦̞͕̙̦̟͔̫͍ḱ̡̺̣̫͠

Abruptly you realize that you don't remember what you are. Or what just happened, really. It's like you were resting one moment, and here the next. You're not sure what "here" is either, but you can smell some other objects. They smell like you.

And you can see...

The Alpha

ALPHA is an object, a creature... a... human?
Hmm. A Human is an organism comprised of physical... no, made of many individual... muscle and bone, pumping blood, nervous electrical system... thought? A soul, with fears and hopes and boundless neurosis.
Apparently.

This specimen is fairly tall for its age, and thin. Its hair is dark, nearly blackened. Grey, but not from the outside. Balding, but again not from the outside. You look into its eyes, which dart around the room.
The room. Mostly filled with heavy machines and cables, which you cannot discern the purpose of. Clean and reflective, but not too much. Less clean; an inert human lays on the floor, rendered inoperative by a wound which pierced its eye and brain. Blood seeps from the wound and spreads across the tiled floor.
It would seem that this killing blow was struck by ALPHA, as it holds a short wooden spike in its hand. The other hand firmly grips a third human by the neck, this one is operative... alive.

ALPHA stares at the alive human. A few moments later, ALPHA releases its grip and stumbles back a few steps. ALPHA makes some sounds from its mouth.
"I am not in control.  Run, please."

The other human stays still for a moment, processing? Then it produces a sound as well.
"FUCK! Cole, stay right here!"
It moves slightly clumsily to the hallway door, opens it, and moves down the hall, out of sight. The door remains open.

From where ALPHA is standing, you can see parts of the two rooms farther up and down the hall. They appear to be the same as this room, without the machinery.

Spoiler: ALPHA (click to show/hide)

The Beta

BETA is in a superficially similar position to ALPHA, though darker and less... tidy. A cubicle comprised of thin prefab walls, with a curtain acting as entranceway to the "hallway". There's no ceiling to the room. Much of the room is filled with machinery, which presumably has a similar role to the machinery in ALPHA's room. Despite being more primitive.
BETA is also a human, around the same age as ALPHA. It seems fairly fit, and calm. Its greenish grey eyes observe the room carefully for a moment before moving on.
"Now what do I do about you?"

The object of BETA's focus is a dead human body crumpled on the floor, apparently killed by blunt force from the wrench on the floor, which is covered in a spattering of human blood and other human components. Beta apprehensively kneels over the corpse and searches its clothing.

"A bit forward of me, I know, but I'm sure you won't mind if I took a look."

Spoiler: BETA (click to show/hide)

The Omega

The OMEGA seems a little different. A younger human, wiry, its hair cut short and its eyes amber. It sits crouched within yet another machine, but not the same sort of machine. Clearly a weapon of war. It sits in the morning sun, on a bed of glittering emerald sand.

Within the machine, along with OMEGA, is another three human corpses. These ones appear to have been killed by a blade to the neck in their sleep.

Presently, OMEGA seems to be pressing some buttons inside the machine. In response several lights inside the machine change to a more red color, and there's some beeping. Somewhere above OMEGA's head, electrical coils start charging.

Spoiler: OMEGA (click to show/hide)

((It's a perfectly normal Suggestion Game probably.

There are three player characters; ALPHA, BETA, and OMEGA. You can communicate with any of them by putting [ALPHA], [BETA], or [OMEGA] in your post.
Bolded text will be interpreted as a command, any other text will just be a suggestion or comment.
Any text in ((double parentheses)) cannot be heard by the characters and can be safely used to communicate with each other.
It would be appreciated if you picked a unique text color for your demon so that it has an identifiable voice. If you don't pick one, I'll pick one for you.

There are other ways in which you can interact with the world, but you are not yet strong enough to utilize those methods.))

Forum Games and Roleplaying / death plane: [not a turn]
« on: August 26, 2018, 10:35:22 pm »
((Came up with this just today. A god game where you are far from immortal, let alone omnipotent. I'll try to update it once per day. Maximum five players.))

Join my discord. If you want. You don't have to.

Floating through the void with nothing to sustain you, slowly asphyxiating on less-than vacuum. Yes, you are a God, but entropy can kill even you. Perhaps your own world was destroyed by some cataclysm. Perhaps your pantheon cast you out, sentencing you to cold death for some crime. Or maybe you were just born out here, in the void. Regardless, by chance you spot, far away, the light and warmth of a universe, and so you claw your way forwards, to the only hope of survival you might find.

When you arrive, you can't help but be disappointed. This is not one universe, it's a binary system. Both worlds are dead, and the frozen corpses of gods float nearby. The upper plane is almost entirely dark, and whispers to you. The lower plane is a blinding white, however it's not the pure white source that some gods draw on. It tries to appear pure, but you can spot the cracks.
In the space between, there is a differential. The void strands out, forming basic capillaries that slowly and imperceptibly draw white into black, and black into white. Someday, these planes will both be planes of gray, and this universe will truly die. But not this day. This is the beating heart, now you must build the body. Or else you will waste away.
Other gods arrive, too. Just as emaciated as yourself. Hopefully they will be allies and not enemies.

Current locations:

Intersphere void: The void directly between the Positive plane and the Negative plane. Empty except for some god corpses, and the flow of white to black and vice-versa. Gods in this location passively absorb 5 Essence per turn.

Positive corona: The area directly outside the Positive plane. It is bright and unsuitable for life. Gods in this location passively absorb 8 Essence per turn.

Positive plane: ???

Negative corona: The area directly outside the Negative plane. It is dark and ominous. Life could bloom here, but it would be defined by dark. Gods in this location passively absorb 7 Essence per turn.

Negative plane: ???

Outer void: The vast void that forms a solid barrier between universes. There is absolutely nothing here.

Uses of Essence:
This has led to some confusion so I'm redoing it.

Roll To Dodge / Power & Pulse "On-Ship"
« on: April 18, 2018, 10:35:08 pm »
If you're confused, go look at the main thread.
This thread exists for the purpose of fulfilling the desires of players who are not fortunate enough to be on a mission. Here your character can do things hopefully entertaining, but that won't interfere with the, uh very tactical goings-on of the main game.

So here's how it works: post a bolded action along with your character sheet and someone will provide a "turn" for you. This can be anyone, provided they are not doing their own action. The results of an action may be determined by whatever method you deem fit, such as dice, whim, tarot cards... whatever.
The exception would be intentionally giving an action a bad result out of malice or an attempt to get ahead. Or anything I deem blatantly lore-breaking.

Mages can have trances that happen to work exactly like virtual reality. Convenient, huh?

Recommended activities:
Hunting
Fishing
A game called "PUNCH KAIJU" (Punch a bunch of giant monsters in the face in this "simplified model" of mech piloting!)
A game called "Footslogger 8000" (Exceptionally realistic! Many small details are modeled! Incredibly boring!)
Generalized "what would happen if..." simulator
Weapon design!

Roll To Dodge / Power & Pulse: A good day to plan victory
« on: April 14, 2018, 04:27:00 pm »

Game in which mages fight mechs. 6 players in all, 3 on each side. (To start with, anyway.)
Mages are people with magic shit in their blood that lets them do magic.
Mechs are machines driven by normal not-magical humans but they've got magic all up in the technology so it works out. Also they're from space.
They fight each other over something something blood.
Important part: eat the heart of your enemy to gain his strength.

(If you want real lore go read the first thread.)

Actual mechanics:
If the thing you're doing isn't hard, you can do that thing. Good job.
If the thing you're doing is hard, roll 1d6:
1: bad.
2: still bad.
3: almost good.
4: pretty good
5: good.
6: good, then bad.

Also, if you're good at doing the hard thing, or conditions are just right, you get to roll again. Congratulations!
And if you're bad at doing the hard thing, you also roll again but not in a good way.

And there's other stuff but honestly don't worry about it? I won't.

Spoiler: character sheeeeeeet (click to show/hide)

Once you've done the character sheet for being a human choose either the mage power sheet or a mech frame sheet, fill that out, and pin it to the bottom of your human sheet. Thanks.

I've gone ahead and created a discord for discussion, questions, faffing, derailment etc. https://discord.gg/3pKq47t

Hmm. So people are telling me that it would probably make things more fun if you'll abstained from reading character sheets from the other side. I'm not about to enforce that or anything, but maybe yeah go for that?

Also, just FYI this isn't first-come-first served, I'll wait a bit and pick my three favorite sheets for each side. You can post multiple sheets if you want to hedge your bets.

There can be no more than six players of this game at a time or I will lose my mind.
The setting of this game is a realm that does not contain anything physical or permanent.
The setting of this game is a single location, containing all the players and any other notable objects. The contents of this single location may vary depending on who you are.
If you have any questions not covered above, you should check the "Things that may or may not be true" section.

Things that may or may not be true:
Anything not covered above.

Roll To Dodge / Power and Pulse: Crimson Sky
« on: September 29, 2017, 09:53:24 pm »

LORE!

6 centuries ago, your people left their home, which was once called Earth, though now you tend to just refer to it as "Homeworld", because it turns out most of the people in the universe like to call their planet earth. This exodus was accomplished by building a very large spaceship powered by mostly griffon blood.
The reason why they decided to leave, ironically, was because they had nearly run out of griffon blood. These days, your people enjoy a decent surplus of griffon blood, as well as dragon, chimera, minotaur, hydra, and sandworm blood, among other types.

The upshot is this: you live on a great big space ship with a jump drive powered by the blood of exotic and dangerous magical creatures, or more accurately the Arcane Substance found within that blood. Each jump brings you to a new world, and new Arcane Beasts to hunt, for more Arcane, for more jumps. Also at each new world is a new strain of Humanity, as unlike the expectations of your ancient forebears, this universe is full of humans, and somewhat conspicuously absent any other intelligent alien species.
These people are invariably either too primitive to make good use of Arcane, or have destroyed their own civilization at some point in the past, and are in no condition to travel the stars themselves. It's unsurprising, then, that many of these people join your little nomad civilization, indeed, it's likely that you're a descendant of some tribals, rather than purely the humans of "homeworld". Perhaps you were even a tribal yourself before signing up to travel the stars aboard the Rose's Relief.
It should be noted that this ship is not the only one that left Homeworld. There have even been a few newer ships launched by Homeworlders from other planets. However, due to the rare and limited nature of Arcane, each ship travels on its own, and when two meet on the same planet by chance, conflict is likely. Such conflicts are usually resolved by the use of Powered Bipedal Armor, fueled by Arcane. Or, as they are more commonly called, Mechs.

Now then, on to this particular world. Every other system in living memory and on written record follows the same pattern; a few lifeless worlds orbiting a star, and one living world inhabited by plants, animals, humans, and Arcane Beasts. This world, however, is different. Here, there is no sign of any Arcane Beasts on the surface, only numerious human tribes. This is, obviously, very concerning, as a lack of beasts means a lack of arcane, and a lack of arcane means no way to leave this system. Then, a discovery. The humans of this world hold Arcane Substance in their blood. This is even more concerning, because it means you'll have to kill some humans and steal their blood to power your jump drive.

ALTERNATIVELY!

The history of Earth largely revolves around the city of Xeniga. This is the biggest and most advanced city on the whole world. While most of the world lives in villages and mut huts, Xeniga is a bastion of concrete, steel, and glass. Many very valuable things are produced here, such as radio transceivers, handheld computers, and of course, weapons. Naturally, this means that the city is a valuable target for invasion by whatever tribes don't own it, and it's changed hands many, many times.
In such conflicts, the biggest assets are people like you; mages. While it's known that all people have the spark of Mana within them, the Mages are those with a greater command of the magical force at their disposal, allowing them to perform various great feats like... like killing a bunch of people. And fighting other mages. Let's be honest, if you have this kind of power, you're gonna use it for violence or get violenced yourself.
And so with blade, bow, machinegun and cudgel you fight for Xaniga, or at least for its current owners. Despite the fact that Xaniga changes hands so often, life within the city will usually stay fairly stable, and this is where most mages learn their art. Many of them are more attached to the city itself, and will fight wars for whoever happens to own it at the time. The tribes can't argue much with this sort of flip-flopping, because at least they know WHEN you'll switch sides, and arguing with a mage usually doesn't end well for anyone.

Rumors have been filtering in recently of a large metal object which fell from the sky. Some people have said that metal men and metal man-shaped-ish things are running around nearby. You've gone to the nearest village, Danei, to investigate.

What? I don't understand!

Okay, here's the version of that without all the fancy words: Magic space people in mech suits fell from the stars and want to suck all the blood out of the magic not-space mage people. This is so that they can power up their jump drive and leave this system for a place with hopefully better hunting options. Yes, one of those types of people came from space, but they're both humans. The same species, if you ever care to make that relevant (please don't). This, is broad terms, means that those two teams of people need to murder each other and suck the magic juices out to become more powerful.

You get to be either a mech dude/lady or a mage dude/lady. This means that you get to murder other, real-life players and eat their magic juices. Exciting!

Fill out one of the character sheets below. You're probably more likely to get in if you join the side with fewer players. I probably want about six players, but more or less is fine.
Rolls are your regular 1d6, like your normal RTD. Results of actions may depend on the circumstance, so even with a 5 you can't punch through a solid metal wall with your bare hands. Unless you're the class which actually can do that, hmm.
If I deem success or failure especially likely (such as if you have an attribute relevant to the action), I may roll two dice and take the higher/lower/whichever is funnier.
I reserve the right to cheat at rolls as much as I like if I think it'll make for a funner game.

DF Suggestions / "Tell outgoing squad to not start any new wars" button
« on: September 08, 2017, 09:41:57 pm »
Quote
I set a lone dwarf to travel over to a dragon cave to recover a cotton chausse. The treasure had belonged to the humans, a favorite piece of clothing and now holy relic of their first nature priest, but the dragon had taken it almost a century earlier. So, hey, why not bring it to the fortress? Maybe give it back to the humans to improve relations, or failing a visit from them, keep it in a little museum in a display case for the dwarves to admire. Uzol, my questing dwarf, managed to sneak by the dragon, but found no chausse. So he decided to go barhopping to the east to see if he could pick up any signs -- that's all I was testing, the barhopping code. I didn't expect him to actually find a rumor, but he did. Apparently, a mercenary had gotten to the dragon cave two seasons earlier, and brought the chausse back to the human temple, to its rightful place.

Uzol had orders, though, and he followed them to the letter. He broke into the temple and brought me back the relic... now I guess I have a save if I want to test being invaded by angry humans.

Given the above quoted devlog, I think it would be a good idea if you could tell the dwarf squad you're sending off to retrieve an artifact to not start wars. Basically this means that if they find out that they would have to attack a civilized site which you didn't explicitly send them out to attack, they would instead return home and give a report. This could be a toggle you can select when you pick which site to attack.

Roll To Dodge / Welcome to the Perplexiplex: Splitting storylines
« on: April 10, 2017, 11:09:30 pm »
Long ago, the world was stable. But then, chaos; technological singularity rocked the world, tearing down governments, social structures, even the almighty corporations. When humanity held ultimate power in its hand, only the small groups, communes, families could survive. But in the process of surviving, they found it necessary to change; becoming more than human, less than human, something to the side of human. The details vary, but in the end, every group became something that those who came before would not qualify as successors.
Well, not all of them. These people, these base humans who surround you have remained, through fear, the same. Living deep in these caves, far from the eternally changing surface, with its neural viruses and tempting pheromones. Here, in what the locals simply call home, life goes on, as it has for millions of years, and how it undoubtedly will for millions to come.
It makes you sick.
Once you were like them. "Better poor and safe than powerful and inhuman." But now you and a few friends think you can find a better way. Not far to the east from home is a sprawling mega-structure, extending far above your heads, into the cavern's ceiling and beyond, and, you assume, downwards into the depths of the planet. Nobody could have built this... could they? It seems infinite, yet it does not swallow up the world in its intricacies, rather simply inviting, waiting for a few brave souls (like you) to enter and pry out the secrets. It is, simply, Perplexing.

((I have never done a suggestion game before. Let's jump on this hotdog train and ride it all the way to eurotown.))

You are Psychic. A psychokineticist. A Psion. A Psyker. Too many words for one thing. You are Psychic. Plenty of people harness the power of the universe; lexical wizards and petty mages. But you wield something far more deadly than that: the mind. You are Psychic.

What exactly that entails, is for you to find out.

You jolt awake, but are sure that you're still dreaming. In front of you is thick glass, and beyond that darkness and metal. The glass slides out of the way and you step into the hall.
You slowly begin to take stock or your surroundings. You would appear to be in a dark hall of cold, white metal, extending at least 30 meters in both directions. Scratch that, dimly lit. The fluorescent lights lining the ceiling are certainly functioning as intended, though that intention seems to be for twilight at the moment. You suppose it is so as to not disturb the sleepers.

Turning around, you see that the contraption that you emerged from would appear to be a cryostasis pod. Or- Not a cryostasis pod, but a science fiction representation of one; curved and gleaming metal, and a single glass pane between the sleeper and the rest of the world. This does not look like the work of an engineer, more like a cheap prop.

In digressing on the design of this device you have missed a good opportunity to also digress on the fact that the hall is lined with many such devices, many of them occupied by human figures. You barely have any chance at all to elaborate of this topic before deciding that really, these tubes are uninteresting and besides probably nonfunctional anyway.

You are in a dim hallway. Ahead of you there's a light coming from a door in the side of the hallway. Behind you is nothing particularly interesting.

Roll To Dodge / Ocean Corp. Systems Test (Murder Arena RTD)
« on: March 12, 2016, 02:57:48 am »
What is this?
This is a simulated reality, commonly known as a "Roll to Dodge", in which several participants perform tasks to their hearts desires. Though it is the intent to cause these "Players" to joyfully murder each other, that is not the sole possible outcome.

Where am I?
You are currently in a space between spaces between spaces, en route to be inserted into an area that dynamically encompasses several scenes from real, unreal, and transreal existences.

What is the purpose of this exercise?
We here at Ocean Corp. commonly design and produce various strange and unusual items to sell to physical beings, such as yourself. However, we find it difficult to test these designs ourselves, and as such must recruit such beings in order to prove the viability of our product in practice. In addition, we worry that small imperfections in the fabric of meta-reality may cause larger problems for the pan-multiverse down the line, so these tests have also been optimised to diagnose such imperfections and hopefully find a solution.

Why was I selected for this exercise?
We rolled some dice.
