Sound is a major element that is missing from dwarf fortress, however producing actual sound effects is way too much effort to go through at this stage of development.

There are so many free sounds on the internet though...

2) With graphics on, the tileset sprite for dwarf is used only when dwarf dies, right? Then why there is not generic dead dwarf but generic dwarf in generic state?
Because it's also used in adventure mode (when a dwarf is out of your line of sight).

You mean a ramp that doesn't go up anywhere?

I made the 0 level slightly transparent to show everything. Dwarves can move from that hillock to level 0 even though jumping isn't implemented. Better yet, if that was a 3x1 ramp+hole (instead of 1x1), wagons could traverse it with ease. Magic? No, confusing ramp design.

I'm interested in how you all see the races, even if it' subjective and not backed up by any in-game facts.

Others don't like the idea of having to find a way to defend every single tile, which may or may not be what we're looking at in the future.

I certainly hope that if tunneling enemies were to be implemented, they would be sufficiently toned down and balanced in order to avoid such a situation.

Elves consider all life sacred, so cutting down trees is like murder to them. This is especially valid since they have the ability of expansion (buildings and tools) without cutting down trees.
They would share this ability with the other races BUT, seeing as they are all filthy murderers, the other races can't be trusted with that ability- they would probably just exploit it for their own needs instead of living in harmony with nature (which is probably right). That is why they bring wood (obtained in the harmless way, they probably ask trees to produce some logs?) to other races (GAME NOTE: THEY BRING FAR TOO LITTLE OF IT).
So I agree that the elves are not guided by a feeling of superiority, it's just their morals to protect all life.

Not really, no. As shown in the example of most 3d visualizers, the ramps can be parsed to determine which direction they are actually facing. My problem is that many of those natural ramps are UNnatural and confusing, especially seeing as wagons can go along them.
BTW, when placing a ramp, the direction it should face could easily be automatically determined in almost all cases, so it doesn't make things more complicated for the player, Untelligent.

Nice in concept but I dont know why you people are so frightened by enemy tunneling.
I think it's because they like to stay in control. I imagine some people just don't want to have tunnels NOT generated by them on the map. Tough luck though, because with the upcoming Underground Diversity, those tunnels are gonna be there anyway, the only difference is that they will appear BEFORE embarking, not after.
