Also, make sure you have placed the cages through the building menu. b - j (I think, I don't have DF running right now.)
Cages don't have to be built - trainers will still train animals in cages outside training zones. The zones are used to free up cages, and to reinforce training for trained animals.

What you need to do is assign a trainer - use the Animals tab in the z-screen to assign trainers to wild animals. Training will then commence.

there's nothing in the stairwell... and it only leads to a dead end, it was built (after a reveal all) to show where the water was...

yet they run down it... I can't figure out how to seal it off, burrows don't work, because people cancel jobs outside their burrow...
I don't quite get the idea. Screenshots perhaps?

Morningstars apparently have [EDGED] attack, so candy would make them pretty strong.

+1. This sounds like a reasonable idea.

Make it work off the Melt Object tag, and you have my +1. I end up with so many worthless crossbows when trying to train a bowyer.

Is there a reason to train a bowyer?
Quality of crossbows affect their accuracy. Artifact ones are the most accurate, followed by masterpieces, and so on and so forth.

Do all falling creatures generate combat reports? I'm trying to figure out why pitted goblin prisoners don't have more "The goblin slams into an obstacle and blows apart!" logs.

If I insert the orders manually, they bring the wafers to the forges, then take them away and the order vanishes.
That suggests that something is missing. Check the announcements page? It usually tells you why something goes wrong/doesn't happen/happens the wrong way.

Pretty much. Just make sure you don't accidentally kill the vampire with the trap.. after all, you want his blood to get into the reservoir system so that the other dwarves drink it :D

I also locked all 200 of my Dwarves in a room with him... How long until I have a complete vampire fort so that when I come around in Adv Mode it ill be !FUN!
Vampire bites don't spread vampirism. Only dwarves drinking water contaminated with vampire blood can become vampires.

I have built 10-20 Craftsdwarf's workshop in order to process raw adamantine quickly. However, when I add the task to extract metal strands, the manager assigns the task to only 2 or 3 workshops, so that I have to assign the tasks manually. Is this a bug? could it be because my manager lacks of some traits skills? The wiki does not say how traits relate to the managing efficiency

Managers can only assign a max of 30 jobs at once, so what they'd probably do is spam 3 shops full of extract strand jobs rather than space it out over all your workshops.

Question, with pressure pads, is it possible to have a minimum weight requirement? That is, if I burrow children into a room, then make a floodgate that only opens via an adult dwarf exiting, I can have a safe zone for children?
Yes you can do that, make sure it's set to be triggered by citizens.
