Yeah, it's kinda funny, when the title of the game is "Dwarf Fortress" - and a Fortress is a construction meant to defend from sieges - one would expect that sieges would be the most important element of the game.
But no, sieges have seen practically no development over all these years and are still just "spawn some trolls and goblins on the edge of the map" and what we get instead are fleshed out mummies and realistic simulation of kicking out teeth.

Whoa dude, I'm tempted to make a "hug" emotigob just to express my gratitude

Now maybe you'll be able to help me run it... :P I've installed xampp and updated my JAVA.

I'm getting this error (sorry if the words don't match, I have to translate it from Polish ):
Script ...\main.js
Line 6
character 1
error: missing definition 'document'
Code 800A1391
Source: MIcrosoft JScript- runtime error

is php on by default in xampp?

Or maybe a better question : what should I be using to run the .js file?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Skeletons (remains)

My outside refuse stockpile (which is for rotting remains) is full of skeletons :/
Is there a way in which I could designate them to be stored inside? I don't see a category separate from "corpses".

Unless there's a way to chop those skeletons into bones? My dwarves say they need a butcherable animal if I order a dead animal butchered. And yet my stockpile has items like Stray Boar Skeleton or Stray Reindeer Lower Body.

Magistrate, so you don't use crossbowdorves?

You could say that it's supported, but I'm not even looking at the code.

Peter, YOU could write an AAA game without looking at the code, so that's not saying much. ;)

I sense that somebody will be making an ASCII graphics pack to turn it into DF; first thing. :P

I would, but I won't be buying the game :P

Roses: not really, 16x16px graphics packs are currently the most popular, but the tiles can have any dimensions. So I imagine that would have to be an option.

Hermano did a _somewhat_ similar job with his raw tile selector.

I like updates where new stuff is added just as much as ones where stuff is fixed.   You can't have both at a prolonged and rapid pace.

As a gamist, I'd say that I'm much more interested in having more problems fixed rather than having new features (a.k.a. problems) added.
But I'm not sure how this looks from Toady's perspective. It is certainly much more interesting to be adding new features than squashing bugs, making a proper interface and so on. But in the specific case of Dwarf Fortress, I wonder if it doesn't actually make more sense to program all the features first and fix problems/interfaces later.

I don't really mind the clothes problems as much as these:
-my dwarves spend days in the armour stockpile, switching equipment in a constant loop
-my archers don't grab new bolts, even when no station/kill order is active (although there should be a way to make them grab new bolts even when there are active orders!)
-both enemies and my dwarves will sometimes completely ignore unconscious enemies. If issued an order to kill them, they'll just stand next to the target.

overall, the military part of the game is THE WORST ugghhhh

Hey thanks, Rooster! That looks like it might do the trick.
Seeing as how I know jack all about Ruby though...

I changed the query to \[(VERMIN_|CREATURE:)([^\]]*)\] because your query skipped the vermin tags.
Gonna try some mass editing to change the results into a graphics set file.

Okay, let's try something simpler :P

Do any of you guys know how to scan the raws and then quickly mass edit them, so that only the [CREATURE: ] and [VERMIN: ] tags remain? (and absolutely nothing else, just those two tags, no comments).

Not surviving is fun. Barely surviving is really fun. Any more success than that is boring.

This is a  very good opinion to have.
As for SoR... well, I tried the demo and could do little more than dig and slaughter pigs. A simplified, 2D DF might, of course be fun.
And the sprites are beautiful :P

I love the art and humour but... the pacing is TERRIBLE :/
