Curses / Re: National LCS Revisited
« on: June 07, 2013, 10:22:48 pm »
Not sure if this bug has already been brought to attention, but if you travel to another city with a squad which cannot use the vehicle to which they are assigned this has no effect on travelling.  The game states that the squad could not use the vehicle and then says they are travelling to the other city.  The squad moves to the other city without trouble.  I'm not sure what should happen since the whole vehicle priority system can get confusing at times.

My great leader: Jesus Powers.  He died by being stabbed through the body with a pitchfork by a Hick.

Curses / Re: Question about CCS safe house takeover
« on: May 24, 2013, 11:21:57 pm »
In investigating this issue I eventually just took out the CCS.  I quite I liked the usual formula for taking over CCS safe houses in that there is a leader to kill which breaks the morale.  It would be nice if safe house surrender were a little less immediate, especially if the CCS is strong, but it is much better than the 'kill ten dudes' way.  I noticed that the aformentioned captured safe house vanished when I toppled the CCS, which probably should not happen.  At least with the crack house it makes sense to revert the site to a neutral building, but I am not sure exactly what would be best for other captured safe houses when CCS falls.

edit:  I was also courting a sleeper for the next CCS safehouse when they toppled (I used the backer list method).  Weeks after the CCS fell this agent gave me crucial information about the Robert E. Lee bunker under duress (I electrocuted and flayed him).  Of course this place no longer exists, though it would be cool if these invisible buildings could have some permanence.

Curses / Question about CCS safe house takeover
« on: May 24, 2013, 01:47:48 pm »
The Conservative Crime Squad had just begun raiding my safe houses, and I allowed one group of liberals to escape instead of killing all of the Conservative scum.  This seems to have been a mistake as I cannot discover the way to reclaim my safe house from the CCS.

I have been sending my most competent raid squad into the safe house to shoot the place up many times, and all this seems to achieve is killing an incredible number of police.  As I was considering the absurdity of going through with spray paint and painting up the place (there is no CCS graffiti anyway), I thought I might ask if there is a feature I am missing in taking back captured safe houses.  I have not noticed any of the official CCS safe houses (Desert Eagle, etc) yet so it is just this one "incredibly strong"-hold.  Am I missing something?

The status of pending trade goods isn't even factored here as far as I can tell. Even when all goods are in the depot, my broker would rather dump things in a garbage pile, store random shit in stockpiles, and basically find anything else possible to do except trade in the damn depot.

6
The most annoying thing to me right now is the fact that trading is a lower priority job than anything else. This really doesn't make any sense given there is a dedicated position for brokerage and having to assign my broker to a 'TRADE NOW MOTHERFUCKER' burrow gets old quickly.

You grab The ringleader by the small troll fur trousers with your left hand!
You struggle for the small troll fur trousers.
You gain possession of the small troll fur trousers.
The spinning small troll fur trousers strikes The ringleader in the head, shattering the skull and tearing the brain through the small care spider silk hood!
Estrur Odesazstrog, Goblin Pikeman has been struck down.

Success! Thanks, New Guy.

Huh. I guess that never occurred to me before. I suppose there would be nothing wrong with holding both my shield and my weapon in the same hand to achieve this level of grasping freedom?

11
Hm. I did not try grasping with my lower arm instead of upper arm. You can't really grasp with your actual hands so I suppose that is what you mean. I had not noticed a difference before. To the testing grounds!

Can you not steal weapons or pull out arrows from enemies anymore? I have tried about 50 times to grab the weapon or whatever and then check all manner of inventory and interaction menus and no longer see the item in any of them. I remember this used to work in 31.x (as grab it, shift+i, find it, etc) but I haven't been able to do it in 34.x.

I hate to quote myself, but I would like to reiterate this question. I remember it being a common thing to grab weapons from enemies or to pull out pierced arrows. However, I cannot figure out how to do this in the latest versions, and I feel pretty dumb. All the methods I read about and have tried experimenting with simply do not show the items. The only time I ever see an item that is stuck in anyone is when it is stuck in me. I want my stealing back!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Automatically expendable
« on: May 21, 2012, 09:03:01 pm »
Any dwarf migrant who does not exceed in skill some existing dedicated dwarf of the same profession and who is not either a mason, miner, or metalworker of some sort gets put into the military or is made into an engraver/hauler. Until I have a soap/lye maker, dedicated medical staff, and farm workers (thresher, weaver, clothesmaker mostly), I dump 'expendables' into those jobs. Anyone who has a more skilled replacement show up gets dumped into the conscript category.

to replace clothing.

So you are forcing your dwarves to succumb to constant, grating, metal-to-... -skin contact?

No, wait, that's your dwarves' fault actually.

Sure. Until chafing is implemented, I don't see the problem.

In all honesty, the only reason I considered doing it in the first place was because all of my military dwarves were getting hit in the x(pig tail fiber robe)x etc.
