DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: A *lead* anvil!?
« on: November 17, 2007, 03:33:00 pm »
I ended up with an aluminum anvil...
Surely, easy to move around, but i'm positive that the blacksmith that arrived during the next migration was rather offended by the thing...

Well I didn't know that the mountain was so stacked, and with platinum sitting 3 feet from the starting point, you shouldn't have trouble bying one from the dwarven caravan either.

Edit:
And beware of misclickings as well, I currently have a magma forge with an aluminum anvil... it's easy to move around, but i believe that the blacksmith is offended by the thing.

Nah, i didn't use reveal.exe at all, so there's still a chance for some nasty surprises, but so far it's been all fun and games =)

Though we all know how long that usually lasts in dwarf fortress...

I left out the anvil and all the axes, but there's enough wood to last a couple of years easily, also a bunch of meat and mead and a whole bunch of wardogs to keep you covered in case something comes out of the magma vent, or one of the mountain goats decides to become angry.

here's the save: http://rapidshare.com/files/69899868/region2.rar.html

I found a rather splendid starting location, climate's warm, animals calm, plenty of trees, there's a magma vent, a river and most of the bloody hill seems to be made of magnetite (read: iron) and dolomite (read: limestone), i've also found a vein of gold, several pockets of native aluminum and native platinum, i've yet to dig deep, so i don't know if there's adamantite, but that would only be icing on the cake at this point   :D

I don't have the map location nor the seed of the world, but i do have a starting save if anyone's interested.

I have a mason who made himself "Winterpainted the mighty focus, a jet bed" and wields it as an axe... so far the dwarf has single handedly killed 2 packs of wolves and 3 herds of deer with it.
I always get all giddly when i think about a dwarf chasing wolves while wielding this enormous bed of rock.   :D

DF Bug Reports / Re: Full system freeze on exit.

Well, I disabled the automatic underclocking of the processor from bios and updated my catalyst drivers to 7.10 (had 7.08), and it stopped... my five cents are on the processor underclocking somehow fucked everything up on program exit.

DF Bug Reports / Full system freeze on exit.

I can reproduce this as many times as required.
Whenever i cause a world flood -> abandon fortress -> exit game (full screen), the system completely locks up. the mouse moves for a while and i see the desktop but i can't click on anything, shortly afterwards the mouse also freezes up and the keyboard doesn't respond either...
I'm quite honestly baffled, i've seen this twice elsewhere, but i've been unable to reproduce it on anything else other than dwarf fortress.

system specs:
intel q6600 @ 2.4ghz
asus commando motherboard
2x1gb kingston 800mhz ram
asus eah 2900 xt 512mb
and a whole bunch of hdds.

additional info that I can think of: sounds are disabled, i'm using 'vanilla' dwarf fortress, so no added tilesets or anything. I haven't overclocked anything. System temps are cpu (31C), motherboard (39C), gpu(59C), which are normal for this comp.

Any info on what actually causes the freeze would be greatly appreciated.
