Yup, 8pm EST. Most of the balance changes are in, but I didn't get a chance to push the update that changes up mines and adds new equipment for ANFOR. But w/e, after this test it'll probably become votable, so you'll actually see the updates as they come in.

Ah gods bless the ahistory of CK2 an Irish Band of Nahuatl Mercenaries is invading Norse French Portugal, while Jewish Bulgaria is fighting over the Crown of the ERE with Hungary and the Pope claled a crusade against Prussian Reformed Romuva as the Grand Republic of Finland is waging its own religious wars against the Heretics of the Finnish Band situated in Norway and the Mongol Empire. Meanwhile the Fylkir of Sweden is going night insane over trying to reconcile the interests of retaking Normandy from Sunni Castille or invading German Denmark (which is now completely german culturally and has been for about a 100 years)....im not even sure i want to port this abomination to EUIV.

Do it, it'll get even crazier than that. I had the Incans colonize east Africa, and Aztecs + Indian kingdoms fighting over Australia. Korea colonized a bunch of Siberia along with China, who also colonized Alaska and BC along with the Incans and Aztecs, and Norse England was trying to hold off the Nahuatl Irish merchant republic while fighting the Roman Empire over South Africa. At the same time, Norse Scandinavia was fighting a number of Mordvin and Khazarian kingdoms in Eastern Europe, while also trying to push the Aztecs out of Ontario.

By the way.. What nations are tiny and independent in this game?
Tiny as in 1 province. Although I may try a 2 provinces start.

There's the Irish counties. I think in 769, 867 and 1066 there's always a few independent Irish counties. That's a good place to start for new players. In 769, if you want to play as Norse, most of Norway and Sweden are independent 1 or 2 province counties as well. Been a while since I've played 867, but I /think/ it's similar there.

If you do that as a Nomad don't you get all those annoying minor clan risings though? I remember that from when I did a WC as nomads and kept all the land to myself.
You get those if you don't give enough land to your vassal Khans.

It's why you save the Khans till the end.

You won't be able to permanently scour humanity from the earth... but you'll be able to do it for a few months at a time.

Thinking about it, couldn't you take over as a nomad, revoke everything, then settle down? All the new holdings would belong to you and you wouldn't have to worry about minor clans. Then everyone would truly be gone, aside from rebel leaders and event characters.

I have a better one - kill EVERYONE. I wonder how low on important figures can you actually get.

Not as low as you'd think. Unless you keep all titles for yourself, titles will spawn new characters for them. Like if there's an independent duchy, you can kill the rulers forever, but it'll just spawn new characters. So the solution is to keep everything for yourself and kill everyone left.

If you haven't already, get the Old Gods, it's the best one IMO.

Right so... presently working on a pretty successful Muslim Merchant Republic, and I'm considering getting Reaper's Due. Would it be wise to wait until I'm finished with this (started in earliest start, about to close in on the year 1200, no Aztecs or Mongols yet) and then buy it, or add the very real possibility of getting immediately hammered by the Black Death in my current game?

The Black Death was cool, but a little underwhelming. I expected a bunch of cool accompanying events, but all that happens is a ton of characters die, massive attrition for armies, provinces get "depopulated" (less levies + taxes, but it goes away after not too long) and... I think that's it. You hide in your castle until it goes away, and all is well. One time I  had a maxed out hospital in my capital by the time the plague hit, so it didn't even enter my capital province. YMMV, but I found it quite lackluster.

EDIT: This was on 2.6.1, dunno if 2.6.2 added much to it, but going off the patch notes, it doesn't seem like it.

Fuck, the settlement building is the most painful shit to deal with. The first time I played it I assumed it would kind of zoom out from your character, and you could zip around popping things into place without worrying about your physical body. Nope, you have to fucking lumber around in first person trying to hamfistedly line things up properly, while dealing with the shitass menu that was obviously designed for consoles. And tcl doesn't really help, because stuff stops snapping into place properly, and it ends up being way more of a hassle than its worth. If they had just designed a proper settlement building system, just went full Sims, it would have A. felt way less tacked on and B. be way more fun. As is, it's an unintuitive mess that takes hours upon hours to get something half decent done, for no real purpose. I agree with Krevsin in that it should have been integrated more into the actual game and the narrative, but as is it's pretty rough.

The thing is, I was totally open to the implementation of settlement building, and it was one of the features I was genuinely excited for. But they just made it such a pain to deal with, that it wasn't even worth it, and I love spending hours just building shit in games that are designed for it. But FO4 isn't designed for it, and it's worse off for that.

The most I managed to do was build one shitty building, then I just gave up and fucked off into the wasteland before discarding the game altogether not long afterwards. Fallout 4 was the worst game I played last year, and I'm still bothered about it because Fallout 2 and NV are some of my favourite games.

What I want in the last DLC is a revisit to Christendom.

More depth for heresies, more crusade mechanics(why are there no situations like in the first crusade where armies essentially looted the lands before even reaching Constantinople, why is the kingdom of jerusalem always a direct holding of the conqueror/no patchwork crusader states, etc), more ways to interact diplomatically, etc. Just make the Christians, who honestly have few mechanics compared to the other religions, more interesting.

Yeah, you're right. There are a lot of medieval events that could never happen within the confines of the game. What comes to mind for me is the Fourth Crusade, in which a bunch of crusaders showed up at Venice asking for passage to Jerusalem. Venice being Venice agreed, on the condition that they help take over a castle in christian Croatia. They did, and then they went and laid seige to Constantinople to get more money, and installed a new emperor. When he didn't pay them what they wanted, they sacked the city and then split up the Byzantine Empire between themselves and Venice, creating the Latin Empire. Nobody really made it to the Holy Land.

It's a hilarious and interesting event, but it's something that is actually impossible within the existing game mechanics. Crusading armies are tied to individual nations, so there's no way to divert them for your own purposes or to load them onto another nation's ships. Moreover, there's no way of forcing an abdication in another nation outside of installing a claimant sheltered in your own kingdom, and there's no way to create a new entity of any reasonable size out of another Christian entity after going to war with them, because wargoals against Christians are extremely limited unless you've reformed the Roman Empire or requested an invasion from the pope (which would be a stretch in this case, as the pope excommunicated all the Venetians who were part of the Fourth Crusade). I think it's a perfect example of how the game's mechanics limit interesting scenarios like that popping up. This is part of the reason I never play ironman, because you can use the console to create cool scenarios, and subvert some of the silly limitations imposed by the mechanics.

It won't be China. Too late for that and the game may not be able to take it.

Mind, I would very much like China. Just, not happening in CK2. Maybe CK3 or its own game, but not in 2.

Yeah, I don't think it'll happen, and I dunno if the Clausewitz engine could handle it. Still, I'm holding out hope that we're both wrong.

Just like Morrowind, which also had a plot that affected the greater state of the empire and world at large and then just never came up again.  :P

The polities in ES are what the plot needs them to be. Nothing more, nothing less.

Or fucking Daggerfall, in which they made all endings canon because fuck sense.

Monks & Mystics is the second-to-last DLC CK2 will ever get, according to what Paradox said earlier this year, for those who asked.

I'm still holding out for a China DLC, and failing that, a naval battle DLC. It's silly that enemy ships can stop you from crossing straits, but you have no way of removing them. There was a bunch of cool naval battles during the Middle Ages, and it just feels like something that's always been missing, to me at least. I know they said earlier they wouldn't do it, but that was back in 2012, so who knows. I still think China would be great though, and it makes sense financially for Paradox, because it could be accompanied by a portrait pack, a couple unit packs and a couple song packs. Bing bang boom, we get China and Paradox gets multiple streams of income.

Anyone else have any baseless speculation for the final DLC?
