Its 2 AM and I return to the upper boards for the first time in forever and this is the first threat I visit. Bay12 still has it. Never change :)

<Got any ideas for stopping it?>
"Yeah, nothing fancy. Let's split up into two groups. I'll use the trebuchet, hopefully if we destroy the tower it will stop all this dark magic. You should go the other way and build up your fire. They will be forced to surface to catch up to us, we blast them when they do."

Assuming Irene doesn't find flaws in this plan:

Lead half the recruits (Include Lune and the crossbow operators obviously).
Run towards the trebuchet, tsar it, fire at the tower!

<Its split into three parts, not sure what its next plan is.>
Spread my flames and grow them. luckily I still have a significant amount and their growth is exponential - more fire makes it easier to make even more fire. But this is about the lowest I want to let myself get unless it's an emergency. Its fine to make way more fire than I can comfortably control, I'll just let it burn naturally in the environment to be collected later as necessary.
"It's trying to waste as much of our damn time as possible!"

Quickly assess situation.
My armour is very good against smoke and fire, but how are the recruits doing?
The ground around the shield-platform probably isn't walkable, since it's all superheated and melty. Unless Irene left an escape route? Can probably cool it down with ice bolts if I have to. Fire + Ice = normal ground. Or steam explosion, or deep mud, who knows.

How far is the trebuchet? If I can get a shot off and destroy the tower, that could potentially end whatever magic is animating the branch monster thing. In this case the farther away the trebuchet is the better since it will take more time for the groots to catch up.

Comm Theri and Zech's team. How are they doing, and are they far enough away to safely trebuchet the tower?
Comm Ike's airfield team. How are they doing, and can we expect any air support soon?

Just hunker down for a few seconds while assessing the factors. Maybe a miniturn?

((For eating big things I'm pretty sure https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelican_eel would be the best animal. Might come with serious downsides though.

Edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_swallower might be even better.))

((Steve Irwin has a really cool power. Do his mutations reset with each new form or do they accumulate and stack? Either way he's sure to get more powerful on longer missions as he accumulates more mutations or collects more specimens. What happens if he eats a non-human player character, does he gain their powers? The only one I can think of who is small enough to eat whole is Irene.))

((Damn you Square Cube Law!!!))

Of course, you can just tell physics to go [expletive] itself. If I can create a character who can call forth dolls out of thin air without requiring their equivalent in matter, then you can create your bug Aussie too!
((It's not really a question of physics but of game balance. Eating an ant then gettin +4 strength would just be OP. If anything eating an ant should mostly give fun esoteric bonuses like walking on walls, poison bite, burrowing ability, pheremone sense. Maybe extra limbs, or you shrink but retain your normal strength.

Any animals with flight would be good options. I'm surprised at how few flying characters this game has.))

Undepleted Uranium Rounds
Uranium would make an excellent armour piercing round. It's about 70% denser than lead, and has amazing kinetic penetrating properties.

"Uranium is favored for the penetrator because it is self-sharpening and flammable. On impact with a hard target, such as an armored vehicle, the nose of the rod fractures in such a way that it remains sharp. The impact and subsequent release of heat energy causes it to ignite. When a DU penetrator reaches the interior of an armored vehicle, it catches fire, often igniting ammunition and fuel, killing the crew and possibly causing the vehicle to explode."

Let's make a uranium penetrator round for everything. From 9mm pistol to 300mm Overcompensator. Probably the most relevant for our 15mm Horsekiller II, 20mm and 30mm autocannons, 75mm and 100mm tank cannons.

Ignore the mysterious illness and tumours. Only the weak get that Vlanladosian illness. You're not weak, are you?

296
It absolutely needs a bayonet lug.

So we can drive the motorcycle into someone and stab them. While also wielding a Horsekiller bayonet lance preferably.

297
Hmm. Can the recoiless rifle use our rocket assisted artillery rounds for extra range? I don't see why not.

298
Since all we're in an "counting chickens before they hatch" mood, here's a revision.  Our infantry still don't have an AT weapon.  To hold the mountains outside our capital, lighter vehicles are going to be key.  (See how our Sarukh rocket artillery has evolved role-wise into a pack artillery mountain gun.)  If we hold the desert but lose the mountains, street fighting in our capital is going to choke heavier vehicles as well.

The Canners put out a modern ATGM system, but it hasn't been getting much love because it's too immobile hunt and then evade targets.

So...

UF-RPGM-46 Ribeye Recoiless Rifle Motorcycle Sidecar

The classic AS-M17A motorcycle sidecar has been stripped of its MG and passenger.  It its place, a 1 meter long recoiless rifle launcher and two additional rocket reloads for roughly the same weight.  The launcher can be both fired and reloaded from the motorcycle seat with some leaning and reaching.  The Ribeye AT rocket is a 155mm diameter projectile with a 6 kg HEAT warhead.  The Ribeye is designed to ambush modern MBT's, namely the M4A1 Bull, from any aspect for a first shot kill.  The launcher includes a Eagle Sight style 4x optical scope.

It's unconventional, but dirt cheap, tank destroyer that can be fielded in any terrain as well as being air dropped by Trustfall parachutes.
You sir have my vote.

Maybe we should upgrade the motorcycle a bit. It's from 1917. Even though it's a good bike with a perfect engine by 1917 standards.

It could have a simple trigger attached to the motorcycles handlebar, electrically linked to the RR. That way no awkward leaning would be required to fire it.

Maybe it should be usable separately from the motorcycle, on a tripod. Because motorcycles are difficult to aim. That is how the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vespa_150_TAP was meant to be used, with the scooter only as transportation not firing platform.

299
Survivability against the Bull's cannon is the main reason our Bjorn is good. Remove it's armour and its absolute shit. We already have an okay cheap tank, we don't need another okay cheap tank. Because a bjorn with shitty armour isn't much better than an AS-T33. Because Bjorn is a very very flawed for a light tank.

Maybe if we want a cheaper armoured fighting vehicle we can make a a tank destroyer/assault gun based on the Bjorn but without a rotating turret.
