He's just doing his job. His job is to stop strange things from the caverns entering the fort. Mugging and kidnapping him isn't right.
Trying to convince him we are merchants would probably be the best solution. It's not even lying!

Btw, could we try looking for that dwarf who taught us runesmithing?

There was a cave full of goblins in my back yard and they kidnapped my family. I went to the wizard and asked him to help me kill the goblins, so he gave me about 20 extra fingers. I went back to my house, stormed the goblin cave, found the goblin king. I fumbled a while with my many fingers until I found the middle one, then I stuck it up at him and shouted F*** YOU!!!!!. Then all the goblins died and I woke up.

NOOOOO don't kill the lizard friends! Anyways, go to the fort, buy lots of food, drink, armour, and a badass war chariot. Then go to the abandoned fort and look for runes.

There are already a few succession worlds (mostly for adventure mode), but in 2013 they should be able to last indefinitely. And be way more lively.
