Yet he correctly spotted that Vanessa was willing to loan him a token, so he might actually be pretty good at reading people. It's that he doesn't necessarily tell people what he read about them, just some convenient lies (say, to lower their defenses around him next time). That, or, deep down, under the steel shell of "inhumanity" Xan has a large, soft, sympathetic heart.

((... I knew all this "rawr I'm a monster" charade was just a ploy! Oh, sweet, innocent inner Xan!.. ))

With easy interstellar and supereasy intercontinental travel, you'd probably just get one big genetic group covering a wider area, so to speak, rather than several distinct ones. At least on the planetwide level. But with situations like the M23 one, then you'd get a helluva lot of that stuff. And with the size of the ER-verse, there'd be almost every kinda human genetic combination possible, before you knida got away from homo sapiens.
I thought that the ER-verse was sort of like WH40K: Humanity colonized as many planets as it could, something bad happened(Chaos/the Altered), and the ensuing chaos isolated most planets, then after a few thousand years the government (The Imperium/UWM) came through, fought off the (Chaos/Altered) and reunited the planets, but at the cost of establishing an oppressive government.
Yeah, that nails it, I think (don't forget to off-handedly mention lost and never rediscovered colonies :P). Also, it should be noted that early colonies were often governmental ventures (not pan-governmental or whatever passes for "unified planet reign") or maybe even those of specific organisations/corporations/etc.; thus, it is not that uncommon for there to be quite narrower genetic and cultural heritage on some colonies than otherwise (and then those colonies became "inner circle" ones, pumping out yet more colony ships, so that trend continued, in a fashion).

Thus, I think on some colonies there still are imported "nationalities" and religions of the Earth, while on others a more even genetic and cultural mix can be observed, giving rise to their own new and distinct cultural and genetic groups.

Set Mad Hatter to strobing kaleidoscope of random distortion levels.

Initiate evasive manoeuvres. Fly-tackle the white-flame-clad figure. Fire up my determination and willpower; "scream" at the top of my brain.

Mine!

"And... then you started to fly up somehow without rockets, up towards big black pyramid inside white fire which was coming down towards us. I flew after you, tried to bring you back down and Morul zoomed past us to the pyramid."

Boiling white rage arose, engulfing Maurice's mind as he understood what that meant.

Foolish interloper! Profane savage! Opportunistic brigand!
... I need to calm. There would be time for anger later. He might have been trying to... save me.
- And he succeeded, didn't he?..

The experience of fighting the murderous urges brought on by the Dissector Knife came unexpectedly handy here, as Dr. Sanctor gradually regained his cool.

Act first. Judge and analyse later.

Troops, the figure in the center is likely your comrade Morul Migrurkeshin, possessed by an alien entity that first tried possessing me. He is the most strong-willed trooper on the team save for Pancaek and me, so it is very likely that he is still alive somewhere in there. Furthermore, physics as we know them appear to be of secondary effect in here; the whole place appears to be governed by some strange psychic laws and entities living in that world rather than reality known to us; think of them as ghosts or spirits possessing those bodies, if you wish. Shooting the bodies would inconvenience them at most, and probably even less, now that their illusions and spiritual activity is rampant.

Konrad, remotely reduce Bartolomew's suit temperature to suitably cold levels to keep his brain fresh.
Hasala, you're next in line for Team I and overall command. If I'm down again and now for good... Prove Snapdragon was a fluke. Make General Miyamoto proud.

Burst my way out from the rubble. Use any means necessary (but not immediately disastrous; avoid those) such as: use exoskeleton strength; put the weight on the good leg and use it to assist lifting (i.e. not just with arms strength); enable Enhanced Movements Mode (rocket-assisted strength and dexterity); use main thrusters lift; remove the software limiters/overclock the exoskeleton; administer adrenaline micro-injections to facilitate a surge in organic strength.

Send "knock unconscious" shock signals to both Morul and Pancaek, for good measure. Not that they are likely to get through.

Welp.

Well, you were warned. And now I expect you to enjoy it all at least a little, in my stead. :)

Coming back to his senses was strange but faintly familiar to Maurice. This is how you wake up from nightmares; this is how you wake from sweetest and happiest dreams, only to be greeted by the harsh reality.

Now.
... Oh no.

This waking was far too familiar and mundane for there to be doubts. He failed. Grief, anger, and detailed analysis of how it happened would have to wait, however - there was this mission at hand.

Bartolomew down, freshly. Morul... offline, just like Pancaek. Damnation. Ulrich and Hasala are fine, though, as are Team II members.
Mad Hatter - ...oh, bloody Mistress.

This is Commander Sanctor, all teams, hold your fire!

Ulrich, Hasala, report on the last... several minutes, starting with right after we reached the center. Stat.

Huh, I wasn't out too long.
And I knew there was something at the center of the dome!

Did I die again?
(( You are also buried under the rubble, alive with minor injuries. I checked with Piecewise.

Action coming slightly later.))

What's the point of the player market if you're going to sell what's on it at the same price as the Armory? It's just not economically feasible.

Let's put it this way: if there is no economical reason why one is better than another, from a purely logical standpoint it's 50-50 toss. However, humans (as well as various post-humans :P) are quite irrational, so that might swing the decision one way or another. Regardless, eventually your stuff should be bought; and chances for that increase if you use the irrational side of the equation to your advantage.

Such as, if everyone is your friend, asking your friends to buy from you rather than the Armory because well, those are perfectly fine items and you are such good friends!  :D

Well, mostly I assumed that you could sell the slightly used but repaired equipment at full price, with a little good will from fellow players (say, throwing good relations into the deal as way, a single small favor, or something like that). Basically, if the Armory item sells for X, and there is the same item in effectively fine condition for sale at the same X on the market, player goodwill might work either way. That way you could earn full 3 tokens from both  MCP-II and MWA, for example. (Finding a buyer for Mk-II at higher than 3 tokens might be very problematic, on the other hand, so maybe that one I'd try selling to the Armory). As I said, might take time, but could reasonably probably yield you more.

As for hoverboard and stun baton you might want specifying that they've never been on a mission too. To my knowledge, if it goes on a mission but never get used (e.g. the person was stasis-zombie throughout its course, and essentially did not exist in physical-space, for all intents and purposes), it still drops to half-price, so Piecewise might theoretically misunderstand and offer half-price. Just sayin'.

Anyway, good luck with turning those things back into tokens! :)

I was thinking... All the effects in mission 21 are effects of perception. Which means that whatever is causing this might be using your perception. Therefore, you need something that combats perception. What is best at disturbing perception? Booze and drugs. Therefore, you must do lots of booze and drugs and/or force feed them to the statues. My logic is undeniable.

Anybody got any xeno-spit?

Don't forget to crank up Mad Hatter above 100%. Actually, tripping under xeno-spit influence, I wouldn't rule out understanding what that mishmash of colors and shapes and things means...  :P

ADD: Harry, wouldn't you want to put the items on the market instead? I am reasonably sure you could get more than 7 tokens that way.

I feel like Haber Implant was strongly influenced by certain repeated requests, so probably yeah.

Personally, I like Mccune-Hahn Procedure most, because artificial gland implants are always cool. Hopefully the idea could be expanded to Fictional and/or Fantastic levels. Who knows, maybe somewhere down the line fleshknitter-producing gland could be created. (Totally researching that if... well, if.)

M23 seems kinda rudderless, but I haven't been keeping close tabs on it.

I blame myself. I've been 'busy'. I need to catch back up this week and attempt to provide some more direction and input XD

I also blame sleep and crushing existentialism. It seems like the thing to do.

Hello back, Kri! I've been waiting to ask: Do you think latest M21 development would qualify as Incident, or not? :)
(Maybe not yet, but when it finally blossoms.)

I would love to see a magnetic implant in ER
Heard about that. Seen video of people implanting them themselves too. which is kinda nuts.

Well, I can understand the desire to be able to 'feel' magnetic fields, but at the current tech level it's more on the freaky side than cool, I'm afraid (such as the gradual loss of strength of the magnet unless replaced completely, and other uncomfortable tricks). I'd think that wearing a small ring with a magnet of that size would do just as well (except maybe for finer sensations because not jammed directly into the nerves), but would be cheaper, easier to remagnetise, and plainly more comfortable in the long run.

On genemods/body modifications/etc.: I think the best approach would be to start realistic, but give overhead for possible scientific advancement - so no direct space-magick (as not all your game settings have it), but if the advanced materials or sufficient miniaturisation of implants are available, for example, the upgrade could seamlessly evolve to utilize those. It might require a little bit more effort, but scalable system like that should prove both very useful and system-agnostic. (And then, genemods at the higher end might be adopted to ER as well ;) ).

And finally - glad to hear about your return! How were (are) the exams?
