DF General Discussion / Re: Guess the release! (game)
« on: October 02, 2007, 12:46:00 am »
I'm hoping it's not October 10th because that's the day Half-life 2 Episode 2 and Portal come out, and if Dwarf Fortress were to update the same day there would be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Even if you dig to the bottom of the world where there's outer darkness.

Yes, the only problem is having enough legendary miners to dig out your 1000x1000x29 room before the next version arrives. XD

"gave threadable stones economic status" <-- from the dev log. Apparently we will no longer have this problem. Unless of course you WANT an adamantine trade depot. You'll have the dwarven caravan giving everything they own to you just for a chance to rub their beards all over it.

Final Fantasy is fun.

Also, DF is fun and Halo isn't.</STRONG>

To me, Final Fantasy is fun as long as you play the single-digits. I loved each and every one of 1-9, but I've only played about two hours' worth of X despite it sitting right next to my PS2 in the living room, and I stopped playing a one-month demo of FFXI that a friend gave me, barely two weeks into it. Because I wasn't having fun. If I want to play a Final Fantasy, I'll stick with the classic ones and remakes thereof (eg. Final Fantasy VI Advance or Final Fantasy III DS).

The latter-day Final Fantasies are definitely overhyped. The classic ones were underhyped to the point where three of them weren't even released in North America until they had to use different consoles for said re-release.

Heck, there still isn't an actual NA-released version of the ORIGINAL FF3. The DS remake (in 3D!) changes a lot of the dialogue.

For me, Halo 3 isn't even on the radar. The question is: Dwarf Fortress 3D, Half-life 2 Episode 2, or Portal? :3

Sooooo... make the site a little bigger? Come on, what's more important to you, a slightly higher FPS rate, or having the land you need to build a proper fortress?

How about "I'm going to gut you like a Cornish game hen."

The major advantage a flanged mace has is that, with lots of weight and ways to hook on something, it can rip away armor plates, exposing a foe in plate armor to the effects of other, sharper weapons.

"Religious people now give you very general advice about how to live your life."

I can imagine a priest of a deity of Happiness and Slaughter: "Puppies and rainbows! Go forth and kill with a smile! Maim with glee! For the glory of our Bright Red Sunny Dread Lord Ngathseshagak!"

Cortizone is a kind of chemical. (And "adrenaline" is spelled "adrenaline.") You're probably thinking of "cc's" or "cubic centimeters," a measure of volume equivalent to the milliliter, commonly used in medicinal jargon. (a.k.a. cubic centimetre and millilitre depending on your country of origin.)

I may not have any Strong attribute and only have regular Agile, but I do have the Furniture Hauling labor on, and I can negotiate with the liason to get a caravan bringing +pepperoni pizza+.  ;) I like the ones that menace with spikes of sausage, and some places will even encircle the crust with bands of cow cheese.

Whoa, I'm close to those locations. Around 40th and 7th.

I've been to the Science Center numerous times, played with the screw pump and watched 6-year-olds swarm the tic-tac-toe machine. I used to live in Bremerton a few times. (Once for junior high/high school, once briefly while job-hunting because the rent was cheaper than here in Seattle.)

And there's definitely more than one of us who live around here and are interested in Dwarf Fortress. It's a bit late for a Z-axis release party, but maybe we could try to organize something for the next huge release, whenever that is.

..."Uristcon?"
