This thread makes me wonder if I should even bother keeping maces around.
Weapons/armour research in this thread suggest that war hammers are much better than maces when comparing blunt weapon damage: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=110276.0

As such, I don't keep maces around. I prefer war hammers.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Vampire withdraws from society

If they keep voting him mayor, either they don't know he's a vampire, or they're too compelled by his supernaturally augmented social graces to care.  Let him out.
The social graces are usually what keeps him as mayor, which is usually how you find that most vamps are mayors.

You guys completely ruined movies for me now. Guess which movie this combat log is from.
The Soap Maker cuts the *bomb* with his iron scissors on the green wire and the part sails off in an arc!
The Wrestler is Enraged!
The Wrestler Punches the Soap Maker in the Upper Right Arm, bruising the muscle through the +cotton fiber bathrobe+!
The Wrestler drags the Soap Maker across the concrete, tearing the skin on the lower body!

The Wrestler is posesed , that's why he can't gain any skill in soap making.
Actually, during that entire movie the entire organisation was basically a tantrum spiral.
Funny, I would have thought it was closer to a strange mood involving possession.

The Soap Maker has created Operation FTW, a bank-destroying plan of artifact proportions!

Ichor should give godlike effects when drunk. Effects vary depending based on the creature the ichor was extracted from.

-When making Dig designations near adamantine, floors and walls have flashing numbers on them indicating how many adjacent tiles will breach the circus when mined out, a la minesweeper.
I want that, actually. It would make it so much easier to predict when to release the clowns.

-Prague can arrive at the fort by merchants. Infection works by spores.

I guess that's one way to do a lot of construction in a short time, provided that you like gothic architecture and can deal with the tourists.

That's what I was thinking too. It's a nice place though
And can you fleece the tourists while they're at your fort? :D
Only those that are defined shearable in the raws.
Mmmm. Tourist cloth :D

Got a feather wood crossbow from a strange mood. Will give this to the captain of the guard for the lulz :D

Good choice, thats probably the best weapon for a justice dwarf. :D
Check the item, if there were images on it of a dwarf beating a dwarf it would be pure gold.
Note though, this crossbow is probably the best ranged weapon you'll ever have - material doesnt matter for ranged combat, only quality does.
Beatings should now be fun :D

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Trying to reclaim a fortress.
« on: May 26, 2012, 07:09:35 am »
It's cut into a hillside with a moat and bridge setup and fortifications , but there are creatures inside the fort lying in wait when I reclaim.
Hmmm.. that will make things harder. I haven't had to reclaim under those circumstances so far, but I could suggest that you make an entirely new fort next door, wall your dwarves away from the original (and now overrun fort), and then train up to defeat those goblins.

holy crap. I took your clothing advice and most are calming down, but one went berzerk right next to a dog and a macedwarf. Then he knonks the mace dwarf into a river, and he fucking drowns. The kid, killed a mace dwarf. fortunately, the dog bit him to death. Actually, by reading the combat logs, it appears the macedwarf was still hitting the kid while drowning. It would explain why he drowned on a ramp.
That is crazy. And some would say dwarven too.

I have some experience reclaiming forts, but never have I had to fend off massive goblins sieges while waiting. What does your old fort have in terms of defence (traps?) and workshops (mechanic's workshop?)?

3701
That's a kobold, not a goblin.
Dang. I was going to point that out..

Last I checked, you can cook blood with some luck and micromanaging. Granted, that was when you could cook booze too.
You can still cook booze..

When a serrated steel disc trap of death works beautifully.
