I agree that magic should be as randomly generated and dynamic as possible; predictability isn't really appropriate for dwarf fortress.

There are a few annoying bugs like people have mentioned. But there is one very serious one, in my opinion, that has a fix that I think you should know about. Bug #3190 (http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=3190). Bad thoughts about long patrol duty seems to only go up and not reset after breaks. Having a tantrum spiral in your military is a bad thing.
After a few incidents, I built my military lavish 4x4 bedrooms with gold furniture. It worked spectactularly, and two military dwarves were the only two to survive a nasty tantrum spiral.

In the future, I would reccomend that you use the on-screen keyboard, which is in accessibility options, if that happens.

« on: August 25, 2012, 04:11:11 pm »Necromancers might store Night Creatures in dungeons to study them, legendary Beast Hunters might start a monster ranch or something, but as far as organizations go, I'd just like to see them all get more options in procedural generation. If group entities had more tokens to increase cultural/organizational diversity, some kind of monster containing collective might easily emerge. [CAPTURES_BEASTS], [STUDIES_CAPTIVES], [RESEARCHES_MATERIALS] might give you a group that captures forgotten beasts and collects their poison in glass vials to study their effects on plants and animals. Add [WORSHIPS_BEASTS] and they might put the beasts in holy shrines instead of dungeons.
It'd be nice if FBs and Titans were a bit more anomalous, too. The Titans that send out feelings of joy and peace should make the dwarves and goblins drop all their weapons and hug.
I agree. I would like elves a lot more if they were dedicated to studying and taming creatures, even megabeasts.

Heh, yeah, elemental megabeasts are funny. They can either be incredibly weak, getting cleaved in half by a single dwarf, or nigh-indestructible.
OP, if you want to kill it without risking its ranged attack, I reccomend that you build a ballista or catapult.
Edit: are catapults still viable now that boulders are rare and heavy?

I really do appreciate that you rembered I told you to pull that lever, but I had told you to do so ages ago. Before the siege; it would have greatly helped with the siege if you had just activated it, but fending off all the goblins single-handedly is cool too. The problem is, you waited until I had lifted the alerted to pull that damn lever.
Anyway, you're the only one left alive now. I hope you're happy.

So the sole survivor of my fort just vanished. I have no idea what happened to him, but I'm wondering if it wasn't just an accident the way he dropped that other dwarf into the volcano.

I dumped a bunch of zombies into my volcano, but they won't die, and thus the siege status is stuck on. As if that weren't bad enough, I've also got a bug where messages dissapear almost as soon as they appear.
