DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Dwarven... "Child Care"
« on: September 13, 2012, 11:18:40 am »
Just lock all the children of the fort in a nice swimming pool, with beds and a quantum food stockpile. when they reach twelve they will
be legendary in all social skills and swiming.

Locking childs in half flooded pit with food is very, very efective. They won't do nothing exceot swim and talk. when they reach
twelve they will be legendary +5 in all social skills and super-strong.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: how do i keep my dwarves equiped with gear

Its better if you keep your dwarfs always active and training. Just make sure that they got enough bling to make them happy.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Demons as followers
« on: September 11, 2012, 07:25:21 pm »
I once had a demon mummy as a follower. It was basically invencible, with fire breath and made of pitchblende.

After a while, i got sick of him because he overshadowed me and stole all the kills, so i decided to kill the thing.

I descended to hell and started a fight. After a while he dodged into a glowing pit.

DF Suggestions / Re: EXP, Anti-Legendary.
« on: September 11, 2012, 03:02:59 pm »
I think that dwarfs should have labor preferences, exactly as they have item preferences. That will give them greater exp gains and a higher
level cap in their desired jobs, as well as reduced exp gains in jobs they don't like.

If you want to use them as training dummies, there is an even better way:

1: Hide the Stockpile.

2: Go to the stocks menu and order all hidden weapons to be dumped.

3: De-hide

DF Modding / Inheritance
« on: September 11, 2012, 05:47:35 am »
So i get a bit pissed when the queen died and her perfecly fine nice did't get the job, so i though of a little tweak.

If you change the entity raws to make the monarch succesion to be [by_position:Prince] instead of [by_heir], and then you make
a new noble post (Prince), appointed by the monarch, this should allow you to chose the kings heir.
(Note: I am completely new at modding)

Any thoughts on this?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Saving the Mayor.
« on: September 11, 2012, 05:35:03 am »
First, a bit of a story.

Some years ago, my current fort was in hard times. But that i mean that it was in the middle of a famine an a tantrum spiral.
In a reanimating biome.
It was more or less like this:
Urist Mcmother cancells living: Starving.
Urist Mcmother corpse reanimates
Uris Mcmother corpse eats Urist Mcbaby.
Urist Mcfather goes berserk.
Etc

But alas, with the help of four legendary champion, the zombie horde was defeated, dumped in magma, and only slabs remain to remember those dark times.

Well, and the Mayor.

The mayor lost all his family, as well as both arms in the incident. Somewhow he did't slapped, maybe because he was already a bit
psychopathic.
(He has very low empathy, very high social awareness and social skills, andvery low altruism. Also, he doesn't care about anything anymore)

five years passed since then. The fort is rich and beautful, and everybody is happy, except the mayor.
He spend those years doing nothing but hanging around in the dining hall. Although he has high social skill, he never make a single friend.

And now is in a nearly insane state, because all his clothes rot away and he cannot put new ones.

LOL.

Apparently, the loss of his clothes iss worse that seeing his mother devoured by zombies. Not even lovely waterfalls and aluminum statues
are enough to appease him.

Well, here is the challenge. I am trying to prevent him to go mad. He has royal everything, nice food and drink, and th waterfall, and even so
is miserable for not having pants. Any ideas of what more i can do?

Note that invaders(even mere thiefs) and moods are not enabled until you get at least 21 dwarfs. You will need to reach that, then recede.

The best bet would be put the cap to 21, wait until that, then eliminate everybody except one family.

821
The default pop cap is set at 200 in the init file. (data/init d_init.txt). You can change here if you want (note that the cap begins to work
after you reach it,meaning that if you have 199 dwarfs you can get a migrant wave of 50)
This afects migrants. births have their own, separate cap (you can put a limit in childs and in child/adult percentage).

About the maximun dors you can have, well, as much as the computer can handle. You can put the cap to 1000 if you want.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: dwarves will want to go to jail

Build a well with it and use some masterfully crafted and encrusted bucket and mechanism. The value gain is completely insane (and might kill you due to getting bigger sieges ^^)

Actually, i already have an artifact mechanism worth 200k in my well. Then  again, i think i will deconstrut it and build a new one
with the chain, hte mechanism and  the emerald encrusted aluminum bucket.

(Fun fact: Well have a quality multiplirer, based in the mason and the architect skill, with a max of 24. So i can make a 25 million well)

Sieges are not a problem right now. They just get killed by the zombie horde outside (400 now).
The zombies themselves are imposible to get rid off, but i have grown accostummed to them. When migrants or merchants arrive, i just send  the champions outside to distract them.

I was doing some house cleaning and I do have a volcano on the map which I use as a nice garbage disposal.  I selected a few thousand body parts and misc stuff to get toss to burn up and clean things up.  In doing so something strange happened next to the volcano, a lava burst or something kicked up and 3 of the dwarfs standing/dumping there were melted/burned to death.

If you toss heavy stuff in magma, it sprays magma mist. You need to make a several z-levels hole to make magma dumping safe.

I just got this:
Manthultenshed

This is an adamantine chain. All crafdwarfship is of the highest quality. Is decorated with nether-cap and encricled with bands of adamantine.
This object is adorned with hanging rings of native gold and menaces with spikes of native gold. n the item is an image of a gem in native
gold. On the item is an image of a titan in tunnel-tube.

834000 Urists.

I still don't know what i will do with it.
